in Expanding on the role of middlemen in stock photography. on Taylor Davidson
I think your middleman is actually a middlewoman!
The future of editing (whatever it means) is actually search. Better search tools. Not better editing tools.

Taylor Davidson The eternal problem with gender-specific terms to describe business, shame on me.

But I agree; whether we call it editing, filtering or search is unimportant (at least to justify my own regular butchering of language); the supply isn't going away, so we're going to have to find better ways to find what we want.

in Playing goalie: why do they do it? on Goaliegirl.com
I used to play goalie (soccer and handball) and I loved it because: the buck stopped with me. I was the last defense mechanism for the team and there wasn't a better feeling in the world. Nothing can replace the "you have to get past me bro' to score" and I am going to make it as hard as hell. You just keep on trying and trying and trying. I miss it! Keep on trucking!

Amen. Work, work, work, work and then when you are tired: work some more. Ideas are a dime a dozen. And by the way stop day dreaming about running, grab your running shoes today (we are Monday!) and run over to the Ideeplex. I know it is only 1 km for you but hey you got to start somewhere! I am with you with the running business. I have fallen of the running train and it is so so hard to get back. Nice post Jev!

Great to see continuous additions to startupnorth and the startupindex. I for one would find it interesting to find out about startups in areas of Canada I am not familiar with. We all seem to live pretty much in our respective backyards so this is a nice way to get out. + I live the fact that it is visual! Keep up the features!

in Hitting The Reset Button on A VC
Oh darn. darn. darn. Ok biking it is then. I pray my knees don't give out. If I can't run I don't know what I will ever do. Good luck. Keep us posted on your reset!

in Hitting The Reset Button on A VC
Fred: it is very simple: running is your answer. I know you received over a hundred comments about what to do. Forget about all the comments that are not centered on running. Running is your answer. And if you really need to combine it with something else you can add some biking (mountain biking preferably). You got any running shoes around? Grab them and get outside. Now.

in I love my city, and so should you on StartupNorth
Well that's an awesome post. Amen. Was actually thinking about this after the conference at Mars on Wednesday. I have a draft post brewing but you beat me to this. I will still post, being an adopted Canadian and all, my perspective is a bit different and yet very close I will come back and comment after the weekend. Great post Jev.

in Flickr Commons: A great idea, but… on Mathew's comments
Matthew: this is really fantastic! from Matt Raymond, the Library of Congress chief blogger: "One of our goals, frankly, is to learn as much as we can about that power simply through the process of making constructive use of it." I believe that people with interest in these photographs will tag them best they can, the Library of Congress will review the tags as their stated goal is to see if these tags and classification can actually feed back into the Library of Congress catalog. We trust they won't be doing this blindly!
