As reported in the NYT (22 June 2000), RFK Jr insisted over the objection of the board of directors of the NY Riverkeeper on hiring a personal friend named William Wegner. Said Wegner had an unusual credential. He'd spent five years in federal prison for his role in masterminding one of the largest international wildlife smuggling operations ever. It was the focus of an international investigation known as Operation Renegade, featured in a PBS documentary known as the Great Wildlife Heist. When RFK Jr refused to fire his buddy (shades of Sarah Palin), half the board resigned. The rich apparently are different from you and I. They get to have bad judgment at no personal or professional cost.
