in Obama Shreds Conservative Pundit on The Washington Independent
This is why Barack will win.

After all the lying bull crap the Republicans throw at him, his answers are reasoned and well thought out.

Getting to know him is wanting to vote for him and the 'Yes We Can' campaign over the "No you McCain't campaign.

Who besides the oil companies want the third Bush Term?

Lets talk about John Edwards personal life.

Mr. Pappu, this is really pretty pathetic.

in McCain Scoffs at TWI Question On Truthiness on The Washington Independent
McCain hasn't got a chance in hell so he's doing the Republican thing of going negative.

The fact that he used the image of Paris Hilton in a derogatory manor in his ad, while her parents gave him the maximum contribution allowable by law says something else about McCain's loyalty and ethics.

His loyalty is to himself and he has no ethics.

John McCain is married to a woman who has 100 million dollars.

John McCain owns eight houses.

He opposed the new and improved GI Bill because too many GIs would use it and get out of the military. He wants to keep them down and in the military for the Iran war.

John McCain has his and doesn't want anyone else to get some.

in McCain’s Disembodied Head Talks About War on The Washington Independent
Did John McCain know about the Bush push for war and why did he vote for an unneeded, unjustified and seemingly endless war of preemption that saps our military strength and puts our National Security at risk?

McCain has criticized the conduct of the war but embraces the concept of preemptive war. A concept that has no moral understanding and has been condemned by every leading religious authority in the world. Not withstanding the crack-pot religious right wing nut jobs in America and else where who masquerade as Christians.

Greed is good right? Bigger house, bigger truck. When bigger itself doesn't do it, buy a four wheel drive Lincoln Navigator.

American consumerism used to be called conspicuous consumption in the past, when people still held a concept of shame.

Lieberman should expect to lose his chairmanship. Too bad, that now that the Democrats will be returning with a substantial majority he could have been somebody. Now, not so much.

in McCain’s Base Problem Continues on The Washington Independent
Poor old John McCain. I don't think John's biggest problem will be the base now that he seems to have the nomination wrapped up. I think John's biggest problem will be running away.

First he has to run away from President Bush, the dimmest, dumbest and least liked of all the Presidents in American history. (God willing will ever have)

Then he has to run away from candidate John McCain who pandered to the lunatic, right-wing ... er, the Republican base to get the nomination. Have you all heard what he told the crazy people?

Then of course he will have to run away from the Republican brand name. The name brand Republican has come to be as tattered as their ethics. The Republican Congressional Leadership has publicly decried it's decline and is reflected in their inability to compete with the Democrats in fund raising.

Then there is the Republican Congressional Scandals to run away from. How many of his fellow Republicans legislators are currently under investigation or indictment (including the Republican Congressional Committee Treasurer) ? Reverse coat tails could suck him all the way under.

in Webb To The Rescue on The Washington Independent
Senator Webb has been around and knows what is going on in the military and what is needed for a strong American National Security.

Two questions about him.

Is he good enough to get past the military/industrial/government complex and work not for the complex but for the American people? It sure looks like it.

Would he be willing to become Obama's running mate?

Not as easy to answer. The man is an alpa male make no mistake. But I think he has in the past and will if called upon, do so now.

in Petraeus vs. Webb on The Washington Independent
Jim Webb would, on a short leash, be an excellent Vice President to Barack Obama. He's a fearsome patriot of American virtues and values. His credibility impeccable, his courage unquestioned.

He would be a reassuring presence for anyone who has questions about Barack's lack of national security experience.

But Senator Webb, you'll have to leave the guns to the Secret Service.

in IVAW Member To Refuse Deployment To Iraq on The Washington Independent
Sgt. Chiroux has made a considered, I hope, stand on his principals. As a young man who had the courage to volunteer to defend his country with his life if called to.

As an older man with experience behind this sort of courage, he is making a stand. He will no longer serve in an immoral war of preemption.

Each act is the act of a principled, man of conscience.

May God bless him.

in McCain Foreign Policy: Bush Doctrine Plus on The Washington Independent
Gee, Spencer I agree one hundred percent. Bush is an evil little man, but really, did he know what he was unleashing in Iraq?

Take old John McCain now. Here is a man that knows war as few do and embraces it, knowing the worst that it will offer.

This is Mc-Insane, McCrazy ....... McUnelectable. The Republican party is over, much like my youth. McCain can't get elected and rather then lifting the under ticket he will drag it down like an anchor. The party is broke at the national and state levels and what is it they say about money and politics?

Still we need to talk about something and anything that isn't Hillary sucking the life out of the Democratic Party is a diversion. Thanks for the article.

in Gender Betrayal on The Washington Independent
Gee Ms. Fleming, I agree with most of your article.

Except ... I feel that her vote to authorize the use of force in Iraq couldn't have been any more considered, calculated, callused then coldly cast only to shore up her National Security credentials. At the time of the vote, Americans favored the action so was a safe vote for her.

It was also wrong and contributory to American's largest foreign policy blunder of all time.

The fact that there was a 96 page NIE that dissuaded the Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee from voting for the authorization, that Senator Clinton failed to read, was a dereliction of duty she owed to the men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. It was a dereliction of the duty she owed all of us.

That is shameful, unforgivable and fails the Presidential threshold test.

The really funny thing is that if she had shown due diligence and come to the same conclusion that Senator Graham did, she would have had this nomination sewed up by now.

Then she could have run as the woman who could sweep out the capital of all that typical men's politics stuff, you know like unjustified and immoral wars of preemption.

But she couldn't use it because she was on the wrong side from the beginning.

Like Barack Obama said about her, "She's not so bad.", but just wrong.

I could have voted for a woman. I couldn't care less about the sex or sex life of the next President, I am however real mad about the Iraq war.

in The Man and The Machine on The Washington Independent
All politics are locale.

Unless you have some real money, as in billions, you come up through the ranks in one way or the other. Some come up through the unions, some through churches or community organizations.

It was the same for my Irish/Italian ancestors who worked the political machines throughout the northeast from Chicago to Boston and New York and every town and city in-between.

So Obama worked with a church backed community organization and made the transition to a locale (state wide) political office as a Illinois State Senator. State legislatures are the AAA minor leagues for office in Washington D.C.

Let's take the sports analogy one step future. Barack Obama is the rare superstar who transcends and changes the game.

He is a capable, intelligent, man of character and diverse background who is able to voice the hopes and dreams of the vast number of Americans of all persuasions who still hold the American dream possible even after the last eight years of fascist government. There could be no better face to put on the leadership of America to the world then Barack Obama, a man who has never voted for an immoral and unjustified war of preemption, but calls for the unity of people.

Condemning Barack Obama for the locale politics in Chicago would be just plain silly. Every politician in Washington is backed by the locale pols back home. The same political machines for the most part.

Why are these corporations allowed to exist? At what point will another corporation hire them to impose some WTO directive on some 3rd world country that objects to a disparaging contract?

This crap feast is wrong on so many levels.

That Blackwater is allowed, indeed has a right to, make political contributions to politicians who advance their financial interest, war, is a national moral shame.

I support Barack Obama, but I would like to know what he will do to fix this.
