Please let this be a joke gone bad. What was a terrible idea. It just ruined my whole week. Now i have nothing smooth to wake up to in the morning. It's not too late--go back to smooth jazz and I will continue to be a listener!

Saludos

in Georgetown is the team to beat on Daily News of Newburyport
Yeah......there were two teams in the area winning superbowls around that time. Georgetowns is a laugher, who really.....honestly cares they won a game against a team that couldnt play JV level in the Cape Ann. Pentucket won two superbowls playing in a superior league, and superior division.

Yeah....back when there were like 10 divisions of high school football. Who cares about a superbowl in division 10B where teams can barely field teams of 15 players and they wear cowboy boots. Nobody respects that superbowl win outside of Georgetown fwi.......in fact, its usually used as a punchline.

in Liberaltarianism: Back the Future on Will Wilkinson
Kevin,

I think the middle ground is in ends...not necessarily means.

While I do agree as was posted above that Will is perhaps being a little too optimistic, it must be said that there is a common ground in trying to improve the human condition and that many of the thinkers like Hayek and Friedman did concern themselves greatly with trying to help the poor and defending individual freedom and choice at the same time...even though liberals refuse to see it that way.

But since they conceptualize the problem differently and understand economic laws and forces differently (meaning one does and one less so...or at least doesn't care about them) the prescriptions come out differently.

On your health care example, Liberals think market-based ideas failed (even though we aren't really using them correctly) and think Medicare is the only way to help the elderly with Health Care. Libertarians think market-based ideas are the answer and are afraid of seeing more bad consequences from government meddling in the system.

Both see a problem and want it fixed to help others but both perceive the problem differently.

Of course, it doesn't help us libertarians that we understand the liberal position better than they understand ours.

in Liberaltarianism: Back the Future on Will Wilkinson
I think you overestimate the possibilities here...perhaps because you tend to share company with more economically literate and thoughtful liberals in the DC think-tank/journalist community....and even that can be a stretch. After all, if you read a lot of Ezra Klein, you seriously wonder about his economic literacy. Others like Matthew Yglesias seem to have to a little more of a clue, however.

Moreover, it doesn't help that the genuinely economically literate liberals....like Left of Center economists...tend to misrepresent the libertarian positions inspired by Hayek and Friedman on many, many levels.

In short, I think there's a bigger disconnect there than you give credit. Whether it's through sheer ignorance of the true views of these great thinkers is another matter.

in No Jobs for SLIIT Students ? on Rumbling Lankan
i have no intention of providing my company details and it is not cuss i am in anyway ashamed of the company but i simply refuse to get into public debate with my company details attached to it.

first of all u r very naive to think that IT is only programming and 5 programmers are more than enough for a medium sized company, this is because we do not attest to the normal SL ideology of hiring 25 ppl to do the work of 5, ppl here work hard and get paid for it

since u mentioned low salaries fyi our starting salary in 300USD for the 6 month probation period and after that its 500USD and increases 5 to 10% based on the permanence, so it is far better that most other IT companies

your other point also was quite funny as i have personally interviewed 10 sliit grads, and all 10 of them said they are willing to work for 200USD a month, but they werent good enough and apart from one all the others scored less than 60 in your English aptitude test and a further 2 admitted to us that they copied a project when my colleague asked several questions regarding the implementation of the said project

i really dont want to get into a whole thing with u so please take this only as constructive criticism based on my personal experience of sliit grads

unfortunately SLIIT has become more like a glorified tuition class rather than an IT university, this is a issue that seriously should be addressed by the administration.

i own a small IT company and employ several IT professionals but only employ 5 programmers and all the other being researchers and technical writers all related to IT of course and from my experience of hiring IT professionals SLIIT does not fair well when compared to other private and even government IT institutes and unis, in fact most of our best employees are from University of Colombo and Moratuwa and the other notables are from APIIT, so SLIIT should really improve there standards and make sure they prove the students more hands on practical knowledge.
