in A shout out to the gang at TigerDirect.ca on Shooting at Bubbles
I am glad to hear that somebody (bodies) are having a good TigerDirect experience... As a IT pro I am having trouble with TD.us getting even simple orders filled. (e.g. more than a week to get one CPU fan)

20% of the people volunteer, 80% say they should.
20% of the volunteers do 80% of the work.

in Is my candidate too elite? (Scripting News) on Scripting News
Just how many angels can dance on the head of your pin? From you of all people I expected a sense of intellectual fair play, not semantic jousting. You are little better than the power-elite that would derail an honest man and his efforts.

Have a 'nice' day.

dave I think he was wrong, and I think it matters a lot. As I said, that's how we lost the 2004 election, and if you want to lose, go for it. I don't. I want to win. You have a nice day too.

Only yesterday I was reflecting, with a heavy heart, that we only have one book store in this entire town. Very sad!

Color me confused!!! I can legally buy one copy of MS Office and install it on three computers???

BillV That confused me as well. Add that to his claims about non-existent features in GoogleDocs (pointed out by a reply to the RWW article as well) that I've seen first hand, and quite a bit of wind is taken out of Karim's sails.

Contrary to popular belief Marketing is the world's oldest profession... after all, you have to show your <strike>under</strike>wares before you consummate the transaction.

in Social networks are destroying blogging on Shooting at Bubbles
First of all - thanks for the props.

The WinExtra Community, while fewer in numbers, far exceeds the value of the FaceB community in my book. Real people gathering together to share real lives. That is what community is about.

in Killing Me (Blog) Softly on The Marketing Technology Blog
I guess I am not surprised. I have little enough time to scan RSS feeds let alone visit individual blog sites. (Blame the whole matter on me!) To make matters worse, if a blogger doesn't offer a full feed I generally can't afford to read the blurb and _then_ have to go to the site to finish the offering. (Sorry, blame me again, it is all my fault.)

Hey Doug:

I gotta say it is a little unnerving that you are watching over my shoulder...just how is it that you knew I had deleted 3+ drafts that just weren't 'tunable'? Huh?

Good one!

in The politicians come begging tech for money on Scobleizer
[Tongue-in-cheek] Yes Robert there is a Santa Claus ...and... Edwards wants money. But it wasn't money that he was/is after in courting your voice. I think Edwards was/is just reading the writing on the ... blog! The money, or real value, that you offer is FREE name exposure. Every time you mention his candidacy or any part of the process Edwards gets his name in front of all those "eye balls".

Please don't hate Blogspot because it is beautiful... You gotta love it's save-your-work-on-the-fly functionality...

Or, you could compose your posts in Google Docs which also has an auto-save functionality.

in Protecting Software and Customers from Counterfeiters? on The Marketing Technology Blog
"I’m a firm believer that most people will only steal when they have to."

I sooooo want to believe you. I so much so want to believe that the loaves of bread that are stolen only go the feed the hungry family of the thief. I so much so want that to be true...

But, in this day and age I believe that software, anybody's software, is seen through the smoked-glass spectacles of the early years of Microsoft's Windows 3.something... NOT that copying it was right(!!!) but rather that Microsoft didn't "seem to mind" the copying. (Wholly not true but that was the perception.)

I don't believe that Joe Average is capable of clearly distinguishing between the hard work of select programmers, trying to eek out a living, and the mega-business-monoliths that are just trying to exact a fair price for their product. As such there is little concern on Joe's part which software he or she "uses" in what ever legal or illegal fashion.

This is a matter of perception and a flawed one at that. We should pay for every program we use. I just don't believe that Joe Average maintains the same perception.

sorry...just my $0.02
