in Redirections in Wordpress on Climb to the StarsI think you're right... I'm a bit confused, I remembered seeing somewhere to use 302 instead of 301, which surprised me, but the explanation (now forgotten) seemed solid, so I filed the information away in my memory. When writing this post I've been incapable of laying my hands on my initial source. My research seems to point, as you indicate, to using 301 instead of 302.
Extra information, anybody?

in Just because something is easy to measure doesn’t mean it’s important (Seth Godin) on Climb to the StarsHi Matt -- thanks for your comment. Of course the Twitter metrics case I talk about and the "race to audience" of the specific case Seth/Robert are talking about are not to be put exactly on the same plane. In the Twitter case, I think we very obviously have a fallacy -- a number which does not represent anything in reality. Numbers of readers are real, but underneath there is the same issue: we try to represent "worth" or "value" or "success" or "meaning" with a number, and there is very often a disconnect between that number and what we claim it reflects (just think of things like number of comments or number of readers to reflect how "good" a blog is).
So, this is me saying I agree with your comment. Which doesn't mean we mustn't put into perspective those 45 million views, like Robert and Seth invite us to.

in Ridding Wordpress Plugins of Template Tags on Climb to the StarsRight, this is what I used:
<pre>// bunny stuff for embedding
// place similar posts in different places whether in blog or in feed
function sp_embed_similar_posts($old_content){
if(is_feed()) {
$new_content = $old_content . similar_posts();
}else
{
$new_content = similar_posts() . $old_content;
}
return $new_content;
}
add_action('the_content', 'sp_embed_similar_posts');
// end bunny stuff
</pre>

in Upgrade to WordPress 2.5.2 (I Think) on Climb to the StarsHaha, not surprised. Question: how did you get your avatar to display? I didn't find where to set mine in my profile.

in Ridding Wordpress Plugins of Template Tags on Climb to the StarsSo, I'm having the same problem second time around as I did first time, only I can't remember how I solved it. I want to prevent the "automatic injection" from happening if we're in a feed (because in the feed, I put the related posts at the end).

in About Not Reading on Climb to the StarsGood point. Headline as bait !== headline as summary.

in About Not Reading on Climb to the StarsLouis: doesn't it depend, somewhat, on if you want to get simple points across or argue complex issues? I'm not very interested in boiling down my thinking or ideas to a headline... even if it means I reach less people.
I do agree with you, though (and I haven't yet read your article because I'm rushing off) that headlines are important.

in Against Threaded Conversations on Blogs on Climb to the Starsblacky: one of my points here is that if you provide threaded comments, you encourage conversations to go off on tangents.

in Against Threaded Conversations on Blogs on Climb to the StarsHI Christophe, when I say export my data, I mean export the comments that I wrote -- strictly speaking, the content that I added to the system. Just like del.icio.us allows you to export all your saved links (and comments/tags on them) into a big HTML/XML file. This does not include the tracking data or content created by other people.

in Against Threaded Conversations on Blogs on Climb to the StarsJoaquin: thanks for dropping in. From a purely practical point of view, the main thing besides the ads that is keeping me "cold" for coComment is that there does not seem to be a way for me to export my data, should I decide to stop using the service. This might seem paradoxical, but I'm very hesitant to keep on using a service (with which there are issues) if I know that each time I place data in it it's going to be locked in. So that would be one reasonably small concrete step coComment could take in the direction of its users -- and easy to measure, too.
Some of the other issues are way more complex, like communication and brand image (I don't recognize myself in there anymore), but let's leave that aside for the moment.

in The Neighbour’s Cat Won on Climb to the StarsHi Christian! Honestly, it bled a lot and hurt like hell, so it was pretty obvious to me that this was ER material. If I'd waited, my hand would have swollen up even more (the thumb had doubled in size by the time I saw the doctor about an hour after the bite) and the infection would have spread up the arm. By getting IV antibiotics immediately (and the following days) we avoided that (ultimately, that kind of spreading infection leads to blood poisoning).
The doc told me that the bacteria in cats' mouths that causes this infection is particularly speedy in making things swell up a lot.
When I was a kid, I had a bad cat scratch on my other wrist, and I waited the night before going to the ER. By then there was a red line of infection running up my forearm. Spent 2 weeks with my right hand in a splint because of that. Guess that drilled into me that animal bites/scratches, when deep, are a serious matter.

in More on coComment Advertising on Climb to the StarsMatt, thanks for taking the time to read my comments and respond. I'm not sure where you heard that I was saying you should consult your whole user base before doing anything. That would be stupid.
What I'm referring to is that you're not communicating on what you do. I didn't find a single recent blog post talking about ads in my feed, when I discovered ads in my feed. That doesn't make it sound like you're really happy to discuss things. Because if you blog about it (like you did after my initial post), suddenly it makes it easier for people to tell you what they think.
Of course I understand that you need to generate revenue, and it clearly is a very high priority for you. But honestly, as a long-time faithful user, you're not going about it in a very diplomatic way for me. It's your way of doing things -- fine. Do and listen later. I don't particularly like that, and I'm now at a stage where I've had enough and am looking for alternatives.
Maybe coComment loves me, but I'm not feeling it much these days, I'm afraid.

in Becoming a Professional Networker: Tags in Address Book OSX Needed! on Climb to the StarsHey Firas -- I looked at Highrise, actually, and it's a bit overkill (and hence expensive) for what I want to do. I tend to generally remember people quite well, I just need a trigger for the name <-> face <-> person association and a way to keep track of small bits of info like "get back to this person about sponsorships when we do the next event".
HIghrise would certainly do the job -- it's made for that -- but I'm not sure it's worth the price for me (not yet, in any case, I haven't given up trying to hack Address Book.app!)

in Flickr and Dopplr: the Right Way to Import GMail Contacts on Climb to the StarsBien sûr il y a une différence.

in Please Don’t Be Rude, coComment. I Loved You. on Climb to the StarsKristina: thanks for stopping by. If you don't mind, I'd rather have the conversation on this blog -- why take it into a private space like e-mail or a phone call, where others will not benefit from it? I thought coComment was all about "conversations online"...
I appreciate your desire to be open to discussion and am ready to answer any questions you may have. One simple thing you can do -- I guess it's obvious from my reaction in this post -- is clean up the RSS feed and make it more responsive. That would be a good start.
