and yet somehow this insider information that's been kept secret for strategic reasons inside a campaign somehow got to you on the day of the caucus so you could announce it.

in Clinton Avoiding Students? on The Iowa Independent
Even in April, HC was unfriendly to questions Even in April, HC was unfriendly to antiwar sentiment and the real questions. People I know who had attended a Des Moines appearance earlier that day said that the same child/young teen was called on and asked the very same question at both appearances. What a farce.
I was not allowed to bring in an antiwar sign. "No homemade signs allowed," they said. "Oh--so I could bring in a John Edwards sign if it wasn't homemade?" Dead silence.

in Tis the Season to Claim Black Inferiority on Jack and Jill Politics
feh. Watson has been saying loony things for years. It's part of his carefully-cultivated bad-boy image. He's already tried to walk this one back
"Science is no stranger to controversy and I am not one to shy away from tackling issues, however, difficult they might prove to be," he said.
"I have had my share of controversy, as many of you know. But I am mortified about what has happened.
"More importantly, I cannot understand how I could have said what I am quoted as having said. I can certainly understand why people, reading those words, have reacted in the ways they have.
"To all those who have drawn the inference from my words that Africa, as a continent, is somehow genetically inferior, I can only apologize unreservedly.
"That is not what I meant. More importantly from my point of view, there is no scientific basis for such a belief."
although apparently he's heard from enough Fox News fans bleating about political correctness that he's trying to walk the apology back now.
And lo, everyone paid attention to him when he had a book coming out. Funny how that happens.

Um, yeah. Sure.
It might put this in perspective to get a little background on Lt. Col Rice and her (and Jeb Bush's and Republican fundraiser Sid Dinerstein's) NBRA.

Pois olhe, já ví novamente, chorei do mesmo jeito e não me envergonho-apesar de já ter 37 anos!Quem manda o Tornattore escrever uma cena como aquela do final, com a sequencia dos beijos?

in Those Who Would Be President and Hurricane Katrina - A Review on Jack and Jill Politics
When reviewing the Republican candidate sites, I admit I was shocked. Rudy Giuliani is running on his dubious record on 9/11 and whom associates himself with security and crisis response. Yet there is only a headline link for a terse Katrina statement.
If that shocks you, I have to think you spent the nineties somewhere other than New York. Giuliani is interested in burnishing his image and punishing people who damage his image. Many people who damaged his image during his term as mayor by being mistreated by his police and his policies for being poor or not-white or dying of AIDS or by wanting to use their civil liberties or their government benefits and making him look bad.
Those people got hurt if Giuliani could hurt them because he's always made it abundantly clear that it pisses him off that they have the nerve to exist in his city.
The people of New Orleans can thank God he wasn't in charge during Katrina. He wouldn't have just kept the supplies out. He would have sent in snipers to deal with the imaginary looters (not hyperbole. He sent snipers to demonstrations he didn't like)

in Hip Hop Money and the 2008 Elections on Jack and Jill Politics
I was never all that comfortable with Simmons' support of Michael Steele (the sight of people at NRO calling themselves hip hop Republicans was more than a little queasy making), but he certainly does put his money (and his time) where his mouth is. I'd really like to see him back on my side of the fence.
I guess the anti-"rap" jihad Michelle Malkin set off in defense of Imus isn't working out for her party all that well.

in Hate In The Republican Party Predates Karl Rove on Jack and Jill Politics
Bless you. I couldn't agree more.
Sullivan was one of the most strident Bush supporters online, from the "fifth column" remark, and was a strident supporter of the party that softened up Washington for this debacle by wasting eight years "investigating" and blocking judicial appointments instead of governing. He finally, as you said, explicitly broke with "his" movement over gay marriage because he Just Couldn't Believe that they would behave that way to Good people.
Presumably everyone else whose lives and future he cheered them on to destroying, well, wasn't an altar boy.
Sullivan would like Rove to be the problem, just like Mr. Frum would or Mr. Broder or any number of congresspeople and staffers and think tank welfare cases and writers at heavily-subsidized right-wing magazines (those categories overlap, of course. Just ask Mr. Sullivan).
They'd like Rove to be the problem because if he's the problem they can go back to doing exactly what they've been doing and it'll work this time.
What they're forgetting, I'd like to think, is that what they've been doing only works if no-one's watching.
I think maybe even the most apathetic among us have learned that we can't afford not to watch.
