We believed him, and think he was being genuine at the time, because we've followed him for some time now, and he talks rarely about money, always about vision.

You make him out to be some sort of crook for taking the funding. It's not like he's the first person to change their mind on funding, and it's understandable why so many do. People say they want to do it all themselves, and not take charity funding, or however you want to look at it, from VCs, but then the bills come, the expenses come, the staff payments come, and the money still isn't there.

There's only so many ways to go when that happens

Re: Countdown to 1000

hm. Sure, a potential employer logging onto google and finding a blog full of really great posts with lots of interactivity with the readers and several years of archives is going to be impressed. In the same way, an employer finding a myspace site (fair enough, it's not a blog) or a piece of splog*spot crap that's full of profanity, racism, poor spelling and idiocy is going to be majorly turned off. Unfortunately, this concept is so ingrained in society and is the driving force behind nations deteriorating into socialism.

True that. I could make a very strong point that socialism is in fact the ideal system in theory, but in practice it is never going to work. It never has and there's no reason to think it will. It has nothing to do with not liking him. I think he’s a fairly likable guy. It has to do with the rule of law, the same way the Clinton impeachment was about lying under oath (not a blowjob like A.J likes to think). There is no legality to the NSA eavesdropping without a warrant. The argument has already been made. Read it.

Oh I read your article. So you like Bush, fair enough. That wasn't really the main argument for either of us, but this:

It has to do with the rule of law

The issue, though, is that we both have a completely different view on this. I don't think he broke the law. It was a little sketchy, but I don't think he did anything illegal. You're coming from the opposite direction, so we're just going to end up going in circles.

If the right to privacy can be used to justify abortion rights, it certainly can be expected as a basic tenant of American liberty.

I don't know if you're being serious or not, but the idea that allowing abortion is giving the mother privacy is one of the lamest excuses ever to circumventing constitutional law

If you’re so willing to give it up, I suggest you go turn yourself in to the FBI so they can document your life, take fingerprint and DNA samples of you and place a tracking device on your car.

I'm not saying I enjoy loss of privacy, merely that I'm not "naive" (if you will) enough to think I ever had it.

Since when has this been a popularity contest in the world. This is a nation of laws and three branches of government, not one that can do whatever he wants. Give me a break.

That still doesn't answer what you expect impeachment to accomplish. It will embarass the country, be a victory for the enemies, and be a huge battle won for the likes of John F'ing Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and Michael Moore.

I don't like any of those three

Re: California Joins Illinois in Calling for Bush Impeachment

1. I don’t care if it embarasses the country. What does that have to do with enforcing law and the integrity of the Office of President?

I don't think a law has been broken, and I don't think there is any integrity missing from the current oval office.

2. How is it a victory for enemies? I thought the real war was a battle over ideals. Was not aware it was a battle over George Bush. In that case, let’s hold steady because the 2008 election will mean the end of terrorism because George Bush will be out of office. Please.

Like it or not, anything involving this presidency and this regime is going to be all about bush. at the moment he is the face of the nation. having congress impeach him is a victory for those all over the world who hate him and hate what he's done

3. No one can prove that Jesus was married and no one can disprove that he wasn’t.

There is absolutely no proof whatsoever that he was married, and there is plenty that he was. There's not a scholar alive in his right mind that would tell you that there's evidence he was married.

When I got to college I took a religion class where the priest taught us different ways to read the bible. I had no idea that Adam and Eve were parables and not real people. From there on in, I took bible readings with a grain of salt.

You know why you had no idea? Because it's not true. There is nothing to back up that assumption, other than lack of human faith in the Bible. A weak case to toss aside stuff as figurative metaphor

Have you ever wondered how women went from being worshiped to being almost nothing? The Church. The Church just loves having power. Did you know that women of the Revolutionary War have been written out of history - many facts we have about women in the war comes from journals and letters? Why? Men of the church.

I think that Da Vinci Code was a great thing - it got people to think and question.

To be honest, that's a load of garbage. It was, however, largely ‘inspired’ (debate rages over whether it was actually lifted) by a book by three historians : ‘Holy Blood, Holy Grail’. Whether their research is accurate or not, I can’t say. But the book is based on their research and Dan Brown’s.

That's interesting, I honestly had no idea, actually. But still, who did the research doesn't have any effect on the fact that just about all of the claims made in the book are completely bogus.

There are countless books, most of them having been written and printed way before the Da Vinci Code even was an idea in Dan Brown’s mind, about Mary Madgalene and her role in Jesus’s life. It is a theory. Not necessarily the truth, but not just Dan Brown’s imagination either.

Yes, it has been a theory for a while, and there are many who subscribe to it, but the same can be said about UFOs in Maine.

History is a very fascinating thing. My belief is that it is a foolish man who can assert he knows what truly happened when he wasn’t there himself.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Here's why:

A large part of the new testament was written shortly after the life of Jesus (after he ascended). The books were written by followers of Jesus who spent three years of their life following him everywhere he went.

The books that Dan Brown based his claims off of were written hundreds of years later. While they have names such as "The gosple of Thomas" and "The gosple of Judas" they were not in fact written by those people, but were given those names so that the people that wrote them would be seen with a bit more credibility.

So, people that lived with Jesus and wrote down accounts that all match up not long after he left earth say one thing, and people over a hundred years later who were just random people who never saw Jesus say another that is totally contradictory- which one do you believe?

Re: The Da Vinci Code

but what is the proof that this account was accurately transcribed or translated? That it was not edited/modified as the years went by, to suit the ideas someone who had enough power wanted to propagate?

Because there have been countless translations of the Bible from the original text, and all of them have been virtually identical. Hundreds of expert scholars and translators working over hundreds of years don't colaborate and decide how they want things translated.

Did you ever play the phone game where you whisper a secret in someone’s ear and after 10 people, the last person says something different than the first person? Now try saying it in different languages.

Fun game, faulty analogy. As I said, the Bible has only been translated once- From Greek/Hebrew/other languages into English. Hundreds of scholars over the years have translated the Bible. All of the translations are virtually the same.

Re: General Clean Up

Much better. I thought you were starting a fight based on an offhand comment in one of his posts, but when he does a whole write-up on it he's obviously asking for it.

All I can say is I'm glad I wasn't raised that way. Thus while their kids were growing up they pretended to hate each other and told their kids never to go near the neighbor's kid.

And guess what happened?

Re: BlogHer: where the feminist victimhood agenda is at

You're going to have the roof come down on you in a minute, but you're dead-on.

Next what, an organization for non-american bloggers?

Re: Is Robert Scoble a good parent? is exposing a 12 year old to online porn and gambling a good thing?

Dunc- please, delete this spam

Re: Surpass Hosting Sucks, or the problem with shared hosting

Three hosts that I have seen universaly recommended and have yet to see a single valid complaint against are Media Temple, Bluehost, and A Small Orange.

Dreamhost is good as long as you don't plan on running a massive dynamic site like wordpress where it starts to crash the database that they cram with customers

Re: Halfway through my blog vacation (change in comment policy)

I applaud the move to moderated comments, but that's a heck of a lot of extra work for you to moderate everything. My biggest problem with moderated comments is not censorship (sp?) but that conversations die more easily. If an authors out and you're having a debate in the comments, it takes hours for things to get approved and readers can't talk.

OTOH, you probably check back here every hour or so, so it's not as big of a deal....

Re: LiewCF.com is PageRank 6!

I'm getting a pr of 5 for you on the toolbar (yes! that evil toolbar)

Re: Install Internet Explorer 6 on Linux

Why the #%$& would you want to?

:)
