in My 2008 Top Online Friends on The Broad Brush
Thank you so much for your friendship. Your a special person and in that way, people who are seeking true friendships are drawn to your spirit.
I totally agree with all the @SOBCOn peeps on your list, @SOBCon is the best conference ever with the best people.
Thanks for all your support on my projects, your great advice, and wonderful friendship. *You give a kiss to your better half, Nana* because she seems to only make you a better person, which is hard to find.

in The Power of e-Mail - An Interview with Trish Forant of eMailOurMilitary.com on Helping Small Business help themselves - Network Solutions
I am so proud of Trish and all that she's doing! She is providing a very valuable service that is keeping family's communicating, strong, and loved ones connected.
She's doing such a fine job, my hope is that other companies will take interest as you have, and both increase awareness that this wonderful service is available as well as encourage company's to contribute services, software, ect. to the cause.
We've all felt lonliness at times in our lives and it's one of the worst feelings I have ever felt.
Congratulations Trish and Thank you Network Solutions for being a great support for a great cause.

in SOBCon08 Lives On - Part 1 on The Broad Brush
Ah Todd, you captured the sentiment exactly. I wasn't even a blogger in May and now, I just can't shutup :-)
The diversity at SOBCon I feel was one of it's greatest attributes. I felt so at home from the start, everyone I looked at looked back and smiled. That just helped me loose that 'you know no one here' feeling. With my Moo cards in hand, with my newly printed and designed blog, not yet published, I felt secure in one thing, I had pretty Moo cards.
As I talked to people they were so creative, interesting, passionate, and real that I became almost addicted to meeting people and handing out my pretty cards. Everyone said "keep in touch, let me know when your first post is published" and I did. I keep in touch with so many of the SOBCon folks. I'm addicted to them and SOBCon. Poor me *smiles*.

Thank you Vicky. I get all excited just thinking back to those times. For being diverse, yes the creative energy was amazing.
I've found that I have been able to keep in touch with several of those folks and move beyond handshakes. Though I wouldn't mind the occasional dinner and drinks either. Ha.

in Managed Word of Mouth-Still Thinking on Chris Brogan
I think if your depending on WOM marketing than your product better be good. It raises the bar. It is a hard way to promote, but so economical that for the best products it works.
If your product or service is mediocre, it won't work. So I think it's fabulous!

Can't listen now cause I'm at work and I HEAR there's lots of swearing. Will be back to listen later.
I think tho w/o hearing it, so I'm a little uninformed that sometimes it takes swearing or something shocking to drive home what you're trying to say. :)

in Are You Living Consciously Online on Chris Brogan
On this Father's Day I would like to say Happy Father's Day to Chris Brogan and all the other dads.
I feel like I definatly need a plan to help myself prioritize my time online. There is only so much time I can spend online.
I don't overly use social media, but the time I spend on it is very important to me and I feel is a good use of my online time. I think it is important to choose well your friends and those you communicate with, not in a business sense, but what do they add to you and your overall mission.
Some are very inspiriational, others have great information, others just help me relax & have fun. I have met fabulous people, but I use 3 or 4 forms of social media and I'm not in or on everything, which I think makes a difference because I can devote more time to those 3 or 4 and both give and get more out of it.
My baby is http://RemarkableParents.com which is a newer online community of parents who help, support, and give each other tips on the most important thing in "my world" which is raising our children and giving them the tools to be 'their best'.

in Will Companies Value Your Personal Network on Chris Brogan
Chris,
Great post, food for thought. Make us think, I love that.
I'm looking at this question from the perspective of working for a large organization and why the management don't see this value.
First, I think it is because most large organizations value the status quo, little risks and a whole lot of keep doing what we've been doing. It's safe to follow the well worn path and innovation is a chance, that no one wants to take and that other managers see as a risk, which makes them feel uneasy.
Only when their is a business value, something measurable, somthing tangible like a return on investment will it catch someones eye.
Companies like Zappos and Dell are the exception, not the rule. Sad but true.
Great Post!

in The Importance of Risk on Chris Brogan
I'm doing something I love with http://RemarkableParents.com which means that I don't think about failure at all.
I've already decided what failure would have been and I've made it past that point.
I think you need to have a good idea of what the measurement of your goals are and therefore, determine in advance what success and failure would be. Otherwise, it seems like you'd always be viewing the "small" successes or failures as your success/failure metric.
Nice post, keep us thinking!

in Basic Business Blogging Suggestions on Chris Brogan
@Liz Staying focused is hard, but very necessary. I have to ask myself a few questions (when a post is in first draft)just to check myself. I do this before I completely buy-in to the content I am writing and while I am still willing to throw it away and start over.
Keep reading great blogs and you'll be fine.
Great article Chris.
