in Seeking Happiness on Learn To Duck
I don't think it actually has anything to do with the work itself but your own attitude and overall life situation. For instance there are plenty of people who are happy even though they have horrible jobs, and even a dream job, over time will start to feel like a regular job. So I think you have the right idea about finding a good balance and just staying on track to do the things that really make you happy.

in Understanding value on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
nice write up, and its the same with any markets people will exploit the undervalued items. There are already a bunch of arbitrage guides for making money at the WOW auction houses, and overall there are a lot of lessons to be learned from this pretend market.

There's definitely a stronger foreign presence, since it's a pretty simple formula to follow, all they have to do is take whats working in the US and be the first to apply it to their region.

in World of Warcraft is the new MBA on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
Nice analogy, but it makes sense that people would treat this with the seriousness of a real market because the in game gold can actually be sold for real currency as well as characters so their is external motivation for analyzing the in game market beyond having a successful character.

in Report: Facebook looking to raise more money, fast on VentureBeat
Another way to see if the economy is driving down ad buys would be to compare facebook to Google for a better estimation. AdWords has always dominated FB's advertising and it would be a much better indicator of how much money advertisers are spending.

in I Hate Experts on How To Split An Atom
You're right Ophelia SEO experts are the worst, since they make guarantees which not only can they not deliver but are against many of Google's policies. The worst is when they try to trick people by using their adwords certified badge to somehow associate that they're trusted and recognized by Google.

You are right about the badges. On LinkedIn there are groups you can join w/o any vetting, there are some people who belong to 20+ groups, and it has no relation at all to their quality of service. As well as other badges given out by blog aggregators, those badges are given out only to drive traffic back to the aggregator, and the more they give out the better for them.

in There’s More to Tracking than Conversion on The Michel Fortin Blog
great article, you find this a lot with beginners who don't know how to see the bigger picture value of what they're doing. Similar to sticking with a high paying cpa offer because you like the idea of getting 10 bucks per sign up when in reality a lower but better converting offer will earn u more in the long run.

nice advice especially since the worst of what's to come hasn't hit yet and more and more folks will be in need of a helping hand.

I have always found that in times of need,we respond. There will be families homeless, more unemployed, and a winter coming up that some seniors will be hard pressed to pay for heating oil.
Small gestures now go a long way. A smile, a kind word. Even a box of non perishable food dropped off to your local church or food bank goes a long way. :O) thanks for commenting.

very well written, aside from engaging in bad marketing methods you can't blame that pr person, I hate to say that they're just doing their job but at the same time you can't let events out of your control influence the way you do your work, as long as your methods are proven. But I do agree that your strategy has to reflect current market conditions something that's probably above the pay grade of a twitter spammer.

You are right. Good points there. Good marketers know when to market and when not to. You don't sell matches after a major forest fire, nor do you ignore a crashing stockmarket to announce a website. Wait a few hours or even a day. Even though there are forces none of us can control, we can learn how to guide our clients through those times in a thoughtful and market considerate way.

in Don’t Read This Post Because Of The Title on How To Split An Atom
great post, it's true that the internet is the last egalitarian outlet where anyone can gain fame or fortune whether it be micro celebrity or more. Also I think this is what separates Bloggers from affiliate marketers, I think Bloggers have much more pressure to deliver engaging and meaningful content to build a readership and brand that can then be monetized, as opposed to Aff marketers who just focus on selling.

I agree, Affiliate Marketers get to separate themselves from the sale in many cases. It most, in fact, it is probably better to do so (I've heard some, erm, interesting, stories from Aff Marketers about their tactics). As a blogger, your "sale" is yourself -- you're tied to it and you almost have to be.
Thanks for visiting! :O) ophelia
