in Wrong Reaction From Techcrunch On Paid Links? on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
Lincoln,
Google already know all the publishers, and advertisers that PPP have on board. Because as you would have guessed, Google Analytics is all over the PPP site.
The more you think about it, it is kind of silly to use an analytics package from a company who is penalizing all the publishers and advertisers within your network.

More people need to says no to large corporations. This is a good move to keep public and research content out of the control from a corporation that is purely for profit.

in What do your HTML emails really look like? on Duct Tape Marketing
Nice headline. I was expecting an article on how to test your HTML email on different email readers to make sure it looks exactly the way you want it using the right amount of inline CSS and HTML tables.
I normally create the emails in Dreamweaver, and then test it in browsers before sending them out in another actual email test.

This is a small casualty. Looks like the link brokers, and sellers will start evaluating their business models for a piece of the Google pie.

in Multiple Reasons Why I Loathe Top Commenters Plugins on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
I was just searching for "top commenters" and this blog entry was way on the top. Had to read why you loathe the plug-in. It certainly does not hurt the blog using the plug-in because most of them only limit the out bounds to ten. And it definitely encourages more conversation, as people are literally competing for these top commenter links. A blog shouldn't be so concerned about hoarding PR, as building good indexable content is more important when good comments contribute to the content.

in Weekend Entertainment - Funny iPhone Review on Writing White Papers
Wow, that was more like a full paid review by the New York Times. He goes way in depth with iPhone review after the initial parodies [and subsequent ending parody as well].
When the camera's were well focused on the product, there was nothing negative said about the iPhone. Only when the camera is away from the product, he mentions only ATT services, limited battery life, and non-expansion slots.

It may be fair to say that not all product launches can be as successful as the iPhone; at the same time because the product is so new that it is bound have a few glitches.
Buying an iPhone is a decent investment even at the retail price tag of $500 with a two year contract. It may be hard to deliver on expectations.
I would wait for the 2nd generation before buying into the iPhone hype.

Good for JC, everyone does the same thing ranging from Paris Hilton to Donald Trump to keep perpetuating whatever sells their image or whatever works to make them even more money.
Great parody site, with actual insightful commentary.

in What’s the Motivation to Start a Startup? on Instigator Blog
You forget to put in the learning experience. By starting up a company, you learn more in a few months than a lifetime in a career. Managing your own start up, there's a lot more than just wearing multiple hats.

in Google Selective Page Filtering & Web Spam – Payola $180 Gift on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
Long post, but managed to finish reading it. On the terms of categorizing Volusion into different categories, I think it is correct for search engines to accept one copy and place the other categories into supplemental since it is exactly the same page with only one article.
What's more fascinating in regards to your study is if you think Google did a manual removal of your reviews after you had reported them as paid for reviews. If Google does not have a true algorithm in place to handle these paid link reports, they will take forever and spend too much unnecessary resources to fight paid links.

I agree it was a long post, and it was also lacking in images to break up the flow. It is quite technical as well and it took a lot of words to explain my reasoning.
Sometimes it can't be helped if you want to portray the full arguments, and I also find that providing detailed posts makes the comments much more interesting as well.
I would be quite happy if Google decided that a lot of my duplicate content pages should hit the supplemental results.
If someone searched for "Volusion Shopping Cart Review" they might show the supplemental page rather than a "Volusion Review" page.
Supplemental results are meant to be because of lack of pagerank, duplicate content typically has lower pagerank, because it doesn't have links.
I think it might have been a manual or semi-automated removal "sight unseen" - they didn't really look at the value of the page.
A real algorithm would have also picked up my volusion tag page which is still indexed.
I can't see a reason that the original page was kicked out, but the volusion tag remains other than a mistake in a manual review.
Also of note, Google have said that they woouldn't be penalising the content that has the links, but devaluing the links on the page. They are not meant to be kicking my content out of the serps.
This is easpecially true because less than 1% of my original content is paid reviews. Hell I don't even use text-link-ads, and my affiliate links are mainly nofollowed, though on some I have been a little careless.

in iPhone and AT&T - A Bad Combination? on Sage Blogger
I can still remember ATT wireless as my first provider. It is true that they are the worst, that was back in 1999. Ever since switching from their service to VZ, I have never looked back.
As for iPhone, there was an article on how VZ declined to be a service provider to them because Apple was asking for too much. But they managed to sign Cingular as the exclusive iPhone provider.

I enjoy the Veoh embedded website player more than their standalone P2P player for larger files (where it is a little similar to bit torrent). If you ever want to download their files and save it to the hard drive, it is very slow and hogs up a lot of computer resources.
It is great to see another video source becoming successful other than a la YouTube, because the quality streams of YouTube is just terrible.

Nice comprehensive list. Some are well known and don't need much introduction, but I am not too familiar with Kaboodle, Fleck, and Ratepoint. Going to give them a try to see if they are really good enough to be on the same page as Digg and Wikipedia.
