in NY Times quotes my blog, but no linkback on Thomas Crampton
I know exactly what you are saying. A couple of times, MSM has quoted Steve or me and then mentioned our blog without a link. I have then emailed the reporter asking them to get the link on the online version. At least twice, they have come back and said that goes against the "guidelines." I ask, what guidelines are those, the ones that say you are supposed to make things difficult on YOUR OWN readers?

in Why I Want To Hide My Twitter Follower Count on Christine Lu
I agree with much of what you say, but your hiding your followers may be a bit drastic.
I have resolved to cap those I follow at 2,000 and I am almost there.
The focus should be on the # you follow because at a certain point (I've chosen 2,000) it becomes unmanageable, but since I agree with you that the sheer number of those following you does not matter, why even bother to block it?

Great Post. I just wonder whether the client saw this letter before it went out. In other words, who is the idiot here?

in How Corporates Should View Comment Policies on Chris Brogan
I completely agree. I have actually gotten tougher on comments over the years. I actually employ a standard similar to that you propose. Mine is whether I would care if my daughters (now 18 and 11) read my blog. Now I know my kids are way too cool to ever read my blog, but there have definitely been times where I have invoked the standard of "what if they did so."

in Jay Oatway: Blackberry or iPhone? on Thomas Crampton
I've had just about every iteration of Blackberry except the Storm and I now have an iPhone. Here's my view: the iPhone's email cannot even compare with Blackberry, particularly if you get hundreds of emails a day. But, other than that, the iPhone is better and a helluva lot more fun.

in A growing cleantech economy? China steps up its efforts to go green on VentureBeat
China on its environment is just like an errant nephew. One always wants to believe things are getting better, it just isn't clear that they are.

I was hoping you would actually list their names for the benefit of all bloggers. Oh well.
I just delete crude comments without an email; I no longer have any mercy.

in Wikinomics » Blog Archive » Is Law 2.0 possible? on Wikinomics
Lawyers tend to be inherently conservative and law school trains them to be so. Lawyers are trained to ask what can go wrong, not what can go right. This means they (we) will always be suspicious of the new. Personally, I like this because this allows those few of us who embrace the new technologies to jump out in front.

Great post. And if you want to go a little bit upscale, go out for a sushi lunch at one of the big department stores. You can usually get a really good sushi lunch for around $20-$25.

Couple things. 1) Doesn't cost of living/currency values play a part here?2) Koreans may spend 12 hours a day at the office, but they certainly are not working all that time. Also, I would bet many of these hours "working" are spent socializing in bars and restaurants for work.

Great idea. I have been using my secretary to spot topics and I'm guessing that costs me about $50 a day and that's not including any writing. I'm going to try finding someone to spot the issues and give me a first draft.

Read the book BLINK by Malcom Gadwell and you will understand why I can be so confident both that you have made the right decision and even that it really is not so spur of the moment. Good luck on your next stage. Northern or Southern CA?

in AdTech: Why China sells Internet ads by the day on Thomas Crampton
Russia is more like China, or at least its leading search engine, Yandex is. I always thought it was because there is a perception of so much fraud/trickery in those two countries that few would pay per click.

I find this stat meaningless without more context. What is the percentage from US sites? From German sites? From French sites? What about the language issues?

Hey, Chris, are you coming back?

It's actually pretty cool just hiding the follower count and tweeting as usual. More a statement at this point than really having any effect on the community. But I do wish Twitter allowed that option. We're allowed to limit what we show folks on Facebook. It'd be nice for once if Twitter could let us limit this info to folks too. I'm not protecting my updates. I think the info I share is much better being open to all to drop in to read.
But the problem in the community is the tendency to focus too much on the # of followers. So hiding it is just a nice change.
