I must say that the internet is not as fun as it used to be. Now folks have to be accountable for their trash talk. They can no longer hide behind fake pseudonyms and lame avatars. I'm going to miss it.
I have been counseling a friend of mine who has been on an angry rampage on Facebook. I have been trying to make him understand that all the efforts he put into building his network is slowly being unraveled. Apparently he is mad that "they don't seem to pay attention to [him]." My note to him was they are probably paying attention now. It's the way things are.
If anything, the internet has made me a much more honest and transparent individual. I am not perfect, but I'm a decent person. It makes sense to be careful wherever you are, so I just stick to being mindful of that.

in Promoting Vs Relationship Building on Jacob Morgan on Social Media, Technology, Marketing, and Life
Preach Jacob, preach!
Nice image up there by the way... I got a good chuckle out of that.
I am finding that the concept of social media marketing is definitely going to be an uphill climb for those pushing it, because people are still stuck on the quick turnaround. I don't know why people believe in the fast cash schemes with no sustenance plan. It's crazy.

in Community sourcing evolves to the brand level | Web Business by Ken Burbary on Web Business by Ken Burbary
Great piece, Ken. I have been forwarding this to people that I feel need to wise up and start taking social media seriously.
Gennefer hit it right on the head, especially when it comes to reason #1. I find it interesting that even people my own age (twenty-something) don't see the possible benefit when they are subject to changes made via community sourcing every day.

in life.txt | “Hipsters Need Soul Too”, Dj Graffiti (hosted by... on Life In Text Format
The hipster craze is built on the backs of lemming-like teens, who think the nihilist, but whimsical musings of poor 20-something art students is totally rad. Said musings have been compartmentalized and turned into commerce. Urban Outfitters benefits as do DJs who were playing this type of stuff long before Bud Light Lime even knew who Santogold was.
If anything, it's given those art students a way to put some money in their pockets. I don't know if that's good or bad. I don't really care for it, but I'm not mad at it either.

in life.txt | “Heartless”. Kanye West hmmm rotoscope animation... on Life In Text Format
I am not a real fan of Kanye West. I am a big fan of what he represents, but I don't like his persona and I don't think his music is that exceptional either. Kanye is good for a decent production, but he is not up there with the greats as he'd like us to believe.
I have purchased every Kanye project and given them away as gifts. It's my way of supporting what I believe in, but not totally buying in. I don't think I am going to be purchasing this one though. I don't think either of my usual recipients will even want it.

in Twitter: Unfollow me, it’s not personal on Web Business by Ken Burbary
I don't particularly care about who unfollows me. I do use Qwitter, because I am trying to network with certain individuals and I'm testing if my tweets are counter-productive. At the same time, I don't really take it personal.
I considered following a ton of people to attract new followers, but I have taken a stance that I would rather it happen organically. I am running into plenty of decent Tweeters on happenstance, just like I ran into this blog.
Don't worry about your followers, you do good work Mr. Burbary.

in The Vital Importance of Links on Chris Brogan
Reading this, I believe I shall change the way I write on my site just a tad. I didn't realize how I could be helping the things I support by "textualizing" their relevance.
