Therefore, you're limited to trying to shorten them as much as possible.

One way is to use up the adrenaline in your system by exercising until you feel calmer. Most people lie down, and this is counterproductive.

Another is by trying to meditate, but this works only if you are good enough at it to block out your physical symptoms. This is hard for most people.

Realizing that they are a 'false alarm' helps keep you mentally calm.
References :

Re: the symptoms of panic attacks are dizziness, hot flushes etc?

I have suffered from panic attacks for over 8 years now. They can be provoked by circumstances/situations or just come on without warning or reason. I have not had hot flushes. I become very frantic...pounding heart, shaking hands, irrational thinking, sweaty palms, spontaneous hiccups, crying and/or agitation, rapid breathing ( which can lead to light headedness if I don't get my breathing stablized). They really happen. There is nothing imagined about it. It is frightening and difficult to take control of.
References :

Re: http://gitzengirl.blogspot.com/2009/02/speaking-of-haircuts.html

Riley is just too cute!!! Having both in the political race can only be positive. It should (but probably won't, see below) change the discussion from race to issues and display the diversity that can be found on both sides of the aisle. I welcome her entering the race. I have not always agreed with her but I do respect her and her accomplishments.

But first the cable news anchors and pundits will fumble on how to spin this. I gave it 4 hours after the announcement of Rice as McCain's running before the first person says "Condi isn't considered Black by most Black voters so it will not help the Republican ticket" which will lead to discussions of what it means to be Black. I can't wait to hear the Fox, CNN, MSNBC opinion on that topic. Gary will go for him, but there are still the outlying suburbs. This is such a nail-biter. I grew up in the 80's so I saw a lot of firsts in the areas of entertainment, media, business, sports and happily assumed that this country was moving toward the "American Dream" for all citizens. But, I am also a student of history and and in tune reality so part of me was skeptical that there would be a black candidate within the next few generations that I, not to mention people across all demographics, could and would support ( sorry Jessie, Al, Lenora, Carol and Alan, I just wasn't feelin' ya). I get chills thinking that this is happening just 40 or so years after my parents experienced segregation daily as an accepted practice. I wish my grandfather who raised his family in a small Southern town instilling in all his children that education is a requirement not an option and success will be achieved no matter the challenges could be alive today to see what is happening, today. He would be so proud. I an so proud. I am so happy.

Re: Tuesday Open Thread: What’s Up, People?

Tubbs-Jones makes me upset. Every time she is on
I end up calling my sister and saying "is she kidding, is she delusional, what do the Clinton's have on her?" It's not so much that she supports Clinton, a lot of people do, so that's not the odd thing. It's the lengths she goes to spin situations that makes me so frustrated. She is so happy read the script hoping to move the goal post as if she never heard that Michigan and Florida were out of play, never considered the importance of the delegate count and happily downplays large diverse states that went for Obama because they did not vote for Clinton (well she actually says they aren't important in a general election unlike the pro-Hillary states). And okay I do have a problem with Tubby-J coming out talking about how important West Virginia is and how Hillary will take it right after Clinton's whole hard working white American and uneducated white Americans (I'm paraphrasing) comments were made. It didn't feel right. But to each there own. If she didn't seem like she were a Clinton puppet I would like her more, but I feel like I haven't heard any of her own true views, just Clinton sound-bites, throughout this election.

Re: Tuesday Open Thread: What’s Up, People?

Just so you all know Terry "I'm Looking for a Book Deal" McAuliffe just said the Hillary will be giving one of the greatest speeches EVER tonight. No disrespect WV, but you know it is one of the poorest, if not the poorest, least educated, most homogenetic states in the country. I'd like to think this is not the state that represents the pulse of the US. Obama's received nearly 17 million; I'm slightly ahead. Those 34 million people, they will end up voting for the Democrat because there is no reason why they should want to continue the failed policies of George Bush.

Couric: When you give those numbers you're including Florida and Michigan?

Clinton: Of course. Because those were legitimate certified elections that were legal and valid, and people actually exercised their right to vote. The only dispute is how do they get the delegates out of those votes?

Couric: And I've raised this with you before, Sen. Clinton, but Barack Obama's name wasn't even on the ballot in Michigan.

Clinton: Well, that was his choice. He didn't have to take his name off. There was no rule requiring that he took his name off. But he did run, along with his supporters, a very vigorous campaign to get people to vote uncommitted. So he had a presence there, even though his name wasn't on the ballot.

and

Couric: After your victory in Pennsylvania, you mentioned super delegates a minute ago, after your victory in Pennsylvania, Barack Obama won, so far, the commitment of 57 super delegates. You've netted 15. Aren't things trending his way in the super delegate department?

Clinton: Well, I think we both have been picking up super delegates. I think that will continue. But I go back …

Couric: But he's gotten 57, Senator, and you've gotten 15.

Clinton: Well, but I go back to the basic point. The game isn't over. The elections aren't over. No buzzer has sounded. We have to get to 2,210 delegates and then we'll have a nominee. And, until we get there, we're not likely to know who that nominee will be.

and my favorite:

Couric: Your campaign is … $20 million in debt. With five more contests to go where will you get the money?

Clinton: Oh, well, we're getting contributions as we speak. People have been incredibly generous. You know, I have raised more money than anyone ever running in a primary election, except for my opponent.

Re: Johnny "Come Lately" Edwards To Endorse Democratic Nominee

Craig, isn't he from South Carolina? I know she is lying. I know she is desperate. I am afraid that other people don't see it and actually believe her shit. Otherwise intelligent people are appearing on show after show reciting the same soundbites as Clinton about popular vote, MI and FL and when anyone asks them a question they recite the script. A lot look a little dead inside like Clinton has something on them and they are forced to spew the bull (except for Tubbs-Jones she looks like she actually believes what she is saying and is happy to say it). If you say things over and over people are likely to believe it. My biggest fear is that they actually go into the May 31st meeting and they actually seat the damn delegates. I know Dean and Co. are smarter then that, or should be smarter then that but my God 10 more days of of people reciting the same speech and they might just give in. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Re: Hillary Clinton LIES - SHE IS NOT AHEAD IN THE POPULAR VOTE

Keith Oberman is great:

As John Brown led the raid on Harpers Ferry... As Elizabeth Cady Stanton read the Declaration of Sentiments at Seneca Falls... As Martin Luther King led marchers to the County Courthouse in Selma... So, too... in our fifth story on the Countdown... did Hillary Rodham Clinton today rally to the cause of the 10,000 elderly residents of Century Village in Boca Raton, Florida. Hey! All that is Senator Clinton's analogy -- not mine.

Re: Hillary Clinton LIES - SHE IS NOT AHEAD IN THE POPULAR VOTE

Does anyone watch The Office? Hillary's crusade for justice for the Florida vote reminds me of the episode where Michael starts the Foundation to Find a Cure for Rabies (bringing it back home for ya rikyrah). Basically he tries to raise money through a phone campaign and a "fun run". Except no one could understand why he was putting so much effort into finding a cure for something that kills "over one person a year". It's basically another example of how out of touch with reality he is. And that is how out of touch with reality Hillary is..

Chris Matthews compared Hillary's new found fight for the disinfranchised voters to that of a celebrity taking on a pet cuse (like rabies). He was interviewing the mayor of Tampa who basically said, sure it sucks that the votes won't count but we knew that going in so it's to late to make changes to the rules in this election cycle but we can fix it for next time. A Clinton talking head said blah, blah, blah, blah disinfranchisecakes and complained that Obama gave a speech in Florida and didn't even address how to seat the delegates of the and how disrespectful that was to the voters. To which the Mayor of Tampa said she was there with 20,000 people that were excited about Obama's vision for the future as he heads toward the general election. The people she saw people really weren't thinking about the past and weren't really worried about seating the delegates. Clinton talking head glared at the camera.

What I do find funny is that while Obama was speaking to 20,000 enthusiastic people in Tampa, Clinton was speaking to 10,000 in a retirement community in Boca, and if you saw the speech the guy on the back right is not long for the world.

Hillary really, has it come to this?

Re: Hillary Clinton LIES - SHE IS NOT AHEAD IN THE POPULAR VOTE

texas girl in l.a.

I'll do a virtual shot with you.

Re: Hillary Clinton LIES - SHE IS NOT AHEAD IN THE POPULAR VOTE

What's Right...

I'm sure it was made clear to anyone paying enough attention to politics prior to casting their vote for the democratic nominee that the vote wouldn't count in the primary. At the time I don't recall much complaining. Since elections rarely cover one issue there may have been other iniatives on the ballot that brought those 1.7 mil out to vote that day and in the process seeing an option of voting for the dem nominee they chose to fill in the blank with the name they knew. An equal or sizable amount of people may have stayed home because their only motivation to vote in the first place was the dem nomination. So now someone wants to change the rules to count people who voted knowing there vote wouldn't count toward the primary and, to barrow a word from Ms. Clinton, disinfranchise those who stayed home because they were told their vote wouldn't count? Sounds fishy to me. Sounds like Clinton may have planned this from the beginning. Maybe she was purposely trying to keep people from the polls and then later, if the results turned out in her favor fight to get the delegates seated.

Sound like a stupid theory? It's about as stupid a theory as Clinton and her supporters actually gave a crap about Florida until she was losing.

Re: Hillary Clinton LIES - SHE IS NOT AHEAD IN THE POPULAR VOTE

And didn't Hillary give a speech after she "won" Michigan? I don't recall see said anything about the importance of seating the delegates at that time. No passioned plea to the DNC.

I will not vote for Hillary if she wins the nomination. She is a lying, manipulative psycho. HOT STUFF!

Anyway gang, I just read something remarkable. "Remarkable" as in, "It is remarkable that my eyeballs are still in my head after reading that."

In an interview with the editorial board of the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader today, Hillary Clinton brought up Bobby Kennedy's June, 1968 assassination as an argument against her dropping out of the Democratic primary.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

She has a point: June is a great month for political assassinations.

Why drop out of the race before all the assassins have had their say?

After all, we know Barack Obama has received multiple death threats -- because he is black, of course, and because some of our fellow citizens think he's a secret Muslim terrorist who is going to take the oath of office on the Koran and make us all pray to Mecca five times a day with that screechy music coming over the loudspeakers(?) and then he'll fly Air Force One into the White House(?).

And the truth is, Obama has consistently failed to win over those voters who want to see him murdered.

Re: Clinton Staying in Race In Case Obama is Assassinated

She's getting lit up over at Daily Kos. To just focus on one point of view would be a disservice to our races and the others that tune in.

So while I respect the poster who wrote:

The right-wing conservatives have been trying to a least a decade to chip away at the black voting bloc to try and persuade some of us to vote Republican, even if it is against our own self-interest, by appealing to the selfishness of the me, me, me that is so prevalent in the Republican Party.

I think having a channel where black people on both sides discuss their positions will get us past accepting such absolutes for our race. I am not defined by Al Sharpton or Michael Steele but I think both arguments should be heard.

And if they could get Condi in a debate with Tubbs-Jones, I would love it.

Re: DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee Meeting Open Thread

What the well was Athena Joyner babbling about? He will make compromises and work with many different groups but this should not be a shock because he is running on a theme of change and inclusion. And his past work in Chicago with underprivileged people in Chicago should not be forgotten. It was not part of a grand plan to get him to this point and then disown everything he has stood for. He is not an Uncle Tom. He is not throwing anyone under the bus, and, specific to this thread, he is not disparaging TUCC who he praised during his press conference right now.

I

Re: The Obamas Leave Trinity

Duh...people please stop with that. It's always you are black so you must be a Democrat.

But why?

I'm not a big fan of social programs. I am Catholic. I have strong family values. I don't believe in divorce. I believe a child raised in a home with two parents is better then one. I'm a military brat, have tremendous respect for our men and woman in uniform and think that this country should have big defense organization. However I think we should get the hell out of Iraq and knowing what I know now I don't think we should have ever gone in. But I admit in the beginning I was cheering the war. Yep, I feel stupid for that one.

The Republican party aligns with a lot of my interests and beliefs, although not all of them. If the Republican party thought they had a chance to win a significant part of the black community then voices would be heard. If the Democrats thought they would lose a significant part of the black community then voices would be heard.

And I always hear, Republicans don't like black people. I don't think Republicans are any more racists then Democrats, we can see that from this election. Hell, the Clinton's are the ones that are suppose to be down with us so imagine what everyone else is thinking. I'm not sure where that argument started but it's pointless. Some people are just idiots and they come in all shapes, sizes and affiliations..

At the end of the day I vote for the best candidate and right now I think that is Obama. I disagree with some of his policies and am dreading my taxes going up but the war is a big issue for me so I'll suck it up. Pat has been off and on MSNBC for 24 hours strait. He must be really riled up by this nomination. Oh well, nothing he can say will take away the fact that Obama is the first black man to be a major party nominee for the President of the United States of America.

Oh and Joe's back! Bob Johnson is strongly urging the CBC to urge Obama to pick Hillary as his VP. What the hell is wrong with him? Why would Obama even listen to anything he says after his suggestions of Obama spending his time in Chicago on drugs instead of working with the community? And if the CBC takes this seriously then I am just so...ughhh.

I'm not saying all black people must be all about Obama but let's face it this is a historical moment. He can also be a whinny prima-donna. Sure there were african americans in Iwo Jima but the movie is about the men who rose the flag. Spike should make a movie about the blacks who served vs. criticizing another great filmmakers work. Not everything is about black people and although it would be nice, not everyone is concerned about making the black population or any other group happy when they are putting forth there work.

And Courtney Hazlett said something offensive probably without realizing it but she is not stupid. She's a Columbia grad whose worked in journalism for a while. Malcolm thought it was essential for blanks to have the freedom to pursue their dreams and talents however they chose and believed it was only available through economic independence, not dependence. He also criticized the irrational tossing of the black vote to the Democratic Party without any benefits in return.

I linked the article because I love and respect the varied thought on this site. I don’t know if the caption writer was making a lame attempt to be hip, clueless about the original etymology of the phrase, or both. But I do know that it was Michelle Obama herself who referred to Barack as her “baby’s daddy” and has used the phrase “baby daddy” to describe Barack while on the stump this year.

Here’s how she introduced him during his Senate victory speech on Nov. 2, 2004:

MICHELLE OBAMA, WIFE OF BARACK OBAMA: My baby’s daddy Barack Obama. Meanwhile, his GOP opponent, Arizona Sen. John McCain, has admitted that his wife not only illegally used drugs but walked away from criminal charges. The McCains have worked to make Cindy McCain's addiction into a political asset-despite the fact that she stole the drugs from a charity she directed and used them while mothering four young children.

In 1994, Mrs. McCain admitted that she had solicited prescriptions for painkillers from physicians who worked for an international charity that she founded, the American Voluntary Medical Team. She then filled the prescriptions in the names of her staff.

There are two ways to react to this behavior. According to the Betty Ford model, people can sympathetically respond to the oppressed and ignored wife of a busy politician who has bravely come forward to admit her overpowering addiction. Mrs. McCain took this posture when she first tearfully confessed her addiction. She and her husband repeated this performance in October, 2000, on the NBC program "Dateline."

The other possible public reaction is one of anger. Americans are prosecuted every day for such drug use. While most drug abusers purchase their drugs from street dealers, Mrs. McCain used her status as a charity director and senator's wife to cajole the drugs she wanted.

In fact, Mrs. McCain was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration after the agency was approached by a former staff member of her charity. The investigation resulted in no charges or prison time for her, and she entered a diversion program. While these records were not made public at the time, Mrs. McCain eventually confessed her drug use when she learned that a reporter was investigating the story.

Is Mrs. McCain to be judged as a pitiable victim or as a criminal felon? This debate is at the heart of the discussion of American drug policy. Should we deal with illicit drug users as victims or as criminals?

Let's examine Mrs. McCain's position in these terms. She is the privileged daughter of a wealthy family and spouse of an important politician, a person who had her own position of prestige and power. Should she not be held at least as accountable for her actions as an uneducated inner-city drug user? After all, she could enter drug treatment at any time she chose, unlike many drug users who find themselves in prison.

Moreover, Mrs. McCain was violating a position of trust by stealing from a charitable organization, using its money and medical expertise to fuel her drug use. Is this not morally more reprehensible than simply purchasing drugs illegally?

Finally, Mrs. McCain was the mother of four children at the time she admits to using drugs-between 1989 and 1992. Her children were born in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1991. In other words, Cindy McCain was using drugs while raising small children, one of whom she adopted while she was an addict. In most states, family services will remove children from a woman who is known to be an active drug addict, and she would certainly not be allowed to adopt a child while addicted.

John McCain is a hawk in the drug war. He advocates stricter drug laws, penalties and enforcement against drug sellers. He has had nothing to say about redressing our punitive approach toward drug users. Of course, McCain also supports family values. Yet if John and Cindy McCain were not well-off and influential, they might not have a family at all. McCain's lack of concern for street drug users contrasts sharply with the support and understanding his wife received. It's the old American double standard. For "straight-shooter" McCain, charity begins at home-and ends there.

Re: Tim Russert Dead At 58

I just heard I'm devastated. No matter how many conversations have occurred about issues, no matter how many times people on different sides off the fence have come together and agreed on several topics on this forum and no matter how many time the negative affect of stereotypes have been commented on, it still comes down to snide, negative comments about black conservatives.

Re: Black Conservatives Consider Voting For Obama Because He’s Black?

rhondacoca

I was referring to your comments, as well as those by plantsmantx and rikyrah, all people that I tend to agree with or respect the opinions of on most occasions. I am a "black conservative" or at least I am black and conservative but I do know my history, don't look down on people and have never described black democrats as being kept on the plantation by democrats. I have suggested that if some black democrats actually ask themselves what issues are important to them as opposed to belonging to a party by default they may be independents or republicans. Not the same as comparing their political decisions as being kept on the plantation.

I have never considered myself as "the only successful Black folk" while "the rest of us are just dumb, ignorant hicks." That's stupid. Just because my opinion is different doesn't mean it is better or worse. It is just different.

First and foremost I am a proud black woman and I am happy to be a black woman. In fact growing up going to private schools, wearing uniforms I was so happy that I actually looked different and had a strong history that I could be proud of. I kinda felt sorry for my white friends who didn't really have anything interesting about them, at least that they knew. And it wasn't all sunshine and puppies, people are mean and cruel and close minded but that was there issue not mine. I always had family and friends that outweighed the negative.

So I guess my point is it is possible to be black, love being black and love my brothers and sisters without having to subscribe to the same political ideology. So it bugs me when other black people make generalizations that because I am conservative I am out of touch, a snob or removed from the community.

Re: Black Conservatives Consider Voting For Obama Because He’s Black?

I want to add, after re-reading some of the comments that there are as many calls for blacks to leave the democratic party as there are to leave the republican party. The underling difference, I see, is no one is ever called out as being "anti-black" or "elitist" if they are democrats while it seems, based on the comments here, that black conservatives are both. I expect generalizations from other races (generally old white people) but it is so much more demeaning when it comes from other black people.

Re: What Do You Want To See At JJP?

I would like to see PMs, a lot of responses get lost when they are responded to on "stale" threads which happens about every 8 hours. Grown men who have preyed upon these young girls. What would make these GIRLS think that it's ok to be with these GROWN MEN? The hunger inside of them that they're trying to fill due to a MISSING FATHER.

This made me think are black men convicted of being pediphiles at the same rate as white men? My image of a pediphile is a middle age to old creepy white guy. I wonder if black men who prey on young black females are largely ignored as if the girl was asking for it anyway.

The R.Kelly verdict makes me ill and I will never by one of his albums or play one of his songs again.

Re: Barack Obama’s Speech on Father’s Day

I'm confused, but then again I am a black conservative so I am a bit slow (I'm kidding, about the slow part). Obama speaks to a predominately black church on fathers day about an issue that does affect a lot of black people and it is wrong? It may be uncomfortable to hear but I don't think he said anything in his speech that wasn't true.

As far as airing dirty laundry, the issues of our community aren't these dirty little secrets. If anything they are blown out of proportion by people outside of the community and if the misconseptions are ever going to be corrected they need to be discussed openly.

I don't think it was Obama's intent to call the black community out. I've heard them all my life, when I do something "socially acceptable" I'm not black when I get mad and go off "I'm showing my blackness." Nevermind I am the same person in both situations. The nations general feeling that black/brown is bad, white is good is so tired, but as this article points out it is far from being a thing of the past. I am not, nor is anyone I know striving to be "white". Success is not measured by how aligned you are with "whiteness" but is measured by things such as getting the best education, doing well in your chosen profession, taking care of your family, living a good, clean, happy life. These aren't "white" traits, these are American, hell, human traits.

And it makes me even more annoyed to read articles like this because my nieces are bi-racial and love and know about each side equally. My only point was conservatives have no more power over liberals then liberals have over conservatives. And each extreme faction of either side may look down on the other but it is an equal extreme disrespect. I don't think the general view from conservatives is that liberals are weak minded or easily swayed. In fact in my experience as of late liberals are more vocal, influential and more quickly accepted then conservatives. This may be a complete tangent to what you were saying. Corporate America, most notably the telecom companies and Big Media have every reasons to deny this, but it is a fact. Here in GA where I live I can take you to small and medium sized towns --- even to spots in the burbs of Atlanta where once you cross the line into the areas inhabited by African Americans, the price of broadband doubles or triples because the cable companies are permitted to redline our communities.

I have to disagree with this and encourage you to give more information. I work with these big companies, ATT, Verizon, Comcast, and while there are areas that aren't served with basic plans they do not divide across racial lines. Mostly it is based on proximity to major areas and I have found the people most affected by this are the Western, non Pacific states which are mostly white. Worst case the Wireless Internet cards work almost everywhere (and I've been to some random places) and the price is standard. But if you have specifics please let me know as I have access to execs at all three companies.

Re: http://www.kidtogrownup.com/2009/09/reviews.html

Honesty. If my child has a fever and hubs wants a cuddle, then it's the child. If the child wants to show me his/her 200th picture that day of a blue duck and hubs is home from a hard day at work and needs his shoulders rubbed then hubs gets the attention. If I'm fed up with the whole lot of them and need to go to the gym and soak in the hot tub then off I go, cuz after all, if mama goes bonkers trying to care for them then nobody wins.

But if there is a conflict of interest, say everybody has a fever, then adults must behave as adults and take care of the children.

Re: http://brocante-home.blogspot.com/2009/02/uncreativeness-of-women.html

I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder or in this case the mind of the reader. I think he's got most of it right. I do believe there is a difference between English (and European women) and American because I believe that, just as he describes, people (all people, men included) are effected and shaped by their environments, culture and politics.

And yes , I do believe it’s women who make (or discard) social rules in hopes of maintaining civilization.

I would add that although women aren’t as ‘free’ as man we are more often than not more powerful. It’s simply that a smart woman learns that you don’t have to be loud or brash to be powerful. You can be quiet and genteel and still get the job done.

As for the last statement, I think he’s spot on. Yes, women know that a society built on brutality will not be a society for long, that’s why we’re so determined to change the rules of civilization for the betterment of our children. And yes, sometimes we do lose site of the big picture but then we are only human.

Political correctness does no one any good if it blinds them to their own weakness and shortcomings.

Re: http://brocante-home.blogspot.com/2009/03/space.html

Our house is very glad to have us as it’s family. When we moved in this house wasn't very old (only about 20) but it was very tired. We have given it a face lift and if the human neighbors are any indication then the house neighbors are impressed that someone cares.

Please understand, there are many houses that are prettier, shi nny ’er and newer but none more loved. Does this mean it’s spotless clean and everything in perfect repair? No. It only means that we care that it’s needs things and we do our best to get to them soon as we can but life gets ahead of us sometimes.

Our house can boast that its humans are not relegated to the 'expected and accepted'. We've stepped out of the box more times than not as we redid things and so this house most assuredly has character and doesn't look like it came out of a can.

PS, I love your blog and this post was wonderful.

Re: http://brocante-home.blogspot.com/2009/04/kirsties-homemade-home.html

I'm not British (often wish I were) but from this small clip I would have to say I like her. She's right, the artisan community is very inclusive and there is no reason people can't learn to do at least a few things for themselves. There's simply no excuse for not know how to sew on a button or knit a scarf because there are shops everywhere that are more than happy to help people learn these things. I was just asking for specific areas you are concern with. I can look into Lawndale and Ford Heights.

I will say advanced services such as Broadband are generally deployed under the "NFL City" strategy and out from there. So it doesn't matter if you are rich or poor the affect is the same based on how far you are from the target market.

I can't speak to independent companies but i can say, from my experience, price gauging, at least in recent years, is rare. But like I said, I am interested in specific examples and companies.

Re: doing a little dance

I was actually visiting LA on Tuesday when "The skies have opened up over the city of angels and it is pouring down rain." Thats when we found out the difference between wheat and barley. Barley produces a chaff that crawls down your neck and up your sleeves and tortures your body with itchy scratchy pieces of barbed no see-ums. All the workers were in turtle necks and tucked in sucks - and we were in our summer delights. I'm squirming now in recollection.

I love TG, too. I miss my mother most at these times, because she is what brought my siblings all together. A system that has expended every effort to annihilate, humiliate, intoxicate, emasculate, castrate, imprison, and demonize him.

Is it any wonder why he fights to survive “by any means necessary”?

Children model the behavior that is shown to them or that receives positive reinforcement.

Where are the male role models/mentors for these young black men? Most have fallen victim to the same systematic attempt at exterminating them. They are addicted, imprisoned, or socially, morally, or educationally impotent.

Strong Black men, who have navigated the mine field relatively unscathed, are too few, too complacent, too involved in their own personal struggle, or too busy talking about it and not being about it. I applaud all those who are stepping up to help mentor these young men and I encourage others to put their rhetoric into actions…the task is monumental.

Is it any wonder why these young black men pose? Why so many, young and old, front?

When they enter a public school system that is threatened by an intelligent, assertive, black male? When their self-confidence and articulation is “rewarded” with being labeled a “problem” student, a “discipline” problem? When any attempt at self-empowerment is quickly quashed?

When the public school system demonizes you as a child and the media demonizes you as an adult…When you have been disenfranchised and rendered powerless…how do you stay viable? Is it any wonder why young black males embrace some semblance of power through intimidation and fear?

Not everyone has the means…I understand that. But…if you are able – by any means necessary…reclaim the children. Take them back, out of the hands that deal them death (on so many levels). Home school – by any means necessary, mentor – by any means necessary, find a cultural school – by any means necessary, form a parenting co-op…

By any means necessary…preserve the origins of life…save a black male.

Re: Government Sponsored AIDS?

While I have always believed it to be a conspiracy to annihilate Black people (remember Tuskeegee?)...I am convinced that what you have posted is true. Let your car be dirty. We could all do a few little things to conserve. Like take a shorter shower (I use an egg timer in the shower to help me keep within my time limit and I alternate the days I wash my hair or shave my legs). Turn off the water while brushing your teeth and washing your face. I think if we all examine our daily activities we could each find more ways to save every precious drop. I'd love to hear more ideas on how to conserve. I'd also like to see people start treating water like the precious resource it is.

Re: Organic Style Magazine Shuts Down

Well, I just figured out today that Organic Style had folded. I thought I was losing my mind, with a toddler and another on the way I figured I was just mistaken that the magazine hadn't showed up for so long. I am really disappointed that I wasn't even contacted. I too have a subscription for several more years and none of the other magazines are of any interest to me. I just emailed customer service tonight and will see what they say. I really enjoyed OS even with the format/content changes I always found something useful. I especially liked their article on plastics which I copied for my entire family. I will really miss the magazine. I liked the eclectic mix of entertainment and green living. It made it fun to read while thinking about real issues. The celebrity plugs were getting annoying and starting to make me feel like I was reading InStyle or some other crap but I just usually skipped them. Anyways, good to see that others liked the mag too. Will check out suggestions posted above for replacements. Think green!!!

Re: Florida Water Worries: Serious Shortages For Tampa Bay

I also live in Tampa and all weekend the people in my apartment complex were washing their cars; I mean come on people, we are in a water crisis. (I don’t know how I missed this post.) The post bothered me, so I followed the links in the comments and searched for more blogs about NECC rejection or acceptance. I was in disbelief! I know presenting at NECC can completely change your professional life. However, I know being a prek-12 teacher and/or teaching teachers impacts individual lives daily. Your name may not be spoken in schools around the world, but is it well spoken of in your school? If an educator never presents at NECC, they still can impact thousands of lives.

Take a step back and remember what is truly important in this life. Did you die from being rejected? Did you suffer the loss of a loved one? Did you have to watch your child suffer and not be able to stop it? Do you have to depend on someone else for your basic care? Are you being forced from your home? Are you unable to pay your bills? Do you not have food to eat? Open your eyes and look around! If having your proposal rejected by NECC is the worst thing that has ever happened to you then you have lived a charmed life indeed!!!

If any of you are still moping around about being rejected, my suggestion is to give to someone in need. Donate blood. It is true. You will be saving a life. Visit a children’s hospital and give the parents a gift card to a local restaurant or a night’s stay at a local motel. Give to a Ronald McDonald House. Give to a Burn Survivors’ group (Excellent group at KU Med in KC, KS). Burn survivor charities get very little publicity. Would it change your attitude about this summer if you knew while you are at NECC listening to others present that a child you sponsored was attending a camp for burn survivors or another special camp for children? Isn’t that what being an educator is all about…making the difference in the life of a child?

Re: http://www.crimene.ws/2007/11/throwing-donuts-at-hookers.html

Assault is assault whether it is a donut or a brick.

Re: http://thehappyhospitalist.blogspot.com/2008/05/hold-your-tails-up-high-boys.html

They are as cute as can BE
I have 2...one rescued from a puppy mill / the other bounced from her 3rd home.
Thanks for the stories

Re: http://sometimesithink-krissy.blogspot.com/2009/03/blogging-is-in-my-blood.html

I think it's very healthy for you to pursue some of your own interests during this time. In this economy, to not have top notch customer service is unacceptable. Especially with a loyal customer who is placing a large order. Seriously, they cannot refund or pay the shipping on a return due to inaccurate sizing?! What are they thinking?! And how are they losing track of merchandise!? Again, in this economy, they should be thankful customers are buying and really take better care of inventory. I live in the US and buy online from Shopbop.com and bluefly.com. I'm not sure of shipping to Canada. How disappointing. I have to seriously say that after reading your blog and watching your posts, I found myself checking out Revolve.com more often. I will no longer based on the poor customer service. It's not worth it. If I'm going to spend my hard earned dollars on a clothing/accessory purchases, I want the store to be top quality. Thanks for your insight!!

Re: http://withlovegabrielle.blogspot.com/2009/02/because-it-is-my-life.html

I agree with above comments. They are out to make a ton of money. Nothing corrupts like power and money, so I'm not keen on trusting anything the government, the CDC, or the FDA has to say about the swine flu or any other health-related issue.

My husband was forced by his employer to take the vaccine. Not 6 hours later, he was extremely ill. Oddly enough, the employer made all of the employees sign a waiver saying they were vaccinated voluntarily. Right. Voluntary vaccination, under duress. Our two big boys go in the back, and our 6 year old daughter buckles them in their boosters if she's not at school, the baby goes behind the driver's seat, and 6-er goes behind the passenger seat. If she's not with us, I open the back hatch and buckle the big boys from behind. Way easier than climbing over the seats!

Re: http://4littlemen.blogspot.com/2009/04/home-again.html

peanut butter and apples is a favorite here. and we make our own peanut butter in our food processor, because it's a way better deal (for us) than purchasing. and i can make it as crunchy as i want! yum!

Re: http://4littlemen.blogspot.com/2009/03/good-stuff.html

you are a lovely person.

Re: http://4littlemen.blogspot.com/2009/03/you-asked-it-health-edition-10.html

We are crunchy granola people. We used to be pharmaceutical people (comparatively speaking) until we began to read information from both sides. We used to be grocery store people until we started researching where our food comes from, how the animals are raised, what pesticides really do.

We have made certain choices based upon verifiable information. It sounds like that is what you do, too.

It's too bad that people aren't stimulated to learn more when they are faced with information they have never encountered before. And if words like ignorant and uneducated are going to be bandied about, shouldn't they be tossed in the direction of the people whose undies are in bunches, who don't care to learn more?

Also? So nice of the anonymous commentor to point you toward Jesus. Because you've totally never mentioned HIM before on your blog. I hope you're feeling super, anonymous!

As for the question at hand, we are cast iron people all the way. I have three fry pans, six- ten- and twelve-inch, a dutch oven, and a griddle that's flat on one side and has grill lines on the other. Lodge (or Lodge Logic?) has a huge line of products that are really reasonably priced, and pretty much everything comes pre-seasoned, so it's ready to use right out of the box. The enameled cast iron (Le Creuset) is way prettier, but hundreds of dollars more.

And if you happen to burn something to a wretched, nasty lump, build a huge bonfire and throw your cast iron in it. The next day, pull it out of the ashes, rinse it off with water, rub some oil on it, and you're good to go.

Re: http://4littlemen.blogspot.com/2009/01/happy-5-months-girls.html

what pretty babes. happy fivemonthday!

Re: http://4littlemen.blogspot.com/2009/01/thumb-love.html

my middle baby is a thumb boy. it is such a useful thing to have around. he has a bwankie, too, named Beloved, and dere is a special part on bewoved dat he hasta hold. or else.

Re: http://4littlemen.blogspot.com/2009/01/wordless-wednesday_21.html

You just can't beat a daddy and his babies. It's too bad some people make personal attacks (which I assume is what was going on) instead of engaging in discussion and learning something from those who have opposite opinions.

My *actual* comment was that I have those bins, too. Everywhere, actually, but my favorite use of them so far? I was pleased to find this answer that says certain types of blogs will not be able to switch to the new BETA at the moment, among them, "A blog publishing via FTP to a non-BlogSpot server", but that they "be adding support for these blogs as soon as possible." So the news is not as bad as I feared. And agreed, for the price, one cannot complain either way. :)

Re: http://dreambenderpacu.blogspot.com/2009/10/tired-of-drama.html

ahahahahah! tenk yu sa kanta! whahahhha gud luck sa tv! whahahah

Re: http://dreambenderpacu.blogspot.com/2009/08/music.html

ahaha. ktawa man ko ui..violent reactions..ehehe
naibog ko..lingaw..huhu hay

Re: http://dreambenderpacu.blogspot.com/2009/07/h1n1.html

daghanag endorphins ato oi..hehehe
hurot na? lol

Re: http://dreambenderpacu.blogspot.com/2009/05/gallery.html

hala ka nice! can i shy?

Re: http://dreambenderpacu.blogspot.com/2009/05/gallery.html

hala ka nice! can i shy?

Re: http://dreambenderpacu.blogspot.com/2009/04/youngcampbell.html

ay sa kanya pala.

Re: http://dreambenderpacu.blogspot.com/2009/04/youngcampbell.html

=)

Re: http://dreambenderpacu.blogspot.com/2009/04/why-i-dont-go-to-church.html

i feel you there.
haay.

Re: Formula 1 Night Race in Singapore

I had no idea passes for F/1 were so outrageous.
