in We Still Need Better Filters on Chris Brogan
Amen. Aggregation is pretty much nailed. Filtering is next on the list.
I rely on the people I'm connected to via feeds, twitter, facebook, etc for filtering. However, the results are so-so. There are lots of folks I connect to because I value their opinions on specific topics, but find their off-topic data useless noise.
I'd love to be able to follow people only when they're yapping about specific stuff. Of course, I also want to make sure I get plenty of high-quality serendipitous stuff (NOT bad serendipitous stuff).
We're not there yet, but this is what we're trying to do with 9Neighbors -- to give people a way follow the content created by people in their community, but only when it's about their community.

in Why Microsoft Buying Yahoo COULD Rock on Chris Brogan
I definitely respect Ray Ozzie, but tend to agree more with umair:
Neither company has the DNA to take on Google (let alone the massive number of startups waiting in the wings). Sure, they might collectively have the resources. But DNA will always constrain YahooSoft from utilizing those resources in ways that create value.

Right on.
The beauty of all your first points is that if they're carried out, the last happens organically. As people bring real voice and authenticity to their reporting, that fake studio veneer disappears.

Wow. Nice work.
Amazing to see the contrast between Rev. Jackson & Obama -- Old School vs. New School. Lot's of respect for Rev. Jackson, but he's just as much a part of the old world order as Hillary and all the folks standing behind her in Des Moines on Thursday night.

in [bijansabet.com] the personal tumblelog of Bijan Sabet on BijanBlog
Bijan, since you switched to Tumblr, many of your posts having been showing up entirely in the headline field in Google Reader. Here's what I mean. Is anybody else having this problem?

I noticed that too. I believe it happens only on non-text posts. E.g. photo, music or video posts on tumblr. I will check with david and see if there is something they can do.
Peter F. Couvares
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. Aside from displaying IN A GIANT FONT BECAUSE THEY'RE TITLES, Newsgator is truncating them so I have to click to read them. Annoying.

Do you have any problems w/ third-party apps slowing or crashing your iphone? This sounds cool, but I'm kinda paranoid about opening a Pandora's box ... don't want to end up in Nabeel's situation.

in Should VCs Blog? on A VC
How many of these reasons to blog for you as a VC are also reasons for the folks running your portfolio companies to blog?
My sense is some, but not many. I think entrepreneurs blog for a different set of reasons than VCs, and thus tend to produce a different style of blog. I'd call the difference altitude -- VCs are at 30,000 ft, focusing on trends; startup folks are in the weeds, trying to define their vision for their product.

What do you think of Dave Winer's reaction to Brad's post?
I thought Dave's comments on Twitter were the best part of his podcast. He uses Twitter as an example of the type of network and platform that could solve the identity problems Brad spelled out. Do you agree? You mentioned Twitter's platform in your announcement post, but focused on the communication functions. How central is the platform to your vision of the business?

in One Way Open Is Not Enough on A VC
I'm surprised everybody is so excited about this. Yesterday's changes seem less about opening up than helping people deal with notification spam by changing the delivery mechanism format from e-mail to RSS.
For me, the most important data on Facebook is the News Feed. If Facebook really wants to open up, they'll let me read my News Feed in the same application I read all my other feeds -- Google Reader.
