in Making Mayonaise is so Mysterious. on The Common Room
The goal of piano lessons is something to be persued, and should never be dampened by the fear of practicing in front of siblings. It's easier said than done, but an artist (and student) has to have a thick outer skin and an ability to laugh at him or herself.

in 100 latest FREE music making software - May 2009 on Making Music
Huge list. Huge selection.

Although I can see the attraction in this free software, I still prefer to buy for my specific composing needs.

in Beginner Piano Lessons - Hearing the Music on Piano Notes
I think that music is much larger in scope than simply knowing where the notes are. Having said that, notes and there proper placement on a keyboard are a very practical pre-requisite for learning written music from the past and present. It's a good piano teacher's task to find a balance between practical necessity and aesthetic thoughts.

in Robot Heart on robot-heart
Although I wouldn't personally get involved in a lego tournament, at least the participants are developing imagination and hand/eye coordination. I prefer to enhance those skills through the practicing of an instrument.

in Free Desktop Piano Keyboard on Techie Buzz
Cute. It's amazing how many high tech devices there are out there. I think its kind of cool being able to produce sounds from a traditional keyboard and mouse, although the novelty would probably be short-lived, in my case.

in Listen: Breakfast Wizard on Consequence of Sound
It's always interesting to guess what two different styles would sound like if merged. History is filled with composers that have combined previous styles in order to create their own sound. Thanks for the fun article and the link, which I have will recommend to some colleagues.

in TESTS NOW SHOW IF CHILD IS TONE DEAF OR MUSICAL on Modern Mechanix
Interesting test. My concern is that the test doesn't account for variables like a child's maturity level, age, ability to concentrate at a given moment... In my opinion, the last thing a parent would want to do is label a kid's musicality based on this one test.

I'm speechless... and hungry for gum. This is cool technology, although I think thatthe novelty of it all wouldn't last long with me personally.
