See, this is why we should all go back to the paper note book and planner and LP records. We would than not be disappointed when Apple might come out with a new product. And we would not feel bad when that brand new gizmo is all of a sudden outdated. Of course, being the techno junky I am, that will never happen in my office either.

This is a great app that I have been using for over a year. Love it, love it, love it.

It really can save a lot of time typing everything from addresses to URL’s. I would urge every Mac user to try it.

I do plan to get one. However,I am waiting the 2nd generation comes out. Give Apple time to make some upgrades and for more 3rd party apps to arrive. The iPhone will change the way we look at the cell phone and mobile computing. I truly believe this is just the tip of the iceberg with what Apple will be introducing in the next couple of years. Are we seeing the early adoption of a touch screen iTablet? Now that would be fun.

iPhone my good man. iPhone!!!!!!!!! It is like carrying my trusty MacBook in my pocket. I can access my email either on the AT&T Edge network. Which by the way, is faster than my Treo was. Or if wifi is available, I use its built in wifi ability. Not only that, with some of the great web based applications available, I can access my Mac Mini from anywhere and get into client files from anywhere. I can also check my Grandcentral voicemails with my iPhone. I can receive faxes too. And yes, I can read documents and edit them with ZOHO. So take that Treo users.

Jonathan is right. A custom designed blog is not for everyone and the decision to have one should be thought out completely. But at the same time you should be asking yourself what you are wanting to accomplish by doing a blog. If it is marketing and promoting your firm, maybe a well thought out, professionally designed blog will say a lot about you and your firm. At the same time, I have seen some great "off the shelf" blogs out there. Which is why not everyone has a professionally designed blog and why everyone shouldn't.

OK, everyone, this is a great place to keep the conversation going. I do not have available to me conference rooms or other attorney's offices to use. I make house calls, use the courthouse law libraries or confernece rooms. I have never had anyone say they would not hire me because I don't have a "downtown" office. In fact, I get more comments to the fact I actually make housecalls.

OMG, I have not laughed that hard at a comment on the HOL blog in a long time. But, you know Chuch you are right. They just don't understand. How can we bill for our time when we are on a vacation? Flat Fees help. And, how will I keep in touch with clients and the courts while away. Humm, can you say, "Connected Lawyer." Let me explain to the "others". It is called a Treo 650 and a Mac iBook with a Airport card and BlueTooth. I am sure I will be fine and so will my clients.
And if I am lucky, I will get to meet another HOL while in Albuquerque.

I rarely if ever meet clients at my house. Usually the only time I do, and this is because I live in a small town, is when I know the person very, very well.

Never been an issue. And if I am so busy I don't have time to visit, I just change my status accordinly. Not only do I use IM'ing with clients. I also use SMS (text messaging) via the cell phone with them too. I have a great program on my Treo called YourCall. It gives me the option to do something with a call when it comes in. And if I am busy and can't take the call, I have the option to send them a SMS. So far the clients I have done this with really appreciate the fact they are not being ignored and know right away I am unavilable.

Greg- I am a little shocked at that comment. I have used both entry methods and I love the keyboard on the Treo. There is actually a software you can purchase and put on your Treo that also allows you to use stylus-based text input.

Yes on linking all information you need. It works great for that. Daylite will do basic document production. I need to spend some time looking into that feature more.
There is work being done on a new product that will have built into it document production very similar to HotDocs.

I average 15 to 20 inquires a week and 2 to 3 new clients a week.

Actually Bob, not at all. I find it faster and easier than my Treo. The key with the iPhone is to trust the smart typing it does for you. Usually if I make a mistake and hit return, it corrects it for me and I keep right on going. No back spacing to correct.

I will do a post. But I thought I would respond briefly to you on your question.
I too have a laptop. A MacBook what is wonderful. I carry it with me ALMOST everywhere I go. Almost is the key. I also use a PDA, previously a Treo and now the iPhone. So no matter where I am or what I have with me, I have my entire office in my pocket or my MacBook. I can also access my office server with my iPhone via a webbased application. That way if a client needs a document I don't have with me, I can send it to them. I can do the same thing with my MacBook, but, again, there are times i don't have it with me.
I don't like paper calendars. I do however, back up my computer based/PDA calendar in many forms. Paper being one of them. I have been a PDA user for sometime and just can't imagine not having one. Sync’ing is a breeze now too. Most of them will sync seamlessly to your computer either by Bluetooth or USB cable. It really depends on what computer system you use.
For me the biggest reason for the PDA is it is simple. I always have it with me. And the iPhone is nothing like I have ever used before.
