For England, 2014 should be the real target
They finally got the right manager after 5 years of messing around.
But Terry, Beckham, James and maybe Ferdinand, Lampard, Gerrard and the two Coles should be finished by 2010 .Walcott, Hart, A. Young, L. Young, C. Davies, Johnson, Agbonlahor and Rooney have to step up

Congrats to Turkey
But...if you take England and Spain out, the Czechs really know how to choke in the last decade of world football.
Didn't make the 1998 and 2002 World Cup
Should have been in the 2nd Round of the 2006 World Cup
Should have been in the quarterfinals of Euro 2008
Euro 2004 was the only time they performed well.
Okay, this might be a small country with a small league(in comparison to the big 5), but they really have had some great players during that time and they should have done more than just one good tournament.

also...that announcer usually does the radio commentary(1050 AM in the DC area).
Our TV guy was doing the radio that day. Even he can be annoying("It's in the net!!!"(repeated at least 2-3 times a goal is scored)), but he's much better than Tony "disney channel voice" Limarzi.

in MLS 2008 - Week 2 Goals on Footytube.com
Even as a DC United fan, I agree it is not as good as the top flight. But at the same time, there really is a gigantic drop after Spain, England and Italy. Germany is definitely 4th and France(or Lyon's league) or Holland is in 5th.
However, at the end of it all, the game is getting better. More fans are coming to the games and it sounds like they are joining in the chanting and singing rather than bringing the whole family and making a picnic out of it. I also like how it's a bit more free flowing than in England. Yes it's a bit slower pace but at least it's more entertaining than watching.
P.S. in terms of defenders. The only descent defenders in MLS are last year's back four for Houston, Michael Parkhurst of New England, 40-yr old Claudio Suarez and Jonathan Bornstein of Chivas USA and Jimmy Conrad of Kansas City. Haven't seen Davino(Dallas' "designated player"), but the rest either meet the bare minimum(like Bobby Boswell) or are absolute crap(like Facundo Erpen). Most of the better American defenders are also in Europe right now as well(Jonathan Spector, Boca, Steve Cherundulo, Gooch, Jay DeMerit, Frank Simek, etc.)
Awesome highlight Fred, thanks for this.
My thoughts on Englands new setup..
1. No more James please. I think at this point, where qualification is no longer a concern England need to take some chances. I really think Joe Hart/Ben Foster are the future and it would be important to get them intl exp now when nothing is at stake.
2. Congrats Becks, you've had a great career but clearly you've hit the wall. You're now in the same boat as Louis Figo/Ryan Giggs, albeit MUCH less effective.. the national team no longer needs you and it's time to let guys like Bentley, SWP, Ashley Young shine.
3. I hate Peter Crouch. Why are England sitting on guys like Defoe and Ashton?
I agree with everything, however:
I'll add Green to #1. It looks like Pearce still wants Hart on the U21s, since all they have is Heaton(4th on the ManU depth chart after Van Der Sar, Foster and Kuczak) and a bunch of no namers after him.
I'll also add Agbonlahor and Young to #3 as well.
I thought England looked different, in terms of a style of play, but at the end of the day Capello needs to tell all his players from the subs bench to skyrocket their performances at the club level, because their is a gigantic talent gap after the starting XI.
Stat that states it all: England currently doesn't have a single striker with more than 10 premiership goals(Rooney 8, Defoe 9)!!!

This match proved everything wrong with Liverpool.
1. Kuyt...like the state of dutch football is ****
2. Hyypia is a geezer
3. Kewell is always injured
4. Who's Itandje?
5. Outside of Babel(trust me it's Babel), who does Liverpool have in the wings
Time for Liverpool to clearhouse like no other team in the history of English football. From the ownership, to the management to the players.

in England vs Croatia on Footytube.com
With all do respect to everyone hating Scott Carson, if I were McClaren, I would have done the same thing, but MUCH MUCH MUCH earlier, like after the Croatia away match or as late as the after the Germany friendly. You expect a goalie who only has his 3rd cap to keep his nerves together in the biggest game in England's fantastic:)) history?! This was a guy who should have had at least 3 or 4 more caps under his belt.
With that said, as everyone says, McClaren is such a duechebag. I didn't listen to 606, but let me guess, McClaren pulled another George Bush, saying "we tried hard", "endaevor", etc. What a ******!!!
But let's see who hired this guy....o I don't know...BRIAN "FACKING" BARWICK!!!! You guys should have had Scolari ever since the world cup and he blew it. A real English fan will bring the pitch forks on him and not McClaren. You watch him get Allardyce, a man who picks a English cripple over a speedy nigerian goal scoring machine every Saturday. SAME OLD ****!!!!
My top 5 managers England should pick:
1. Jose Mourinho
(brings a swagger an English Manager doesn't have)
2. Slaven Bilic
(same thing, but does it like a real man!!!)
3. Walter Smith
(will win the Scottish Title this year, and the Scots have the best crop of managers in the World)
4. Harry Redknapp
(transforms tiny clubs into big clubs, but you have to argue that has become a poor man's Arsene Wenger when it comes to English players at club level)
5. Mark Hughes
(I know this is hard to say that, considering his resume with Wales, but is taking Blackburn back to massive heights)
My 2008-2010 England Team
Carson/Green
Richards-Terry-Ferdinand-A. Cole
Bentley-Barry-Lampard-J. Cole
Rooney-Crouch
Bench:
Green/Carson
Hart
Hargraeves
Gerrard
Shorey
Lescott(but only as a right back)
Young
Agbonlahor
Walcott
Carrick
Baines
S. Taylor

James....both Hibbert and Gerrard were pulling and it turned Hibbert pulled a bit more for Gerrard to go down. Yes that was a penalty, yes Hibbert should have gotten a yellow, which Clatenburg was about to do BEFORE "THE GREATEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD" TOLD HIM TO GIVE HIBBERT A RED!!!! Watch the highlights from the link from DKO the FFFL and between 3:27-4:30 and it showed with CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE that Gerrard told Clattenburg to put down that yellow and give him a red!!!
I'll say it once and I'll say it again....THE LIVERPOOL FANS HAVE THE MEDIA ON THEIR SIDE AND THERE IS A REFREREEING BIAS FOR LIVERPOOL!!!!

Steven Gerrard...what a ****.
And to think, he's the best player in the world according to Tim Lovejoy on 606 [-(
manunited=overrated, while Gerrard was teaching Mark Clattenburg refereeing skills, Jamie Carragher was doing a near rugby tackle on Lescott and Kujt should have been sent off for that flying tackle if Phil Neville had his feet on the ground.
Seriously, there is a REFEREEING BIAS TOWARDS LIVERPOOL. Yes, Clattenburg had a terrible game as a referee and shouldn't be in any premiership game this weekend, but what about all the other referees that don't do Liverpool games that make the same amount of mistakes? You don't see them get suspensions, do ya!!! ALL LIVERPOOL FANS SHOULD BE THANKFUL THEY HAVE THE MEDIA ON THEIR SIDE....SAME THING GOES TO MANU(notice the opposition never gets a penalty at Old Trafford)

To Dan and NH,
I think you're doing a disservice to U.S. soccer. Let me remind everyone that we didn't even make it to the world cup between 1958 and 1990. The fact that you guys are mentioning that a 4-2 loss to Brazil is bad and we should get a new coach is a sign of how much expectations have improved.
To go along with what Mike was mentioning, between 2002 and 2006, what did we do after our shocking quarterfinal appearance? Nothing!!!! We just paraded around America like we are finally world beaters and proving that we are against Grenada and Bermuda and Guatemala(no offense to any of those countries). *** do you learn about your team from those games?
I think Bob Bradley is a good choice. He's at least making sure we play against strong opposition ON THE ROAD(@ Catalonia(could be cancelled) and @ Switzerland in October) and he's testing the entire player pool. However, he now has questions that need to be answered by 2010. With the lack of talent at striker since McBride's retirement, should Landon Deuchebag Donovan sit on the bench and let Jozy Altidore and/or Freddy Adu give it a go? With Oguchi Onyewu lacking form, do you give him good coaching and still believe in him or do you try out Jimmy Conrad or Jay DeMerit?
Here would be my team:
Howard
Cherundulo-DeMerit-Boca-Bornstein
Bradley-Clark-Feilhaber
Dempsey-Altidore-Beasley
Bench:
Hahneman
Guzan
Spector
Simek
Conrad
Onyewu
Mastroeni
Convey
Adu
Zizzo
Donovan
Johnson

I only watched the last 20 minutes and was just amazed that we weren't creamed!
Unfortunately, I love this guy, but it's time for Oguchi Onyewu to go. He's too slow to play in the premiership and he's too slow to play in international football. Jimmy Conrad, albeit he's 29, should get more caps. He's only good if the opposition plays a long ball game, thus making him pull WWE moves on the man he's marking.
Plus, it was soooooo obvious Bobby Convey is not fit.
Dempsey, once again proving he's America's best player.
