in Can Carol Bartz pull Yahoo out of its funk? on Scobleizer
@Jillian - I've found their display and search ad sales staff to be fantastic! They're professional, they listen, they share best practices, they're willing to get creative with you, they actually call you back! That holds as true today as it did when we were buying display ads (run of site and certain focused verticals in the directory) when I managed Thrifty.com. I have my own gig now and they were one of the first (maybe THE first) I called.

If you need a phone number for a point of contact gimme a shout back here in the comments or @geraldbuckley on Twitter.

Wish I hadn't missed this one. Would love to have asked (and will on his blog) why there isn't yet an Urchin 6 build for Mac OS X. There's a BSD build but it won't install on OSX... Always the brides maid...

Looking forward to the video posting on Monday.

in iPhone Developers have a blockbuster weekend on Scobleizer
I talked with Satoshi of Big Canvas (maker of PhotoShare) and AJ at MarketCircle. PhotoShare made the AppStore debut - just barely. AJ's crew are taking a relaxed approach. Both say the Apple is bending over backwards to lend a hand when and where they need to. Qualifying for the AppStore IS rigorous and VERY specific but WELL documented too.

With any luck we'll have ours in the AppStore by 2009.

Hey, Jerry, you might investigate Coburn's State of Oklahoma. We're a major telecommunications hub for SBC/AT&T, Level 3 has MAJOR infrastructure here, Google just parked one of their major datacenters here.

Tell Scoble Coburn doesn't grok technology AFTER he discusses the matter.

And, as an Oklahoman who voted for Coburn as both a representative AND a senator... he's NOT there as a NASA porker. The man is incredibly void of any and all corruption. Wish he could be tapped for Obama's running mate. Talk about an across the aisle tour de force!

Just bought the Tulsa Guide... This is really cool stuff! The folio format is great. The information is really solid for an early beta stage. Technically speaking its really, really tight. Like it. A LOT!

I knew when Dave took us into confidence on our photowalk in London he was onto something. I'll sure help to promote it. Great job Dave and co!

M.twitter.com seems to have survived the uglies. Course... Not many people on. It's almost ugly enough to abandon ship... Ah, heck, let's call it. I'm out. I've no time for on again off again svcs.

in Flickr’s fourth birthday “adults only” on Scobleizer
Know what... that's Flickr's loss (and one more negative bit added to their brand imho). Flickr lost me, for good, when they continued to make boneheaded decisions about copyrights of others and kept taking the wrong side of the arguments. (yes, learned about these first through Thomas H)

Now, I just put my stuff up on my .Mac gallery and call it a day. I don't need a bunch of social umpf behind my photo sharing. Just access control and latitude to do what I want to (within reason). Still wishing for RAW support... someday maybe.

in Calacanis is right: startups can’t afford slackers on Scobleizer
Try being a bootstrapped startup founder with a day job (thinking me, Thomas Hawk, etc). I don't know about Thomas' situation... But there's no 'healthy balance' in my equation and that's just the way it's going to be for a while. Especially after the seed round happens. I've managed three very different startups including my latest. Each one has demanded long hours, unusual amounts of dedication and a lack of tolerance to slackers. And, Mr. Scoble... I stayed at a hostel the night of the London Geek Dinner. Saved a helluva lot of money. Good thing to. I'd have had a hard time paying that Picadilly rate for a hotel I saw two hours in.

Love the startup life!

@Wreck (#32)... actually, cooking from scratch is on the decline. A recent "Progressive Grocer" article noted 2007 was the first year better than 50% of all dining was done "out".

Cooking from scratch is on the decline in the US no matter how badly all the cooking shows want it to the contrary. It's a great way for the consumer packaged goods manufacturers to get their products in front of you (since the newspaper's circulation... you know the one you no longer take... is in the tank)

Khürt - Don't suppose you have the ADC download of 10.5.2 + the beta of Safari. Some really cool things are right around the corner (all thanks to WebKit).

in Can anyone stop this man? on Scobleizer
Earlier this afternoon I was literally chatting up Jeff Barr to the Executive Director of a not for profit. Said NFP hosts scientific journals for an aggregate of publishers kind of like (but not) Ingenta or BioOne. Their biggest asset is the DATA they host for others and it's not adequately safeguarded for disaster recovery.

Hope he contacted Jeff ahead of the tsunami of people you sent that direction.

Also some of the popular FTP clients have been supporting S3 for a while which makes it very convenient to use. That's what did it for me.

Looking forward to the March 3 debut. I'll be travelling to the Middle East that week. So, we'll see if you're as blocked over there as Twitter was last time. :)

Dave, Had just arrived back from Dubai the day you and I met at the London Geek Dinner. It's an amazing place full of friendly people. Can't wait to go back. It's not that Tulsa's a bad place... simply that Dubai is an amazing one.

in Engadget alert: Chinese tech toys on Scobleizer
Never, ever underestimate the power of the Chinese. They have the numbers completely on their side. Imagine some prescribed % of a population as "innovative" and some prescribed % as "execution" and some prescribed % as "consumer"... Once their economic purchasing power for their own consumer electronics goods passes a critical threshold (much speculation as to where that line really is)... The US will absolutely have to compete on new terms NOT dictated by their own innovations.

Mr. Scoble, you haven't really focused much on China's impact on the Seagates and Suns of The Valley. Wonder if you might slip that into your upcoming interviews? Imagining Davos put a whole new perspective on the tone your new program.

What was it, Mr S... about 1 a.m. on the London streets that Dave Sifry said it would be awesome at Davos? To just work the program like crazy and accept the lead of some certain others? I'd carry your battery packs any day :)

BTW, did Howard Stringer dodge your battery question or what!? C'mon!

Looked at the largest of many of your Flickr images. And the largest of the images (while nice) lacks the clarity of detail I'd want at that resolution. Wonder how much of that is the lens v. clean sensors, etc.

Final observation... I see the Fast Company logo has made it to at least one of your Qik channel uploads... I'm concluding you're there as press...?

Mr. Scoble, consistent with that advice re. Folio magazine I commented a few days ago... The January issue and you guessed it... social media is definitely factoring on the scene.

And on the flip side Daniel Brusilovsky shook hands with Jobs. Did THAT choke Qik's server? No way, because there's no controversial tension.

Wish Violet wasn't so Blue about SJ snubbing her. Doubting she's that easily discouraged given the persistence req'd to podcast as prolifically as she does on her, ahem, chosen topic. Dedication there fellers.

Robert, congrats to you and Rocky. Great choices!

Not to pick on your new employer... Tried to comment on Lynne's blog and it errors out for no obvious reason. Might try it yourself just to see if your mileage varies. If we're going to participate in a discuss/attention driven relationship... Either I'm going to have to get better at understanding what I did wrong on the blog there or they're going to have to wrench on their tech a bit. I know I can change! Please give me another chance? ;)

Mr. Scoble... Hope the woolies have worn off from CES and you guys are having a tremendous time at Macworld Expo. Say "Hey" to Daniel and Patrick for me (to Dori too if you see her, that should draw a blank stare) and sorry couldn't be there to hang out.

As for tonight's announce... Hope it turns out as you disclosed in London. I'm going to be sleeping about the time you guys go public so... early, discreet congrats to you, Rocky and the Scobles! Hard earned and well deserved bud.

@ the doubters, there's an interesting video (wish I had the url rfn) of Guy Kawasaki interviewing Frind and a few others and Frind is most definitely the real deal. As for Chronic Blunt... could be you have a better track record than most? If so, get with the program and shout about it. The Scoble's have gotten out there and done more than most of us. Lot to be said about that alone. Trying to tear someone down just 'cause they're passionate is a sure way to pour gas on their fire.
