in Is Yelp Committing Extortion? on /Message
This is a really interesting post, Stowe. I am not surprised by the allegations. I've been a Yelp member for a couple of years now, but I don't write that often. I think it's because every time I go back to the site, I'm reminded of how snarky the reviewers are. I feel like Yelp encourages that sort of behavior, and I feel so bad for the businesses that I have a hard time taking part in it. Mostly, when I review a place, it's a place I loved, and so I'm okay with writing it up and giving it the 5 stars its owed. But because of the influence I know Yelp has over businesses, I'm not willing to rate a place 1 or 2 stars and contribute to its demise. Where did all the snarkiness come from? Why do Yelpers think they're superior to everyone else? Calling the frequent Yelp-users the Elite group probably doesn't help.

Three ideas. Why not!

1. They should sell advertising on this page at a super high CPM! Maybe they'll be the first ads on FB to see major success?

2. The phone number to the Facebook therapist hotline to comfort people.

3. "Please don't go to MySpace! We're hurrying to fix the problem!"

in My Number One Friendfeed Feature Suggestion on Tech Success
my question is, now that facebook has introduced a friendfeed-like comment-able mini-feed (as of today!), how is your friendfeed activity going to suffer? or is it not? are they two completely different beasts?
