I would love to spend some time living in the USA, but I fear leaving Canada because I get such great healthcare here... and I hear horror stories about the American healthcare system. I think the main difference is that in the USA you need a job to have healthcare, right? In Canada you can be unemployed and still receive, for example, cutting edge chemotherapy or a heart transplant for "free".

I was upset to see Jenny spreading her anti-vaccine mantra on Oprah a few months ago. Lots of people are going to see that and think that Oprah has endorsed the antivax movement. In Canada, the Canadian Paediatric Society found no link between vaccines and autism. When making a decision for my family, I also trust the doctors and medical science.

Lutefisk is fish boiled in lye. My husband's grandparents were Finnish, and they made it in their home (now my home). Apparently it smelled awful. I've never had it.

We do have a sauna. It is also Finnish.

In Vancouver, smoking laws are incredibly tight. No smoking in bars, pubs; and now, no smoking within 6 metres of any doorway to a public business or office. No smoking on school grounds (some parents at elementary school are now smoking in the alleys before they pick up their kid at 3pm). I love the new smoking rules. It is good for non-smokers and also for those trying to quit: no temptation at bars etc.

That's just nasty. I love it.
