King's Selective Memory Here's another part of the Atlantic article from which King probably culled his prurient factoid:

"Goh announced that women would be given eight weeks of paid maternity leave after the birth of their third child (previously they were given paid leave only for their first and second children). He outlined a 'baby bonus' plan, whereby the government would pay families up to the equivalent of about $5,000 in U.S. currency over six years for a second child and up to twice that for a third.  The money would be earmarked for the children's educational needs."

You'll notice that the only part of Singapore's plan that "kind of stood out in King's mind" was the incidental trivia of the newspaper in car windows, not the substantial government social spending that was the actual functional nuts and bolts of the program.

Their Honda certification at boston herb chambers is total BS. They don't even bother to go thru the 150 checkpoint but just write completed. When I bought a car, i found about 13 points not meeting the certification requirement. I'm in the process of reporting this to Honda. Just watch out.

I've never known an atheist that wasn't a nice, reasonable (and generally liberal) person, and it pains me to see a guy like Hitchens purporting to represent atheism. Uh.

A Questionable Angle I don't know that this is actually a useful angle-- or even necessarily a fair one-- for criticizing King.  At least not when positioned as crudely as it is in this article.  After all, I presume that if King had been a standout in obtaining pork for the Fifth District this page would have criticized the inconsistency with King's conservative rhetoric about government spending.

Understand, I am no fan of King's.  I think he's a windbag and a jackass: dishonest on some points, hateful and bigoted on others, and merely foolish on most of the rest.  And I accept as possible that the meagreness of the federal funding he's obtained for Iowa may have more to do with ineffectiveness at working with House colleagues than with adherence to any conservative principles.  But I still think there's something wrong about this article, and that it doesn't reflect well on our side to employ this argument.

In the case of this post, the first one went to 8 minute video link with superb quality. It's pretty obvious why they've had to start doing this and for me, I prefer the links, beats 4 embeds to a page, if Youtube is slow, sometimes you had to wait an age for the vids to appear, and now you get to see interviews etc too.
