You know after some time in June Microsoft will count every XP install as a Vista install, right? A few months after that, Microsoft will declare victory, and the MS-beholden press will ballyhoo this "victory" far and wide.

It doesn't say anything about leprosy. It doesn't say that much bad about Vista. It says that developers aren't developing for the Vista-only APIs because they want their stuff to run on the large base of installed XP. It is another potential trouble spot for Vista and appears to show that whatever new features Vista has, they're not compelling for users OR developers.

IMHO the money quote is "Microsoft tends to dump ten new technologies on us, but only 2 or 3 really stick," said ... a guy at... a Microsoft-focused 20-developer firm... citing the Windows DNA Architecture as an example.

Microsoft investors should be very afraid. A new future is being realized (Google, Apple, Fake Steve Jobs) and Microsoft will not be controlling it.

Well, since there are shitty, cheap PCs, I supposed some people considering switching to a Mac might stay with the PC, during a downturn. While I might defer buying a new machine, if I'm an Apple user, I'm damn sure not going to switch to a PC to save money.

I don't think there's going to be a recession, anyway.

I'm one of the freetards and there's nothing free to compare to Final Cut, Logic, Photoshop et al. That's not to say the Internet isn't built on free software!

Open source is great where stuff is well defined and you can basically mathematically prove the righteousness of your update, but it's like a committee coming up with a logo -- given enough participants, they'll always come up with a blue rectangle.
