ROWE is indeed the future of work. It brings common sense to the workplace and it treats employees as ADULTS. Polly hit the nail on the head with the title - give adults the freedom they deserve and they'll pay you back tenfold.

Work is not a place you GO, but something you DO.

We wish more people would take this to heart and not worry about commuting - we're with you on that!

We have a work culture in America, though, that puts a high amount of importance on face time and hours worked (in the office).

Until we stop believing that people need to be in an office to do work, people will still commute to and from the office.

Until we stop believing that work starts at 8:00 and ends at 5:00, we will have rush hour and people will sit in traffic.

Once we change our beliefs about work, we're on the road to more people saying no to their commutes!

We couldn't agree with your more - EVERY day should feel like Saturday. And, just to give everyone who reads this hope that it can happen, here's a short story:

We have migrated 3,000 people at Best Buy's corporate campus to a Results-Only Work Environment (ROWE). One of the guideposts for creating a ROWE is that "Every day feels like Saturday". With 3,000 people living like that, productivity is up an average of 41% on ROWE teams.

So...making every day feel like our favorite day of the week is not only a relaxing thought - it's better for business, too! Let's make it happen!

Great post on telecommuting. It's no surprise that there were no negative impacts discovered...as long as people are focused on getting their work done, everything should be fine.
