as for the other one, I didn't have any other synonymns other than 'Illegitimate offspring' (too tacky, no?) so I stuck with the big B* world to accurately describe Via's commitment to its Unichrome users. The chipset's (lack of)support prevented me from switching to linux full-time for 2 years. So, i'm quite majorly pissed at the 2bit company.

Now Intel GMA 9xx series is a whole different story. I never was a fanboy of Intel or any shop, but their committment to good drivers for their products is worth a cheer. And its cheap too. Compiz Fusion works out of the box. Life is finally the way I like it. Simple.

Linux support for Unichrome was a bitch until a week before my VIA-based laptop went up in smoke. (spring, 2K7)
There are no words to describe the hell involved in getting OpenGL woking on those things. I guess OpenSuse is nice in this regard. Congrats. :)

Maths: till quite recently, I abhorred it.
Calculus was and still is the bane of my academic life(for precisely the reason you give in the first para) No one told me in Class 11,12 why the fsck i was studying a bunch of dumb derivations and tricky ones at that. Is maths supposed to be rote learning? and all that jazz...

Apart from that, I've only recently learnt that i have good aptitude for raw numbers and algebra, quantitative reasoning, etc
So, for practical problems of everyday life, I quickly learnt to apply statistics and linear equations to solve them easily.(famously so when calculating the break-even points for various mobile recharge offers, that actually aren't that great value :P)

IMO thats about all you need in most walks of life(even if you become a so-called software engineer, whatever the fsck that is....)
