The lens is the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF. It has a nice macro mode.

I'm surprised they're still in business. We eventually got our money back from them, but it was pure hell calling them over and over again, getting hung-up on, etc. I offered to come up there and settle it in person since I was only about 45 minutes down the interstate from their office. They didn't like that too much.

Yeah. If it was during the day I would have tried to do that. With the low light and the car and the camera moving, my test shots were blurred beyond readability. And that was at 1600 ISO. So I decided I should pull over at the right time.

I don't want you to think we haven't done our best to get this resolved. The lone CSR refuses to pass you along to anyone else. We've called over there 6 or 7 times and always get the same person. We've attempted to contact the owner directly. His secretary was as nasty as the CSR, informing us "your're not allowed to call here anymore." We've filed a complaint with the BBB, even spoke with their local police just to see if they had any insight. The local police gave us a lot of info about the business, but couldn't offer anything more than taking it to a civil court.
It sounds to me like they're a company that's very close to going under, holding on to what cash they can. Looking at recent posts around the internet, current customers are experiencing longer and longer delays receiving product in the mail.
In the end, this is exactly why credit card companies offer the purchase protections that they do. And that's the route we're taking.

I'm going to call that out as lame, considering that entire lower area has been built up from marshland over the last couple hundred years. The Lincoln Memorial sits where water used to.

in M on Vista Auto Updates on MidnightCheese
I was working on a large After Effects project a few months ago on Vista, literally got up for two minutes to get something from the other room, and the machine had rebooted for automatic updates... Obviously I lost some work that time. Amazing it does that without prompting and without sending open apps a call to ask users to save their work.

Dude.. I saw some NYC people interviewed on the Weather Channel talking about how it was so HOT their balls were sweating off. Then the weather people busted out with.. "Expect a high of 84 in NYC today.." Lametards. ;)

My desktop is a couple years old(Pentium D), but I haven't really used Vista enough on that machine to say anything about it. However, just setting up Merredith's machine on the home network and such, Vista does feel much more solid than XP. The only weird thing is settings and control panels are more difficult to get to, often buried several clicks deep with lots of explanation text of what you're clicking on.

I think they totally did the bare minimum just to appease M$.
The laptop actually had to be returned. It began to regularly lock-up on boot-up, even after doing a fresh system reinstall. Eventually it wouldn't boot at all. So it was returned and Merredith ended up getting an HP. It was one of the smaller models... 14" screen. The HP has been great. It's light and it functions, so that's definitely a good thing. If I had to buy a laptop to run Linux on, I would probably buy one of those, assuming there are drivers for all the hardware. Definitely a nice little laptop.

In my case it definitely tracks what I'm using. I leave iTunes open 24/7 so other folks on the network can listen to my library, however, iTunes hardly shows much use time at all. Excellent use of Excel, btw.

Thanks. It was a good learning experience. I had wanted to do this some time ago, but finally made myself figure it out since we were getting ready to do some gadgets for work as well.

3 hours and 15 minutes. Take a break when the second film starts. The opening credits are perfect bathroom break length and there's really nothing to miss for those few minutes. (Probably done that way on purpose.)
It's one of those films you should see in the theater. The way it's treated and the mock coming attractions make it worthy.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll look and see what's involved.

Sorry about the security code, Lesley. Was it just difficult to read, or were there more issues? I need to find a better method, but just haven't found anything yet. Unfortunately it's necessary in order to keep the thousands of comment spams from hitting the site every day.

The widget randomly pulls from the database when a request is made. We haven't really talked about how we're going to order the web gallery. At the moment I think we have it set to display sorted by row ID. I figure we should probably do that, starting with the newest first just to keep the content fresh whenever you navigate to the page. Any ideas are welcome, however.
