in Would you Like Some Tea with your Wine? The Undiscovered Perfect Pairing! on Catavino
I'm not half biased, but the Malawi teas Henrietta has are definitely worth a try. I'm sipping on a Malawi Black (TGFBOP1 from Balaka) as I type this. A very civilised wake-up.

If of you get a chance, try the unique Malawi Antlers. You'll understand when you do!

Sorry I missed this. Can't complain about the company and wines I had elsewhere, but would have been great to meet all, esp Henrietta who was off the next day to my old stomping grounds on the slopes of Thyolo Mountain!

Opai. Where do you guys get these wines from? To save me doing the rounds, would you know of potential stockists in Jerez?

Any chance of getting someone in be they blogger, grower, or whoever who has improved their bottom line as a direct result of Web 2.0? Would be very interesting to hear from someone like that...

Carrie Jorgensen Justin, in the current economic situation, noone is improving their bottom line! We are all just trying to keep overheads to a minimum, and hoping that people will be able to afford to keep drinking wine!

"No need for nordic politically correct vaccinations out here....yet"

What a strange comment Troy. I'm still not sure exactly what you mean, and for all you know Gabriella might well be three quarters Navajo. Slightly insulting to Nordic people if anything.

If you could be bothered to read Gabriella's brilliant piece again you'll see that, unlike yourself, she was making an observation - not any kind of judgement, least of all "politically correct".

Like Gabriella, I've also noticed that "locals", as you like to call them, in my inland and very Spanish town, tend to drink alcohol with meals and tend not to drink it between meals. The only people in my town able to spend all and any hour of the day in bars having a drink are the "parados", the unemployed. As I'm sure you already know Extremadura has one of the highest rates of unemployment in the European Union, so I imagine the people you have noticed are some of the many Extremeños in this unfortunate position.

VERY interesting to watch this video, and interesting comments from Steve, Lindsay and Michael. I agree with Steve, Tio Pepe should not be dismissed - I think all the own-label stuff in UK supermarkets has done a lot more damage. I also agree that bodegas like Tradicion, Lustau/Caballero, and don't forget Fernando de Castilla, are showing the way. These bodegas are producing the type of wine which made Sherry famous in the first place.

Young people like, like Paul Shinnie's nephew, might not go out and buy a bottle of Fino, but there's no reason why things might not develop to a point where that will happen in the future. It's up to the bodegas, the consejo and the trade in general. There is a lot they need to get right.

in Spanish Wine Tasting: Grasping Our Understanding of Spanish Wine Vocabulary on Catavino
What a great post Ivan.

Here in Jerez they seem to speak a different language when it comes to describing the wines.

I learned two new ones today. When a wine has been chilled and becomes slightly hazy, it is said to be "triste" and when a wine drawn straight from the butt is very bright and shiny it is "rompecopas"...

in Where is the Future of Wine Tourism Heading? A Summary of The Wine Pleasures Conference on Catavino
I hate to be a pedant up front, but it's Kristall KellerEi as in German for Winery.
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kellerei

It was really interesting following the conference and as for some of the points:

1. What's that 24hr business all about? Really! What your visitors do before/afterwards might be interesting is as far as helping you improve your offer but I think that's about it.

2. I think it's a no-brainer to have a well translated (and interpreted, not just literally translated) English website. Badly translated and at best you amuse the native speakers and confuse the rest - at worst you put people off.

3. It goes without saying. Why not make the pie bigger, rather than slugging it out for a larger slice of a diminishing pie.

7. I hope so/ Ek hoop so/ Ich hoffe so!
