in Video: Panel on “Monetization and Business Models for Flash Games” on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen
Hey Andrew-
Wondering if you can give me some advice on how to approach developing a unique flash game. If you have the time, I have some real basic/dumb questions haha

By chance, do you know Craig Johansen from RevScience?

Have an idea re: capitalizing on the splintering if you're interested. Shared it with Howard a few weeks back but I don't think he really let it marinate. Maybe he did and thought it sucked : ) Who knows???

I'm looking to bounce the idea around and get feedback from people that might have valuable input.

Bob Ramsey McCain abandoned his core beliefs and let himself be "handled" into oblivion. Seems like Obama just grew stronger in relation to this. I'm just hoping that we get some real leadership soon...

in Is Volatility Embedded in the System for a Generation? on Information Arbitrage
Good post. Doom and gloom but it is a more than reasonable progression, and one that I am increasingly expecting. Rate cuts CANNOT provide a sustainable fix and when they do cut rates we'll be staring at inflation and the beginning of the volatile whipsaw you discussed.

Our system functions on borrowed (and of late, hyper-leveraged) dollars and at some point, we all have to pay the piper. The longer that reality is ignored by all actors, the greater the pain will be during the inevitable correction.

All this makes me feel like US monetary policy is a futile short-term manipulation attempting to buy more time until the reality of a debt-based, fiat system comes home to roost.

Thomas Jefferson calls from the grave.

I don't know what the end will even look like.

What does this earnings season look like taking into consideration the $AA report tonight?

in The Meltdown is Upon Us…Now What? on Howard Lindzon
Great post- haven't had time to click through all the hyperlinks but had a couple quick thots---I'm attempting to write my first paid article.

AAPL IS solid. GOOG is solid. AMZN is a huge part of the future if not THE "digital mall" of the future (I still don't like a 43 PE though).

Having said that, the short/med-term is a big unknown right now. Some people run for cover. Some- like you- test the waters. Short-term prices are going to fluctuate-- even the solid ones. Everyone just needs to chill and quit adding panic to the meltdown.

Closing thought- did the US Govt set a dangerous precedent with the bailout?

Excellent Sunday-night post!

Dear Mr. Hefley,
Are you serious when you offer "Internet Sales" (why the CAPS?) figures for Life Ionizers as evidence of underlying strength in the economy?

The University of Phoenix would like to extend you an honorary Ph.D in Economics. A short bus of distinguished recipients include you...and Sarah Palin.

Keep up the extensive reading-

in BAILOUT! on Howard Lindzon
Just took a look at one of your posts (Thinking About Investing Young)-- I like the idea of a simple, "just getting started fund" that could be pushed, as you said, creatively.

I think you are exactly right that college-grads have no clue what they are buying.

Interesting. Might be hard to get rolling, but maybe you could network to the right fund manager that understands the power of the "young investor" segment and is looking for some creative marketing.

I put you in my blogroll. Feel free to keep in touch/bounce ideas--- always looking to build my social leverage...

Anyone up for a over/under on the DOW today?

Howard-
Do you understand how FDIC seizure works? I don't understand how JPM pays 1.9B for 300B in assets with no liabilities or how WM can turn down a $4/share buyout offer that would have at least given shareholders a chance.

Talk about good timing with the "big move call". I was feeling the same way last Friday- posted that I thought we were still flirting with support and another big shock would rock us. I thiiiiink 4.5% counts as getting rocked.

in Apple is Worth More Than Google…Correctamundo! on Howard Lindzon
Gravity has velocity?

Nothing like a good physics rip to start the day right? No? Moving on...

Apple is king for three reasons: they made the best product (iPod/iPhone family), they were the first to deliver it and Jobs. The first two largely, arguable entirely, resulting from the latter. Apple is now making up for the time that msft stole with strong-arm business tactics/Gates genius business strategy. They have always been the innovator and delivered what consumers want.

It is hard to make a competitive advantage last forever UNLESSSSS your CA is a company culture focused on innovation and progressive change- which is difficult to pull off. Even then, the innovator will always hold an advantage over the incumbent in at least one area: they don't have to battle inertia/"the way weve always done it" mentality and processes.

How many years from now will Google be the out-dated dinosaur? Dunno. Less time than it took for GM to become obsolete. Less time than it will take/has taken(???) for Microsoft. Info Age will continue to compress the innovation, adoption, out-to-pasture cycle. It also shifts the balance of power to the rightful market participant: the consumer.

Time for the sun. Adios-
