in Movie Notes: Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls on Webomatica
Glad you enjoyed it.
I have to say that, as the submitter of this entry, I'm not a huge Russ Meyers fan overall. He made a ton of movies, and even though they share many characteristics with this one, I find most of them boring and almost unwatchable. The notable exceptions are this movie and "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" (Faster Pussycat isn't available on DVD, but Turner Classic Movies will be showing it on September 4th at 12:30am PT. Set your Tivos)
As a follow-up to the contest, it might be interesting to discuss what separates "bad" movies from "so-bad-they're-good" movies. Just because a movie has a bad script, bad actors, and bad direction doesn't necessarily make it fun (or funny). So what's the "x-factor" that keeps us watching?

in Second Webomatica Contest: Bad / Good Movies on Webomatica
I'm something of a connoisseur of this type of film, so narrowing down the choices has been a challenge. For the purposes of this contest, I have to go with Russ Meyer's Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls. I've watched this movie at least once a year for the last 20 years. I still shake my head in wonder.

in Movie Notes: The Island Of Dr. Moreau on Webomatica
The Island of Dr. Moreau is one of my all-time favorite books. Anyone even remotely interested in the themes of the movie should give it a read. In fact, don't stop there; read everything by H.G. Wells.
The 1933 movie "Island of Lost Souls" with Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi is a much better telling of the story than the Brando film. That said, I love the Brando version... mainly because it's soooo crazy. I saw it in the theatres when it was first released, and I'll never forget how dumbfounded I was by the cinematic freakshow that was unfolding before me.
A last bit of trivia: The "genetic scientist" character on South Park is based on Brando's Moreau. He even has a tiny mutant sidekick.

in Questioning NoFollow on Webomatica
While I agree that nofollow doesn't make much sense for a blog with actively filtered/moderated comments, I don't think there's anything necessarily evil about it. It seems like the SEO community are the ones making the biggest fuss about nofollow, as it makes comment spam a much less effective tool to game the search engines with. I'm not quite sure why anyone else should have an issue with it.

in A Peek At My RSS Reader on Webomatica
Like you, I settled on NetNewsWire Lite after trying all the others. But I really missed the smart folders of NewsFire. If you want to follow a few specific subjects intermittently covered in a wide range of feeds, they're really indispensable. So I bit the bullet and shelled out for NetNewsWire (non-lite). Worth every penny. Now I have smart lists + flagging + sync between machines. Heaven.
That being said, I really want to love Google Reader. There are so many things I like about it, but the interface is still too darn slow for my tastes. Still, it's fun to play with as my 'casual' feed reader.

in Site Traffic And The Steady Paycheck on Webomatica
While I agree that the vast majority of people who visit a site via Digg will never visit again (unless it's dugg again), don't underestimate its longterm value. A popular Digg story can generate hundreds of back-links from other websites to yours, which, in turn, can significantly improve your ranking in the various search engines. And good search rankings are key to delivering a steady stream of new visitors to your site. Getting one or two stories on Digg's front page can pay dividends for months (if not years) to come.
I don't advocate writing specifically for the Digg crowd, but anyone serious about building their site's traffic shouldn't completely ignore them, either.

Wow... Who knew there were so many France Gall videos on YouTube? They even have Laisse Tomber Les Filles, the original version of Chick Habit. I've probably watched every Serge Gainsbourg video on YouTube, but never thought to search for France Gall. Thanks for the link.

Couldn't agree with you more. While France Gall was never well-known in the US, several of her early albums were re-released on CD here a few years ago. I found them at the Virgin Megastore on Market for $9.99 each in 2004. There's no reason they shouldn't be on the iTunes Store. Surprisingly, very little of her music is available on the French or German iTunes store either (where she was actually a star in the 60s and 70s). And even if her entire catalog of music was available on the French store, American customers wouldn't be allowed to buy it.
Until the record companies all get on board, and international barriers are erased, legal downloading will never have a chance to surpass file-sharing in the marketplace.

in Music Notes: April March, Chick Habit on Webomatica
Great pick! I bought Chick Habit when it was first released and it's been one of my favorite CDs ever since. If you like April March, be sure to check out the French pop singer she's heavily inspired by, France Gall. Gall's 1960's recordings are très fun.

"While the Nike+iPod Sports Kit costs $29, let’s not forget to factor in the specialized Nike shoes which costs $100+."
I've posted a shoe mod on http://podophile.com that lets you use the Nike+iPod Kit with non-Nike running shoes. It's quick and easy and works very well... and doesn't damage your shoe. Step by step guide plus photos.
