It's become little more than a scrolling Twitter lately... sigh...

Ultimately I feel the Karma back fired as many peeps I know have been frustrated with it. If you think a day off is painful, try taking 3-5 days off.... it is mildly insulting really.

If you ask me we've gone backwards lately... losing features not gaining... grumble mumble....

Re: Social Media Marketing and the Skeptics

Hiya... thanks for dropping by on this conversation and adding some conmentary. I thought that was what it is for? Not to 'play it safe'? If legitimate webmasters start to use it... then there will actually be more networked linkspam links out there in comparison to legitimate links since the good peeps are afraid to show ANY link love.... it could be troubling.

Google may have started it, but who perpetuates it? It was funny that I couldn't find much on SEO and Analytics when researching the post; a virgin query space for the most part (weeeee).

I figure I might take a stab at using the new segmentation on some SMM stuff as well.

..and stop being a slacker!! 3 weeeks??? It is still an unknown entity. Actually, recent reports show that only 26% of B2B respondents expect to raise SMM budgets next year (compared to Search at 62%).

As with many branding exercises, there is no readily available measurements that show it as a viable short term marketing investment. That is the crux of the issue, ROI. Larger companies have such branding activity budgets, SMBs do not.

SMM marketers still need to establish value. This was (and is to a certain extent) the problems faced by SEO people... so I have to say adoption of SMM will still be slow in 2008....

2c

Re: University Follows Text-Book Format for Suing Google

Yuppers.... I was thinking out of court settlement when I first read it yesterday. Man, I simply GOTTA find a way to sue Google... anyone... hmmmmmmm.... I find the sign of success in the blog-o-sphere at least, is when the trolls, hackers and spammers set their sights on you merely to (try and) cause some grief. I know that's when I realized folks were actually reading anything I jotted down.

Good luck on the staff hunting, it can be daunting. If I was a decade younger I'd jump at the opportunity to work with such luminaries (can't let Marty soak up all the flattering goodiness now can we?)

Oh and congrats once more on the trolls...

Dave

Re: User voting on search results could kill Google

I don’t think that could ever be a very strong signal/ranking mechanism in the regular index. It is likely more aimed at personalized search aspects which don’t really need to be using iGoogle to be implemented. There has been a wide variety of patent filings that deal with user performance metrics and there are many ways to gather both passively and actively. This is simply an active one. Considering this ‘experiment’ would be mostly felt in the Personalized Search world, spamming it may be difficult but not impossible. In the end I doubt such a method would ever be a strong enough signal to be a major consideration.

It was an interesting development though.

Dave

Re: SEO Friendly Friday – Keyword Optimizing, Search Marketing Tactics and SEO Guides

Hi there... glad you liked the round up ;0) - I did one last year on my personal blog and decided to do an update as things do change. We also did a sister post on learning SEO on my blog where we asked some experts for their thoughts ( http://www.huomah.com/Search-Engines/Learn-SEO/... )

Strangely, no two people see it the same. We each learn in our own way and SEO is no different.

Anyway, thanks for the mention Gary... hope to C U around!

Dave
