I read Ginger's article the same day I listened to Friction on EscapePod. Together they left me stunned. Ginger reminds us that compassion means "suffering with." An attribute that seems impossible to attain (he says as he fall into the perfection trap) and is only approached by knowing the Master and sacrificing self.

I thought your regulars would jump all over this. But since not, here's my 2 cents worth.
I like the first paragraph. It hooks the reader with intrigue and keeps him off balance with the incomplete sentences, short and long. Together this says (to me) something is wrong here. I stumbled a bit on the non- parallel words "unhurried" and "relentless." How can it be both? How can they even tell it's moving if it's 3 days away? More hooks?
The second and third paragraphs are less satisfying to me personally, but I'd keep reading on the strength of the first.

You hooked me with...
in a culdesac. Fran's weekend work bought the wrought iron fence, each bar topped with a bulbous spike.
There's a whole novel in that one line. But I have to ask, where did this come from?

I find myself wanting to defend God, but he hasn't told me what to say either. Perhaps he's not talking. Perhaps he's not talking to me? Perhaps he's talking and I am not listening. Perhaps he's not talking because I'm not listening.
But still, I hope. It's better for me than the alternative.
