I have to agree. I'm only just taking a Social Media course in school and from a corporate communications point of view, it's taught me more relevant things that I need to know heading out to work than most other courses have.

Re: National Disaster Alert System

Or they could find a way of utilising Twitter for this

Re: 2nd Look: FriendFeed & RSSMeme

I got on FriendFeed after AssetBar and LinkRiver and I'm going to have to agree with you that for now, it's probably the best aggregator out there. You know another reason why I think we're one-size-fits-all that I didn't blog about, was because the journalist asked at the end if I have any "blogger friends who may want to talk to the press". I don't think she would've cared if my "blogger friend" blogged about how much detergent she uses in the wash. And to make it worse, the article was about a fairly serious issue (internet regulation), and that's not something the majority of us are into.

Re: GReader Shared Links - the new territory of self-promotion

Hey Steven, I must admit I never thought of this issue. I do share my own feeds on Google Reader, primarily because it causes it to be shared on Feedheads on Facebook. But yes, I do see how that can annoy people on FriendFeed for example. But at least here in Singapore where not many people are on it, I find that the local aggregator (ping.sg) or just GReader and Twitter work well for now. I have to say the 2.0 life is fast becoming one of my "must read" blogs on my Google Reader!

I have a slight tweak to bullet points. I think they're sometimes necessary when you really need to convey a list. Say "demographics of users (teens, 50% male, 90% own phones)" or some sort of list. There's no need to really draw a pie chart or something to demonstrate that 50% are male because just listing it up there and moving on is really the point.

What do you think?

Daryl

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - When do you know you have a community?

I know what you mean about preferring a smaller community. I don't think mine is as huge as yours, but the first 3-4 months when it was really small, I loved emailing people who commented and asking them how they came across my blog and what they liked or what they didn't. Now it's a scramble just to reply to all the comments!

Re: Free eBook on Social Media and Social Networks

Thanks for the ebook Chris! Great starting point. I'm taking a social media class this term so this will definitely be helpful.

Re: Comments and Why RSS Is Not Enough

I've been thinking about this similarly for a long time, Chris.

The biggest problems I have is when I comment on a blog and I have no idea if there are follow-ups.

One way is to just keep going back, but that's ancient technology.

The next is to get updates via emails, but it's annoying to get follow-ups on a post more than a couple of weeks old because I've moved on by then.

Of course the final is the RSS feed for the comments section, which has similar issues to subscribing via email.

Perhaps a platform similar to FriendFeed or LinkRiver for comments, or mashed together with comments might help, but I'm not sure that would 100% solve the issue.

Re: Subscription Drive

Chris,

Been subscribed for almost 2 months now and definitely in my A-List on Google Reader.

I blog at http://uniquefrequency.wordpress.com and it's focused on new/social media but there's some traditional media stuff in there too. At least here in Singapore, there's certainly been a decline in activity over the last 3-6 months.

Re: Twitter in the Classroom

I think Twitter can be used by 6th graders for sure, but more importantly, college students need to learn how this can be useful! Google should have just kept their mouth shut. I honestly don't think they much (if anything) to worry about from Microhoo. Even if it does go through, the months they'll take to sort out all the paperwork is more than enough for Google to pull out a project or two and gain even more market share of the web.

Re: Marketing Over Coffee crosses 1,000 daily listeners

Congrats! 1,000 is a great number!
