I agree you 100%. Ashton Kutcher has indeed emotionally blackmailed many with promises of buying 10,000 bed nets to help fight malaria. He will actually make much more out of this compared to what he will spend on the nets. Using Africa in order to achive his selfish goals!

in When it Comes to Search, Yahoo is Big in Japan on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Softbank owns about 40% of Yahoo Japan while Yahoo of the United States owns 33%. Looks like Softbank's huge influence has helped to shape Yahoo Japan according to the liking of the Japanese people.

South Korea is the world's most connected "information society" in the world. If USA and Canada really want to match them, they should try to plan ahead of the times. Otherwise, this game of chasing the Korean innovation will not work at all. Lets see what the Obama team will do.

Wow! So young.Happy Birthday, Matt. Thanks for giving us Wordpress. I consider Wordpress to be a better piece of innovation than Facebook.

How many users does Myspace have and how long will it take for Facebook to overtake them assuming that they both continue to grow at their present rates.

I really do not understand why people in the West are so obsessed about breasts. In South Africa, women can easily go about bare breasted and it is not an issue at all.

It is written he who does not work must not eat. And if someone does not eat, he dies. Similarly, he who does not take an effort to write blog posts on his own and just relies on this new spammer (Wordpress Direct) to create posts for him, he must not get any traffic and his blogs must die. I eagerly look forward to the demise of Wordpress Direct because it undermines the fundamental objective of blogging. In my view, the fundamental objective of blogging is to create an online community where we can share information and build one another.

in Wordpress Direct Misses The Point on Sui Generis
I agree with you 100%.Blogging is about the community exchanging ideas and building one another. Money might come in only as a by-product. Unfortunately, these days money is taking a centre stage. But is there a way to reverse this trend?

Derrick Kwa Is there a way to reverse this trend? Interesting question.

I think that the trend will reverse itself naturally. In time, as people see that doing it just for money isn't going to work, they'll stop trying it. And only the passionate ones will stay on. When it gets tough, those that aren't in it for love of the community and what they're doing - they'll leave. At least that's what I think.

As for what we can do now, I think all we can do is to build awareness and lead by example. That's the only way we can show the true value of blogging, and it isn't money.

I don't have all the answers, of course, so I'd love to hear what you (and others out there) think of it - what do YOU think we can do to reverse the trend?

in Google PageRank Update! Does it Really Matter? on Sizlopedia
I do not think that this ToolBar PR should really be making shockwaves in the blogosphere. It is just a number and it does not really depict the quality of the blog. I have seen some great blogs having a small PR but they are excelling in terms of readership, comments, RSS subscribers, revenue.

Advertizers need to stop rating blogs based on TBPR.They should rather be looking at parameters such RSS feeds, comments, traffic rates. etc.

in Comment Spam Warning Signs on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
Andy

Thanks for the tips. Since my blog is a dofollow one, I usually receive junk comments. These tips will help me a great deal.

But can someone help me explain this scenario. I sometimes receive junk comments on my blog but when I check my web stats I don't notice any visitors during that particular period.Usually when someone leaves a comment on my blog, the timing of the comment corresponds to the time of the visit in my web stats. How do these guys leave comments on my blog without being tracked by the web stat application? Is my blog still secure?

in PageRank Update – Beware Of Link Exchange Offers on Andy Beard - Internet Business Systems Discussion
iwebtool's pr checker is terrible at the moment. Most data centers seem to be down while the pr from the ones that are up is incoherent. Some even show a pr bigger than 10 (e.g. 35).

Thats why I hate this buying buying business. Why cant these big companies just come up with their own innovations from a scratch and support them all the way up. The original Feeburner should have been offering a far much better service by now.

In the same line of thinking a Microsoft owned Yahoo! will be crap :(
