in Jim Cramer’s Latest Feud on Pimp Your Finances
I think that being an expert is a game of chance, being right or wrong....50% chance of success. So there will always be those on this side and those on the other side. Time will settle who was right. My thoughts are with the Prof.

This is just like spreading goodwill. Ask not what you can do for me....but what I can do for you, kind of thing.

Having said that, whilst I know the so called theory, I am quite a dunderhead failure at this so important art.

in Bank Negara Warns on Illegal Money Dealings on Meshio.com - a Malaysia personal finance blog
Regulating MLM? I thought that was being done. Perhaps the issue is enforcement. After all we have problems in proper enforcement in many other areas too.

yowchuan Yes, the MLM industry is infested with too many bad eggs, and there doesn't seem to be any serious attempts by the incumbents to at least practice some level of self-regulation, which would act to protect consumers and the reputation of the industry.

One just can't help but to think that in the end, the MLM industry is just all about the money.

in everything will be fine on brip blap
My daughter says that the definition of insanity is doing the same things and expect different results.

If we ask ourselves, what is being done differently now, I wonder what the results would be. Just saying "it will be fine" doesn't count.

I share your opinion, Steve. Somewhere along the line, some of the broken things have to be fixed. One of the first should be to make those in positions of authority be accountable.

Just voting them out or sacking CEOs doesn't seem to be much of a deterrent.

I did not know that there was a pi day. Though I have been using this number quite a but lately with my son (he is doing areas of circles and stuff like that), I had no clue that pi could be describve the way you did.

But then I am no mathematician.

My wife and I are exact opposites. I am a case of having "overstudied" and so I worry and fuss about so many things that almost nothing gets done. My wife goes about life cheerfully and seems to get a lot more done.

in Think Subscriptions End Automatically? Think Again on Pimp Your Finances
Looks like the company expected such cancellations and planned to make it tough. Looks like there is no honour in business.

And based on Serene Journey's experience, there might be a market for people to use the gym on a per use basis.
The David They definitely went out of their way to make sure that people would fall for an extra two membership fees after the "expiration date".

What's frustrating about their lack of honor is that I was a good customer, and was happy with the gym. I probably would not have renewed my subscription, but I would have at least considered it in the future if I find I have more time/motivation to exercise.

Instead, they pissed away a happy customer.

I think there definitely would be a market for a per use gym. Sure, you wouldn't have the guarenteed revenue, but there would be no shortage of people coming in, even if they were never the same people for very long.

in trickle down on brip blap
I wonder if all this moving down will result in a great shift of people worldwide. For example someone who might barely be able to make it in the US may live quite well in Indonesia or the Phillipines.

I am sure there will be restrictions such as visas and what not, but I strongly suspect that many small businesses from all over are going to do some major moving around.

in how to check out a hoax on brip blap
These scammers know that lots of people are basically greedy. And lazy. With the internet they can send off invitations to a gazillion people and sure enough some will bite.

The Malaysian Government has issued a statement that they are considering issuing a policy directive that Heads of Departments will be punished if their staff fall prey to scams. I am not sure how this will work though. Still it is proof that many Malaysians are good at coming up with scams and many more are great at falling for them.

BTW, I thought Major Ugba was dealing exlusively with me!

in 7 Facts About Teen Dating Abuse: Smothering and Obsessive Youth on Radical Parenting
I am a dad and we almost had this problem when one of our daughters started dating a real "ne're do well". It never came to the stage as shown in the picture.

My wife and I managed to convince our girl that this guy was a deadbeat. It is now history.

More parents should know and understand this problem.

Great points! Still some things, by definition would have to be too big to fail. Like our health, family perhaps for many, etc.

On the material things, you have made a whole new perspective on diversifying.

Looks like Maxis has learnt the art of how not to make friends and alienate people. Hehe

Luckily there are blogs like yours that point out the devious ways of these huge corporations and the ways and means to counter them. I have a Maxis phone and my daughter has recommended that we switch to Digi. This has been passed at a family meeting. It's off to DIGI soon.

in paying for a missing item on brip blap
I am living in a glass house, so I do not want to throw stones. Still this discusion is very interesting.

I would look at this as taking advantage of someone's mistake. And since I would not want someone to do the same to me, I'll be trying my best not to do that to others.

If I had noticed the missing item in the bill, I would have told the manager or the owner.

But beating a red light, especially in the early hours of the morning when there is no one around, that's fine with me. In fact, very fine.

in what to do if you like your job but hate your career… on brip blap
You know the saying. If we cannot get up with a spring in our step and a smile on our face each morning as we leave for work, the warning signs are there.

Well, I have left my job and my so called career. Now I have a completely new career minus the business class travel, fine dining and the other usual perks. And abundant freedom.

Still working on translating this into comparable $$$$.

Now you are telling me! We have 5!.

But seriously, the kids have made a difference in our lives. I accept that we have to spend more when we have children. My wife and I sincerely believe that whenever we have children, a little door opens up there and a little more favours are granted to the parents.

I think I'll forward this gem of an article to him.

in what desperation looks like on brip blap
You are right about the desperation part. When in Ghana, there were a couple of times (actually more than a couple) when we had to pay salaries late. The Ghanaians took it well. (we always explained). The Malaysians who were with us in Ghana, some of them went just short of beserk.

It shows just how razor thin the income minus expenditure equation is for so many people.

Hope your situation turns out ok.
