I thought I has read several times that paint/ink did not need to be tested if it had been bonded to the substrate.

I am pretty sure CPSIA changed that.

in Google Similar Images: Poor Copy Detection on Plagiarism Today
I started looking at it and did indeed find some infringement after a bit, but I don't think that was quite due to their technology as me looking up my specific image titles. It seems it works better for coming up with the same general subject and colors.

Precisely. It's got a good use, just not one for detecting image matches...

Like someone else said in the previous post, the infringers are often unhappy about it and possibly immature and known to send nasty letters back so it's understandable.

I agree that it is understandable. But there also has to be some balance. Still, the law is the law on this issue and you shouldn't have to submit your full address if you don't want.

in Personal Info and DMCA Notices on Plagiarism Today
I use a PO box but I do know of a lot of artists who are wary of giving out that information because they only have one address. That's interesting you don't think everything needs to be included. I think I'm used to dealing with sites that ask for it all.

I'm finding it to be interesting the sites that ask for all of the information versus those that don't. The law doesn't demand you do so but hosts do routinely take liberties with the DMCA. This is just one such area.
I would try not including everything and then seeing what happens, if it gets rejected you can refile.

Morons. I have 100-20 old books and they are all special, because they don't exist in a newer form.

I contacted lots of Senators on the relevant committees because my own has taken 2 months to respond at all. Many of them have also replied and I have not been told to contact my own. If you call they will not ask where you live. If you really want to email there's an easy way around the forms rejecting you.

in CC0: Waiving Copyrights on Plagiarism Today
I think CC just complicates the issue. We have so many people who misunderstand what they can use that CC often misleads them more into thinking anything use is ok.

Jonathan Bailey
I agree that there is a serious problem with people understanding what CC means and what copyright means in general. Anthony Falzone, the head of the Stanford Fair Use Project, once described CC as a "GUI for copyright", which is exactly what it is. The problem is that, for some people, providing a GUI for copyright is like living someone a license and an easy-to-drive car without teaching them the rules of the road.
If you understand the basics of copyright, CC simplifies things greatly and if you use tools like Photodropper, it makes it seamless, but the challenge is getting the knowledge and tools out there.

Mercer Meyer I believe is still alive. Susan Cooper, Patrica Mckillip,. Roald Dahl and Edward Gorey probably have people managing their estates.

I read books published in the 20s as a kid and have always been drawn to old books because I thought anything antique was great. I think I could spend days in your book collection.

I am glad I snatched some books I wanted from the 70s and 80s up on Sunday night. There may be a million versions of fairy tales but each illustrator is unique and there are many people who collect them.

I sent them a copy links to copyright myth sites and told them they were misinformed. They admitted they were wrong and said they'd delete it and then never did.
This is site that lets people upload images and and then sell accessories for their avatars. That wasn't the case with this one. It was just posted on a blog there.

I've had that happen before. The host wrote back and claimed it wasn't a copyright issue because they weren't selling it.

Did they ever live in the real world though?
Even without the comment period they needed to publicize it much much earlier so thift stores and publishers were not taken suddenly off guard at the last minute. In the real world it takes lots of time, and money, and employees, and organization and perhaps actually reading the bill in order to prepare to comply with it. All summer people who had no idea this was to be dumped on them were manufacturing things seasons ahead of time.
Several printing associations signed the recent letter from NAM at least. All I've seen from LULU is that they are waiting for exemptions.
BTW Your book list over there reminds me I should get back to reading more Patrick O'Brian someday.

Reasonable? POD books/T-shirts are often printed one at a time, just like handmade items. This is another area they overlooked entirely.

See, I think most of them have simply been in D.C. waaaay too long and have
no idea how the real world works, if they ever did. They needed to
publicize this thing FAR more, and much more accurately than they did in
order to get public comments from people who live in the real world.
And we need term limits.

This is disappointing. Many users do not know about the settings, or in the case that they've uploaded art not belonging to them aren't likely to care. If art is taken down and doesn't stay down, finding it after it's been re uploaded with a different name is more difficult.
