But they don't want to stir things up, at least not yet. Congress also knows a debate on US foreign policy is not taking place. But in a democracy it is sometimes necessary to let things get so bad that there is an emergency. What will the US do for instance when the cost of import triples? Or when meney market funds start losing value because they are full of defaulted money market instruments that are not guaranteed by the FDIC?
