in Old School Friday: If My Mama Only Knew on Conversations With Marva
Happy OSF! As the state senator in The Wire would often say, 'Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit' ... I'm so ol' school that I still break out and do da Butt out on the dance floor (smile)! Great choice that brought a smile to my face.

I'm certain that I would never want my mama to hear, see or associate 2 Live Crew with her saintly son!

Happy OSF! Outkast is truly a creative crew...

I went in another direction with my OSF post this week. I invite your blog readers to consider that when the workplace is giving you the blues then it is a good time to remember this is a wonderful life!

Happy OSF! I disagree with the way that Etta spoke out against Beyonce ... however, I got no problems with her voice. The sista can SANG!

If the theme this week is the 'blues', then your blog readers should settle for nothing less than Mo' Better Blues!

in Eddy Curry, NY Knicks Player, Faces More Drama, Nova Henry, Mother of His Three-Year Old Son, Found Murdered, Along with Her Infant Daughter on Black Political Thought
This is not a good story. The death of a toddler can not have any good outcome. Eddie Curry is not a very good NBA player ... but, he keeps his career going. I have to believe that it will not be good for his career if these two murders lead to his door-step...

Eric I ask you this why do you even dare to bring it up? I mean really you have even took at the facts before you are already accusing him. Lets look at the facts people two people are dead and nobody can speak for them. Another child was covered in blood when the police found him. What does this have to do with anyone's career of basketball. If he was that bad then his employers would have fired him. But that is not what is important here rebuilding a child's life. This child lost his mother and his sister at the same time. And he saw it lets keep with the issues please!

The next 72 hours leading up to his speech at 12 noon on Tuesday are going to be remarkable. I think that there will be many tears all over America... tears of hope and joy at the prospect of our nation reclaiming its greatness...

Janet Shan Wayne, thanks for your kind words. Yes, I also don't think Eartha Kitt was
appreciated in the United States as she was in other countries. She was
blacklisted for her position on the debacle in Vietnam. NOnetheless, we have
lost a great icon, who didn't compromise her beliefs for one second.

in Chris Matthews, Post Obama Infomercial on Jack and Jill Politics
I saw Matthews go on this rant after the Obama infomercial. I appreciated his comments. They hit home to many in America as they come from a white guy. However, I worry about a broadcaster showing too much partisanship on either side. Obviously, I enjoy it more when it is pro-Obama than I do on Fox News when it is anti-Obama ... but, either way ... I think I prefer for the guests on Hardball to make the news and commentary ... and for Matthews to just ask the tough questions...

Just my thoughts...

stephanie I agree with you about broadcasters reporting the news as it is, in a non biased way. Last night, Tweety was on Keith Olberman's show to give his response as a commentator. My whole house was like "Go 'head Tweety!!" Of course, when he's on Hardball....ask the questions. But in the case of his response last night, it wasn't from an "anchor's desk" so, it was cool.
CraigHickman's picture
CraigHickman Actually, social commentary such as this isn't partisan at all. It's American. It's what journalists ought to do in the face of some of the bullshit coming out of McCain's campaign.

Matthews will probably piss me off later today when he softballs one of the racist politicians he has on his show, but we must give credit where it's due.

in Homer Taylor Jr., Recent Parolee, Tasered to Death By Chicago Police on Black Political Thought
I understand your point about the guy being a career criminal with misplaced priorities. However, my understanding is that an American citizen doesn't get the death penalty for walking down the street with an open bottle of beer.

I simply think that these incidents happen too often. Taser policy needs to change ... and the consequences of KILLING someone with a taser when the cop's life is *not* in danger should be much stronger.

peace, Villager

Janet Shan's picture
Janet Shan Wayne, I hear you and that is also an argument I made in the post. There are too many people getting seriously hurt or killed as a result of being tasered. But I am really tired of hearing the criminal's families go on about how good their relative is. If he was that good he would have made his first brush with the law his last. But I hear you and I agree with you that walking down the street does not give cops the right to just taser someone. We really don't know what truly happened with this man and I have always said that there is a brotherhood among cops and they will not squeal on one another. I am not suggesting that they did anything wrong, but experience has taught us to react this way when the cops are involved.

Sharon - You're not alone. There are too many of us that judge the book by the cover ... and too many of us concern ourselves with external things rather than looking inside.
