in Full Council Update: Recycling & Window Cleaners on James Barlow
Here in Greensboro, North Carolina the City runs a curb side recycling program that gives the recyclables to a 3rd party private recycler while picking up all the costs of transportation allowing the contractor to keep all the profits. Leaders in Bristol appear smarter.

in danah continues the “precious,” er, Facebook conversation… on Scobleizer
Funny, my own blogging network even with all its flaws still manages to do what Facebook cannot or will not do and unlike Facebook, MuseCrafters doesn't retain and make available to others your info after you've deactivated your account. Also, unlike Facebook we allow users to delete their accounts without caching their info.

And as a managing partner at MuseCrafters I stand by that pledge.

in Why Social Networks Don’t Work for Business on Oracle AppsLab
Web 2.0 is all hype and nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt at Internet sharecropping, hence Web 2.0 is doomed to failure.

Robert,
Please pardon me for being completely off-topic but I thought you might really enjoy Blogsboro's new toy: Paging Robert Scoble!

PS. My comment feature has been flaky all day but as soon as we're done with the party we'll fix it.

Wish you were here.

I agree 100%. As a matter of fact I make this same point in my soon to be released free blogging book. You know, the one I told you I was releasing back in December? Darn thing keeps on getting bigger. And hopefully better.

in Twitter to live, but don’t live to Twitter on Mathew's comments
Like you I wasn't impressed with Twitter until the locals here in Blogsboro learned some worthwhile uses for Twitter:
1. http://bloggingpoet.squarespace.com/bloggingpoe...

2. http://bloggingpoet.squarespace.com/bloggingpoe...

By the way, Stumbleupon is the real Internet crack. ;-)

in Do A-list bloggers have a responsibility to link to others? on Scobleizer
Robert,
Let's here it for the Asian guy, the real brains and originator of the idea for ConvergeSouth. Not that I want to take anything away from Sue (she's fantastic) but I think he's feeling a little left out and he's such a nice guy and a necessary part of what keeps Blogsboro alive.

in YTPC: YouTube Pays Content producers on Scobleizer
It's called Web 3.0 and it's about time there was some actual sharing of wealth instead of the usual Web 2.0 sharecropping that has been going on for so long now.

Being the actual first born son of a sharecropper I bristle every time I hear of these Web 2.0 millionaires and billionaires who made their money while others worked for free often making huge investments in time and equipment only to be left with nothing when the big guys sell out to the Googles of the world.

Tomorrow morning I'll be posting a story about a new Blogsboro startup that has plans to pay their members. Death to Web 2.0, Life to Web 3.0!

in Why do great employees leave? Why must great companies still recruit? on The Marketing Technology Blog
I believe you've made some great observations and I'll add that at many companies the greatest employees are often taken advantage of while the lesser employees are allowed just to skate by which leads to burn-out and total dissatisfaction with what they once believed to be a great job.

Allan,
Thanks for setting Ginger straight. To all who read this, Allan Jenkins and I had a misunderstanding because I jumped to incorrect conclusions. It was all my fault. Thankfully Allan has forgiven me and I, Allan.

Robert,
Sadly, you're exactly right. Fact is: the problem is far bigger than you or me either one and until a really big group of bloggers with some big time commercial and government backing gets behind us there's little that can be done.

Thanks for commenting so quickly and for being honest in your answers.

in Why My Feeds Are Full on Plagiarism Today
Jonathan,
For starters: thanks for the link.

And more importantly, thanks for the best written, most thought out article to date on the long/short debate. You made both sides very clear and remained entirely fair and balanced.

Finally, because my next post is regarding this very subject I'll be pointing to this article for reference.

Again Thanks. -Billy

in Facebook under major revolt on Scobleizer
My grandfather used to say, "The fastest way to the bottom of the mountain is to run right off the side of the road but that don't mean it's a good idea."

I suspect Facebook was full of good intentions but were taken in by some overzealous programmer whose only goal is to show what he can do. There's a ton of websites out there with too many useless and potentially harmfull whistles and bells. Instead of asking, "What else CAN we do?" programmers (and their CEOs) need to ask, "What do we NEED to do?"

By the way, I hear that 20,000 is now up to 130,000 and growing.

in eBay shows how to recession-proof Web 2.0 on Scobleizer
I recently dropped the e-bay affiliate program along with about 50 others. The reason: One million page views in the last 12 months and not one red cent in my pocket from e-bay or any of the others I dropped. I'll stick with Amazon and the few others that actually earn money for me.

And some advice for bloggers looking at affiliate plans. If the retailer is using an ad company to manage their affiliate plan you'll probably never earn enough money to ever meet their minimum payouts. I was in some of the affiliate programs for five years and never made a dime.

So who pays their bills? Google and yahoo if you have enough traffic. Payperpost.com is another good place to do business and I've been getting monthly checks from http://www.altmedia101.com for over a year.

in The startup sound in Vista … on Scobleizer
"You can turn on your Vista machine, go eat some cereal, while your machine is cold booting and then this gentle sound will come out telling you that you can log in. You won’t need to wait for your machine to startup, he says."

Pleasssse...

My six year old imac is up and running, ready to work before I can get out of my chair, I'll eat my cerial whenever I feel like it, not when a PC tells me to go waste some time.

And yes, I can start up without any sound or with the sound at any level I like. My advice: buy any old used Apple computer you can get your hands on as long as it's USB equipped and load OSX. Why do you think 6 year old Apples still sell for 500 bucks and people send 6 year old PCs to the dump? It's because Apples are the far better machine.

in Google lawyers NOT evil on Scobleizer
So few people understand Trademark law or Intellectual Property laws of any sort yet so many are so quick to judge. I know it sounds crazy and yes the laws are strange but US Trademark Law requires that companies send in the law dogs for even minor infractions. If you don't believe me then google it.

in Contra Costa Times looks at women bloggers on Scobleizer
I'm curious okay. Just where is this so called "A List" and who's on it. I've seen the Blolibrity list, I'm even listed on their "C list" but we all know they're not for real, right? (I know several of the Bloglibeity A&B Listers personally and happen to know they're audiences are equal to and sometimes less than my audience.)

So where is the real "A List?" I've been at this blogging thing since 2002 and while I've heard lots of references I've never seen a real list.

And without a real list who's to say who's on it and who's not? I mean, I hear references to so called "A Listers every day that turn out to be people no one I know has ever heard of.

A shortage of women on the "A List?" What list?
