Fulham can't afford to be relegated but how does bringing in Sanchez improve their chances? It adds instability with little time to gain much from the shakeup. And under Cookie there were masters of the draw. It may not be sexy but look at the other schedules at the bottom. It's likely with a couple draws that Fulham will be safe.

That's simply stupid. My brother had an EEE, and the hoops he had to jump through just to install GIMP was ridiculous. You need to specify that "anyone" only includes someone well versed in PCs and computing in general. How Linux developers have convinced themselves that their OS and their 'free' applications are a better or easier alternative to Windows or OSX is beyond me.

But maybe Andrew should have specified that it was the EEE with Xandros that was a great alternative to Windows if you’re just surfing the web or answering email.

Apsen's PD Issue Good question about Delta and Aspen. I think the first key difference is that we're talking about applications for one job - PD chief - versus finding multiple peace officers in Aspen. I don't know if anyone's ever conducted any polls to find out how true it is but to me there seems a large portion of cops out there interested in being a chief in a small community for a variety of reasons. Throw in the location and decent pay for such a small community and it should be no surprise Delta's had plenty of interest.

In the case of Aspen, I suspect it's the same housing issue that plagues so many growing mountain communities. What is the starting pay in Aspen for a peace officer? $17 / hr? $22 / hr? $27 / hr? It doesn't strike me that it would be easy to find housing that would make it easy to get by on those wages. There could also be some issues more specific to Aspen. It could be that a lot of young officers want to go to bigger departments to have more opportunity for advancement. It could be that Aspen has a bad reputation as a place to work, at least in terms of being a cop.

At this point, I'll believe it when I see it. 3/4th of the problem was that it rarely snows like it did last winter. The other 1/4th is the city doesn't enforce it's own ordinances that it had in place. There's no good in having a plowing plan if they're not going to tow cars on emergency snow plow routes before they plow. And neither of those addresses ticketing property owners who fail to clean their sidewalk.

Where's the beef? I have never seen any proof that renewable energies create anything more than busy work. The problem with busy work is that it's very easy to see the jobs that result from those subsidies and regulations; it's less visible all the harm they do in preventing other jobs, steering investment into marginally if at all productive areas of the economy and other such things.

I do agree that this issue shouldn't be partisan. Just as importantly this issue shouldn't be about hyperbole. And calling it "... [the]most urgent problem humanity has ever faced" is the embodiment of hyperbole. If we want to see good public discourse on this subject we need to drop the drama and address the science. If we want to see good public discourse on this subject we need to deal with facts, not unproven claims. Thank you for calling for the end of partisanship on this issue. Unfortunately more is needed to improve the discussion.

But considering how dubious ethanol's energy saving claims are in general this seems unlikely. Also given the rise in corn prices and fertilizer prices it's difficult to picture how it can be price effective. Most of all, I'd like for the Ogallala aquifer to not be sucked dry trying to grow a tropical grass (that is what corn is).

If convention goers are truly worried about saving energy they should be setting up shuttle buses, not running around in private vehicles coming and going whenever they please.

How is the Alecko-Cunningham trade helping RSL's attack? They're losing a player that, IIRC, scored 16 goals and had 10 assists for them last year. Alecko's best year saw a couple assists and 10 goals. And RSL already has a high energy-physical player in Harris. This isn't about improving RSL's attack in 2007. Kreis and Cunningham have never gotten along. Now that it's Kreis' team, he's given Cunningham the boot.

Casey is not the single reason the Rapids have a chance of making the play-offs. That is Colin Clarke. Note how once Clavijo pulled his head out of his butt and started playing the Ft. Collins native Clarke, Casey looked better. Now I don't want to take anything away from Casey. He's looked good. But he needs people around him making runs. And before Clarke was around, no one was doing it. Casey's part of the reason but Colin has been a big part of it too.

I agree with your last sentence. This little clip does not show the whole picture that was on the news. The ones ejected from the House were being disrupted.

In my house, I would ask first, for them to leave, and if not I would eject them, using whatever means I had to. But first and foremost, those kind of people would not be invited into, nor let into my house.

But Congress is the people's house, and they have the right to be there, but not the right to disrupt meetings like they did.

If prison labor is going to be such a big issue, how about thinking outside the box?

We all realize that people can and do make mistakes. So a person makes one of those big mistakes and gets (example) 5 years in prison. If that person does not have a HS diploma, he has to have it before he is released, plus his 5 years locked up. If they have a HS diploma, then they would have to learn a skilled trade, plus the full time. If they have a college diploma, they can help instruct the under educated.

The second prison would be for the ones who didn't learn from their first mistake. From sun up to sun down they would be making road pack from big rocks. NO TV, etc. Just work them until they have served their full time.

The third prison would be a concrete wall and a firing squad. They didn't learn after two mistakes, society doesn't need or want them.

I know the bleeding hearts will find all kinds of excuses about this, but if it isn't tried, how do you know this wouldn't work.

Kudos on taking a tough job. It's a situation where you're probably being asked the same single question a lot ($55M), with less people than should focusing on the young talent on that team. From your comments in the last several months, the people in KC should feel lucky to have you, and hopefully Butler and Gordon can be phased in and start making some serious offensive noise.

To be honest, in response to the question about Castillo for Keylor, I think it was simply a move made where a 35 year old player we probably weren't going to use was traded for a 28 year old player we probably aren't going to use.

The move was about age. Or something else. Anyway. Not sure what use there was, though Castillo wouldn't have been a callup for more than a couple days this season. Could've been a decision made out of professional courtesy to Castillo, given that he's a veteran and that the Orioles are currently going with Paul Bako as their backup, who shows no skills (special or otherwise) in his "set".

Keylor is a very poor man's Ryan Church. Ask a Nationals fan what that means.

Look at what the Tigers did for the fans and Detroit at-large last season. And there's probably not as big a mountain to climb in KC.

I feel ya. Every summer since I've been in college, I been wanting to spend less and less time in NB. I figure summer is too short now to spend it at some place that is familiar. It's all about going places. Plus, in my case, there are a lot of distractions at home, coupled with the strong desire to do absolutely nothing (when we all could and should be practicing ;)

Oh btw, I was at University of Denver a couple weeks ago for the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute. I ran into your mom and your sister while I was there. It was nice to see a face from the suburbs. I also met some of your fellow Miami trumpet players. Hopefully, I'll be able to find time this fall for a visit.

Anyway, seems like you're on the right track. From what I've read, you continue to be enthusiastic about music and music education. Keep it up, and best wishes for the coming semester.

I have had facebook for over a year now. My father is the one that told me to get with the program. So I did. When I started my father had over a hundred friends. I still dont have as many as him. But I still enjoy it, I have friends from the past that I havent seen in many years and we now speak again.

As far as the "Facebook Badge" I don't have it. I have facebook and I have friends there, but I only use it once in a great while. Mostly for shock value. (long story)

Good morning Larry, I don't understand why some people think the the T.V. tells the truth. When we all know its nothing but a bunch of lies. If you dont believe me, turn off your t.v. for a week and see what happens.

I did it, actually I sold my T.V. and Radio.

As far as your father, I am glad you got to see the defensive side of him. Its nice to see that.

unplugging the cable is the best thing someone can do. I not only unplugged the cable, I sold my tv too. It was one of the hardest choices I had to make. But I am super happy I made that choice. Cause now I have control over the news, commercials, and just stupid stuff that was on TV.

The internet has way more movies, documentaries, videos, blogs, etc.

My reading has improved, my communication has improved, my spelling has gotten better and I have learned a new skill. (coding)

I think the point was to show people how to save energy at all levels from a simple light bulb change to totally retrofitting your house. Of course very few people will make the investment to have a zero energy home, but when things need replacement like windows, doors, water heaters, appliance, etc. they know what to look for. Also, simple changes like CFLs can make a big difference and have a low payback time (6 months).

I think your intro is letter perfect. (Anon, I wouldn't say you're working with the hospital, as that brings into question whose best interests come first).

I only half-jokingly advocate football-type jerseys, with names on them, color-coded by job title.

There's something wrong with the part of my brain that remembers names, so my deal with everyone at work is: I'll call you by your name if I can see your name badge (<40% anecdotally), otherwise I'll be pleasant but no name, or a guess that'll probably be wrong.

They tried to fill their pitching needs in 2005 but they got the wrong guys. They signed Pavano, and he was a huge bust. Then Jaret Wright failed a physical, but the Yankees signed him anyway. This time if we can get Sabathia, we MUST get him. We have a good enough lineup, now we need the pitching.
