in A Little History on Jay-Z and What You Can Learn From It on Justin R. Levy
I love Jay-Z. Discovered him when "It's a Hard Knock Life" came out. I digested everything Jay-Z since then.

I remember an interview that Bono of U2 did about 3-years ago. He said that rappers "get it". They understand that hip hop is much more than music, it's a culture and they understand how to capitalize on it. He said that the rock industry is dying because rockers don't get that what they're doing is a business.

So, hats off to Jay-Z for thinking like a businessman. And thanks for reminding me about the hustle. Sometimes that's the only thing that'll get one to the top.

in America Outdoors Presentation and Follow-Up on thevirtualhandshake
Thanks for stepping in for me, Scott. I know you hit it out of the park for America Outdoors.

To all those who were at American Outdoors, sorry I couldn't be there, but one never plans for an emergency. And this one prevented me from leaving Toronto.

Despite this, I'm anxious to see how those who attended apply social media to their businesses based on your advice. What's the one action you're going to take in the next 90 days based on Scott's advice?

in Twitter as an Advisory Board on Chris Brogan
I asked if I should buy the movie "I Am Legend" since it came out today. I got a few responses, but nothing definitive yet. It's kind of cool that I can ask just about anything and get a wide variety of answers.

in Thoughts for Future PodCamps on Chris Brogan
I applaud you Chris for identifying what's been missing amongst podcasters - a sense of community. We gather, but then we shun those who aren't doing it for non-commercial reasons. Or vice versa.

That to me is sad. We can't preach community all the time if even amongst us as podcasters we don't support it. Whether you do audio or video, who cares? If you're a well known podcasters or not, who cares? What should unite us is the love of this medium. How we choose to use it shouldn't matter.

in Is Social Media More for PR than for Marketers on Chris Brogan
Unfortunately, there are still too many PR and marketing professionals who believe that social media will take away their jobs. That social media will render them obsolete. So sad.

in 2008/01/10/the-problem-with-podcasting-isnt-downloads/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Here's what I don't understand - If being part of a podcast advertising network hasn't worked for you and you have such an impressive audience (I like your numbers), why the heck are you still looking for representation?

I don't get it. When something isn't working, Mark, you don't do more of it. You do something different.

There are tons of ways to make money podcasting that doesn't involve advertising or sponsorship. It's time for you to be confident and be bold and look at all the other monetization strategies that exist.

in Podcasting: So…what now? on Unquiet Desperation

That's what we really need - someone to separate the drab from the fab podcasts. Actually, each niche needs one of those. Someone who is the authority on reviewing business podcasts for a business community and only highlighting the really good ones.

Looking forward to hearing your podcast.

in The Key To Getting The Fees You Deserve on The Michel Fortin Blog
You have no idea how timely this article is right now. I was just about to send a PDF with all my pricing in it to a prospect, but it only had 2 levels. Thanks so much for reminding me that 3 is the magic number. You've given me a bit of homework to do.

in Maintaining Community Spirit In Larger Communities on Chris Brogan
I'm finding that I don't even bother attending the sessions. I attended so few of them in Boston and didn't attend any in Toronto. Not because I found the sessions boring. On the contrary, I found that meeting people in the hallways were much more interesting.

I love hearing people's discoveries after they leave a session. I love brainstorming ideas with those who are jazzed about what podcasting can do. I love being in a position to help someone figure it out as they go from podvirgin to podenthusiast.

My idea of community is to be available. So, if I can't attend each and every session, I don't bother. Instead, I'd rather be evangelizing and networking, so that people take their enthusiasm about podcasting to their businesses, their workplace and to their colleagues.

in Starbucks shows how not to do a podcast on Scobleizer
Thanks for the link love, Robert. I couldn't understand why everyone was poo-pooing on the Starbucks podcast until I listened to it. Wow, quelle horreur!

There's still hope for Starbucks, they just need to focus less on the coffee bean and more on their customers. Then they'll have a winner.
