Momma told me when I was a boy...you can not please everyone, so I NEVER try. The point about the forums is only PARTIALLY true. You actually COULD get to the forums all weekend, and I pointed to them right here...

http://3rdpoblogs.com/colderice/2009/02/22/i-am...

In reality the forums were only DOWN officially on Monday. However, you COULD get to them all weekend, if you dared to go past the warning.

So I give you partial credit and him partial credit. That was NOT a hill I thought was that important to "fight on"...he already admitted that ALL communication was weak and that was very reason why he called me.

My honest opinion is that I did not feel that he was "blaming sellers", but I may need to re-listen and see. To me, he seemed to be saying that they DID what they "thought" was best. I really wanted to know WHY we did not get any email till Monday! That was my BIG issue and he knew that was B.S.

I am not a person to kick a man that has humbled himself to speak with me on MY terms, that is just not in my nature EVER. I always let a person have an out, that builds trust in them and character in you. I like to "do unto others as I would hope they would do unto me" if tables were turned.

Another thing Momma said...The "arse" you KICK on the way up is the same "arese" you KISS on the way down. It has served me well in life.

Re: You Are Invited to The Twitter Party: How This Tool Is Used By ColderICE

Magisterrex, then you and I are on the same page. If someone reaches out to you in a Direct Message on Twitter and you blow it off, that COULD BE construed as rude.

Definition via WikiPedia...Rudeness (also called impudence or effrontery) is the disrespect and failure to behave within the context of a society or a group of people's social laws or etiquette.

Give you a true story...I reached out to MC Hammer, who follows me and we have had a few back and forth conversations. After 2 days of no replay, I tapped him again.

So Hammer then replies back and said "My bad, I got 10,000 people following and thousands of DM's come in daily so sometimes even the DM's fall out too"

I guess with Twitter, I just can understand that I won't take it personally knowing that most likely it is not a direct diatribe against me personally. Plus I don't think that fundamentally there should be "laws" that govern the use of Twitter, unless it is agreed on by all parties.

Re: Do You Do Business on eBay? That is just freakin' STUPID and it is not my opinion here. The policy is just plain stupid. Stupid is as stupid does. eBay has got a stupid policy for CBT. That is the real key to this post.

I want ALL that read this to understand, this is NOT telling you to stop CBT. So there are many conditions that must be factored in when deciding between hosted vs self-hosted.

I plan on fleshing that comparison out at a later time for a new post. As a matter of fact, Scott Pooler hosts his site (http://allbusinessauctions.wordpress.com/) on WORDPRESS' free .com for this very reason.

There is a bump in traffic, ranking, and list positioning you get simply because you are a Wordpress.com blog. That is ACTUALLY why the do not want advertising on those blogs. If they were full of ads, then Google would not rank them so high. Just an FYI...

The one caveat to "keeping juice" can be in owning the URL and using a redirect to the FREE site which you can do with a .com blog site. That too is what I did with ColderICE.com, I owned the URL so when I did move it to a .org site, that URL had some history too it. Google CONSTANTLY updates site rankings so nothing is really sacred.

John

Re: Welcome Zappos to YOUR Listings…eBay WTF Are U Doing To Us?!?

Why would you post as "corp America" instead of Zappos, since your IP address says Zappos.com?

That is odd?!?

john

Re: Attention eBay Shoppers! Well to put that in plain english, the answer is...To win and beat the competition at customer service, the seller/vendor has to "give a sh*t!"

If the seller is focused on self and NOT the buyer, someone else can WIN that customer who was poorly treated by the seller that really did not give a crap that the buyers package never arrived.

Does that mean being a doormat? Because they PAID him. Vendors PAY for delivery services so in essence, the delivery service "works" for the vendor and as such IS the vendors hired contractor. The responsibility still lies with the seller. That argument would get an eye roll from Judge Judy, LMAO.

Legally, the vendor is SOLELY responsible for the delivery of any package. Now, as a vendor, you can make YOUR claim with the post office for a lost item. So we do have possible recourse as well. But you can NOT pass that off to the buyer to handle, that is not customer service.

Re: Don’t Be a JERK! “Well I Shipped It”… WTH? I can not answer your question because it is TOO relative. However if a customer has a package that has gone missing, I make it OUR POLICY to take ownership of ALL missing packages. That is MY POLICY and it works for ME.

As it relates to the "I shipped it" as you laid out in your response above, unfortunately that has NEVER been a valid response for Paypal, Google or the major credit card companies, when challenged. In our experience, the ONLY acceptable method of proof has been DELIVERY CONFIRMATION and not simple proof of shipment. Also with many of the credit card companies they can sometime request signature proof of delivery before they will release fund that have been challenged.

Of course that is just MY OBSERVATION and it is very possibly that you are more of an authority than I am on this topic. I only speak to my experiences and although my experience on this topic is vast, with over 66,000 positive reviews from eBay customers, you could certainly have a different set of experiences.

Having gone through all of this, I hope you don't miss the point of the ACTUAL topic which is...DON'T BE A JERK to your customers, or they will NOT BE YOURS for long. That is the actual topic of the post.

Re: Let’s Play A Game…Can You Name This Childhood Starlet?

Hey Lisa you are CORRECT! Completely random and that is the only qualification. No indication or differentiation is made by volume of shopping or habits.

As for your question on Paypal, there is no answer. They did not ask them that question. However I will make this comment, only 5% of our online shoppers use Paypal on our website. Would they use Paypal IF there was no other option?!? I don't know.

However, as a consumer, I like options personally. If a site does not have my preferred payment method outside of Paypal or Google Checkout I do not consider that vendor to be at "real"entity.

Visa and Master Card (formally BankAmericard and Master Charge) have been around since I was BORN! That speaks to the validity of a online business and its trustworthiness IMHO. Anyone can have a Paypal account, few go the extra mile to establish a vendor account with the "big boys". I thing that should be considered when choosing payment options for your business.

So would these people abandon cart? I do not know, BUT I personally would not even begin shopping if all a retailer accepts is just Paypal. You know I have a critical eye, so that could be just some consumers. I know that a business must take the extra measures to qualify for a merchant account.

Given a choice on a site (Paypal or Visa/MC) that I do not know there is a nice choice to use Pp since I do not share personal info with that vendor. But given a site with ONLY Paypal makes me somewhat suspicious.

GOOD QUESTION!

john

Re: Why eBay’s DSR + Best Match System Turns Off "REAL" Businesses

Gosh Henrietta, you make WAY TOO MUCH SENSE!!! Images are your MOST important component of selling on eBay. Without an image your items do not sell. If there are outages on these hosts, you can get over listings not posting for a while. But having all your images go down at once can kill sales completely. Also had folks separated their images from the posting provider they would have avoided the Auctiva Virus scare earlier this year.

HOWEVER, I must URGE all of you to have BACKUPS of every single image in your own in-house file. DO NOT DEPEND on these platforms for your pictures without having a backup. The most time consuming thing about making sales online is the pictures. Keep a local copy, storage is extremely cheap and all PC's have at the very least a CD burner so space is unlimited to keep a full copy of all your pictures.

John

Re: Hey Buddy Can You Spare a Dime or 12 Cents? : Auctiva Ask Sellers to Cough Up!

Thanks for the size correction. You know us guys and sizes, LMAO. Although the size of picture storage in the age of unlimited photo storage all over the web should not be a true factor. No eBay has to pay EVER for picture storage. That really is a unnecessary expense in calculation in 2009.

john (ColderICE)

Re: Vendio "Doubles Down" to Offer FREE Services to Former Auctiva Users…WTF? MANY of the big boys of internet advertising (affiliates) saw their model for eBay links dry up, not just Auctiva. This was a fundamental change to the ePN program and those who follow the news of it in blogs/posts/etc. were very much impacted by the changes made in Sept. 2008.

The "pitchfork crowd" that want to pro port nefarious activity by Auctiva IMHO have a hidden agenda. Not that having an agenda is wrong (we all have them) but be transparent about it if you have one :-)

During my personal research on this issue (round tripping), I found numerous income streams by legitimate affiliates interrupted by this ePN change and NONE of those were violators of eBay rules at the time. That is why I will stick to the position that Auctiva had been in compliance and that the rules changed the game for them. Unless you or anyone else can PROVE otherwise, I think I will stick with my own research.

I am HAPPY to entertain any evidence you or others have to the contrary, but again I see you did not sign the post with a NAME which leads me to believe...HIDDEN AGENDA!

But I am an X-Files fan so I know "the truth is out there"

Re: John Donahoe Has "Costco Envy", He Wants To ENLARGE eBay’s Bargains

Gary, I doubt that move seriously would even be considered. Yes, I agree this helps Paypal/eBay but that in my opinion does NOT discount the fact that it is a capability that is IMPORTANT for transaction security.

We are SELLERS and what is good for us, is NOT necessarily good for buyers and vise versa. Lets take eBay OUT OF THE TEST completely. Then lets just look at the results of 2 sales in 6 months on Bonanzle, OK?

So basically you are saying that it is MY FAULT that Bonanzle has ZERO traffic and does ZERO marketing?!? Ok, so on Bonazle, you (the seller) must drive the traffic to THEIR site so you can make sales. Hmmm, now the issue gets even BIGGER, my question is this...

If I am going to...

1) Set up an Google Base submission
2) Submit my URL to search
3) Submit my RSS feed

Why in the world do I need Bonanzle? What is the "value add" that Bonanzle brings to the equations? I am NOT being funny, I am really wanting to know what I am missing here? Cause it always comes back in my mind of, why not just set up my own eCommerce webstore and get ALL the benefits of branding myself?

Honestly, your argument may be PROVING my test instead of disclaiming it?!? Why pay transaction fees and set up feeds to drive traffic to a MALL when you can drive traffic to your own STORE?

Thanks, John

Re: Autobot vs. Decepticons: Create An Ecommerce Webstore in 5 Minutes

Thanks Tom, I will put that into the coffers and see what we can come up with for you.

John

Re: I Got A Few Things To Sell: The eBay FP30 vs. Bonanzle Booth MythBusters Challenge

OK, so yeah...eBay is a Cadillac (older model, LMAO) and Bonazle is '2009 VW Bug...I get that. You are 1000% correct, comparing the two could be considered Apples to Oranges.

Just remember, I was comparing the all NEW (at the time) eBay Fixed-Price 30, which was rather untested waters and unproven, so that was really the basis of the testing for me. I needed to simply know which one would convert without any extra "work" and those were the results.

I in NO WAY was trying to set up a 'bogus' test to make eBay come out as favorable. I think people have felt that was my intention?!? But actually I honestly thought eBay would lose! (based on all the Bonanzle hype I was reading and hearing) So the result were shocking to me really.

John

Re: Autobot vs. Decepticons: Create An Ecommerce Webstore in 5 Minutes

Well Vince, you know I do have a "shock jock" persona sometimes...LMAO. According to Forbes.com Elvis Presley continues to top the list of dead celebrities for 2008.

Elvis estate was worth approximately $1 million dollars the day he died. However, last year The KING's estate raked in $52 Million and that dude died in the 70's. Compare that number to Justin Timberlake or Madonna both pulled in around $40-45 million in the same year!

Tupac Shakur died way back in 1996 and his estate pulled in a whopping $12 million. And he was "just a rapper"

Take Marvin Gaye, who lands in 13th place on the Forbes list this year, with earnings of $3.5 million. Gaye had a great year. Coinciding with Motown Records' 50th birthday, two major studios have announced upcoming Marvin Gaye biopics, and some of his classic albums have been remastered and re-released.

Both John Lennon and George Harrison make the list as well as racing superstar Dale Earnhardt. Iconic staples like Marily Monroe and James Dean continue to rake in about $5 million every year.

There is NO such thing as "crash" only CASH ;-) This machine from Micheal Jackson could most likely top ALL of them!

John

Re: Let The eBay Rumor Games Begin! I would like to answer you on two points you raised:

#1 This is NOT personal (about Ina, cause I love and respect her)

#2 I am NOT trying to "down her"

I asked a simple question. Does SPECULATION add or subtract trust. It is a VERY timely question since speculation runs rapid in the markets and can negativity effect healthy stock. And I am reminded that speculators where the reason why we paid $4.50 for a gallon of gas less than two years ago.

So I position this as a question simply about speculation and its effects. TMZ? Well come on, they make good press ;-) cause you have to write in extremes to make good copy, LOL

john

Re: Could Michael Jackson ACTUALLY “Heal The World”

Yeah, I agree whole heartedly. The ability to move collectibles is an area YOU RULE in, thanks for the insite. Retail? Is just getting started. What has happened for the past 3 weeks is that Michael has OUTSOLD every other artist for 3 weeks straight at #1 on Billboard, while maintaining 4-6 slots of the top selling albums by volume.

These are completely un-counted revenue for these music chains. Plus you have both tribute concerts as well as the This Is It Show with over 100 hours of footage of his last performance. Top those with merchandising and sponsorships? That a LOT of cash flowing into an economy that was "dead". Consumers ARE spending money on Micheal, could that jog the spending of other corporations that harness this Michael stuff?

How many people will become employed to manage to tour? The merchandising? The shipping of stuff? What about the gift market around Christmas for fans? WOW...I could see this impacting bottom lines for several corporations this year. Of course it could be the Scotch :-)

thanks, John

Re: The Future of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

So cool that you asked. Some people will read these posts and watch vids or interviews and just let stuff like industry vocabulary go completely over their head. We are very similar in that we ask the question. Screw the old saying about "it is better to be thought a fool..."

Verticalization is market segmentation by industry or anything really. (thats the short version LOL)

The basics of vertical marketing is a strategy well known to B2B (business to business) direct marketers, who often use precisely targeted direct mail lists to reach specific individuals with specific job titles who work in companies of a specific size within specific industries.

John

Re: Gary Vaynerchuk - I had a wild day, you? I subscribe to your email feed (and I only do it to 2 people and you are ONE)

I had no IDEA that you were the same guy when I was at StomperNet Sunday. I had the camera crew meeting me for the David Bullock interview and they called right when you were getting into the GOOD STUFF!!!

I am pissed that I did not get to see and hear the rest of your presentation. DUDE you are my hero! And the funny thing is, I did not even know you were the same guy until I got to this story today and put 2 & 2 together. Damn it, LOL.

But I just want to tell you how cool you are, how good your blog is, and how regretful I am to have had to leave right in the middle of your talk. I am going to kick Bullock's butt for making me miss it :-)

John (ColderICE)

Re: It’s The Whine Seller’s 1 Month Anniversary!

Con-Grat-U-Freakin-Lations!

Re: Twitter’s Qwitter: Do you care who quits you?

I am WAY more interested in who stays than who goes.
