in Going Home on Andy Zweibel - Music Musings and Other Randoms…
Hey man. Came across your website on Facebook. Looks pretty cool.

I feel ya. Every summer since I've been in college, I been wanting to spend less and less time in NB. I figure summer is too short now to spend it at some place that is familiar. It's all about going places. Plus, in my case, there are a lot of distractions at home, coupled with the strong desire to do absolutely nothing (when we all could and should be practicing ;)

Oh btw, I was at University of Denver a couple weeks ago for the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute. I ran into your mom and your sister while I was there. It was nice to see a face from the suburbs. I also met some of your fellow Miami trumpet players. Hopefully, I'll be able to find time this fall for a visit.

Anyway, seems like you're on the right track. From what I've read, you continue to be enthusiastic about music and music education. Keep it up, and best wishes for the coming semester.

in OhGizmo! » Archive » My Asus EEE PC - Goodbye Xandros, Hello XP on OhGizmo!
"Linux has MUCH more software, available to anyone..."

That's simply stupid. My brother had an EEE, and the hoops he had to jump through just to install GIMP was ridiculous. You need to specify that "anyone" only includes someone well versed in PCs and computing in general. How Linux developers have convinced themselves that their OS and their 'free' applications are a better or easier alternative to Windows or OSX is beyond me.

But maybe Andrew should have specified that it was the EEE with Xandros that was a great alternative to Windows if you’re just surfing the web or answering email.

in Cab Business Splurges Again On Taxi Proposal on The Colorado Independent
Crossing Fingers Hopefully this bill will pass.  Taxi service in this state is horrible.  I'd be more than happy to use any company that can show they can actually provide decent service compared to what the big 3 offers.

in The Irony Of The Bruce Anti-Tax Machine on The Colorado Independent
The Money Is His What Bruce does with his money is his choice.  It's incorrect to claim that say that the Colorado taxpayers donates to Active Citizens Together.  The taxpayers pay Bruce's salary.  That he donates all of it to ACT  means that Bruce donates all of his salary to ACT. It does not mean that the taxpayers are giving to ACT.

Not So Perfect Laws Of Nature "Who created these perfect laws, that keeps the planet in motion, keeps the blood pumping through our bodies?  " - Ben Stein

But these "laws" aren't perfect.  Gravity can be bugger.  Just ask anyone who's slipped and fell on ice.  And that blood pumping through your body is usually pretty good.  But what if you get a form of cancer that quickly spreads through out your body via the bloodstream?  How perfect are the "laws" governing them?  When you really think about them, they're not perfect.  They're neither good nor bad.  They just are.

It's "Tam McManus"... which just adds the question I already had ---> Where the heck are you getting that rumor??!???? I haven't seen any sources for it least not anything credible. The guy just signed a 2 year deal with his club and has been scoring goals. Why would they be looking to sell him with just over a week left in the transfer window?

in GM to Denver Convention: Drive my car on The Colorado Independent
GM + Ethanol ----> Bullcrap! 9 million gallons of gasoline saved in a year?  Based on what?  Of course they're not going to tell us how they came to that number.  But considering how dubious ethanol's energy saving claims are in general this seems unlikely.  Also given the rise in corn prices and fertilizer prices it's difficult to picture how it can be price effective.  Most of all, I'd like for the Ogallala aquifer to not be sucked dry trying to grow a tropical grass (that is what corn is).

If convention goers are truly worried about saving energy they should be setting up shuttle buses, not running around in private vehicles coming and going whenever they please.

in Energy Expert to State Lawmakers: Global Warming is Not a Partisan Issue on The Colorado Independent
Where's the beef? I have never seen any proof that renewable energies create anything more than busy work.  The problem with busy work is that it's very easy to see the jobs that result from those subsidies and regulations; it's less visible all the harm they do in preventing other jobs, steering investment into marginally if at all productive areas of the economy and other such things.

I do agree that this issue shouldn't be partisan.  Just as importantly this issue shouldn't be about hyperbole.  And calling it "... [the]most urgent problem humanity has ever faced" is the embodiment of hyperbole.  If we want to see good public discourse on this subject we need to drop the drama and address the science.  If we want to see good public discourse on this subject we need to deal with facts, not unproven claims.  Thank you for calling for the end of partisanship on this issue.  Unfortunately more is needed to improve the discussion.

in New Snow Removal Plan No Snow Job, City Claims on The Colorado Independent
I'll Believe It When I See It

At this point, I'll believe it when I see it.  3/4th of the problem was that it rarely snows like it did last winter.  The other 1/4th is the city doesn't enforce it's own ordinances that it had in place.  There's no good in having a plowing plan if they're not going to tow cars on emergency snow plow routes before they plow.  And neither of those addresses ticketing property owners who fail to clean their sidewalk.

Lack Of Discourse Ah, yes again another article that contributes no more to the public discourse on the issue than Rush Limbaugh has done.  Can we talk about the science?  Would that really be so hard?

And for the record, most of Al Gore's claims are ridiculous.  Just a few weeks ago Holland was on Colorado Matters and gave a very, VERY diplomatic answer to a question about the validity of Al Gore's claims.
