in The Popdose Guide to David Mead on Popdose
Brilliant piece on a great artist - nice one Jeff. Mead does indeed have an astounding back catalogue, although for me Indiana is the strongest, most consistent set of the bunch. On my dream holiday to NY at the end of last year, I had Only In The Movies randomly playing on my iPod when I noticed a Facebook message from an old school friend, now in the army. A poignant moment for many reasons, but the soundtrack for that moment couldn't have been better chosen. Check out a typically stunning live version of WYA track Astronaut here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ss_gUg5HZDA

in Dw. Dunphy On… Ben Folds on Popdose
The EPs were pretty hit and miss too though. Some terrible covers and average originals, but overall redeemed by stuff like Protected and Kalamazoo. I hope he stops pissing around with soundtrack stuff and gets back to making proper, solid records like Suburbs and the last BFF one.

in Cutouts Gone Wild!: Living in a Box, “Gatecrashing” on Popdose
Aw come on.... Room In Your Heart brings back fond memories - I'm sure it was a fairly big-ish hit over here. Singer Richard Darbyshire had a constant stream of releases in the bargain bins for a good few years after the band's commercial peak.

Good call. You're right, it was decidedly overlooked on pretty much every Best Of list (aside from my own at least, where it came out top - http://onthetrailofthegreat.blogspot.com/2007/1...). And yup, Say That Again is my fave tune off the album - not Neil's best chorus ever, but there's something about the feel of that song that does it every time. Brilliant album, and anyone who really got into it should check out the Finn Brothers's 2004 record Everyone Is Here, which has a similar vibe.

in Motion Picture Soundtrack: Elliott Smith, “Needle in the Hay” on Popdose
Got a feeling Elliott's Academy Award nomination was for Miss Misery - something to do with it having to be an original track written specifically for the movie - although Between The Bars is indeed in Good Will Hunting, it had already come out on the Either/Or record.

Oops - you're right. Sloppy on my part.
