in Tuesday Open Thread: Hi Everybody on Jack and Jill Politics
I expect McCain to receive a free ride this summer. No matter the flip-flops, the MSM will make it palatable. Not Mr. Straight-talker anymore. He's moved into pandering, big time. Interesting.
Because the election is seen as Obama's to lose, I think he's getting the negative quasi-incumbent treatment. That weird seal was indicative that he thinks he's won already.
Forget the polls. He shouldn't take it for granted: M. Dukasis made that mistake.

Obama has always struck me as simply American. I don't get why people are so vested in stereotypical behaviors. Nothing turns my stomach more than the thought that if someone is acting morally depraved or criminally, then it's "black behavior." (Imus trying to back away from his latest comments.)
That's why T. Morrison calling B. Clinton "black" made me sick. Why does someone have to be a degenerate pig to get called that? I have to shrug it off, especially when some of us embrace it so enthusiastically.
Although, maybe if Obama was brought up "black" his wife would be light skinned or white. So if he's "white", he's got great taste in pursuing and marrying Michelle.

I will not be surprised if by November, hey even October, Obama appears to the right of McCain. Not a problem to me.
I'm glad he is not the "dreamer" some folks thought. He promises to bring a gun to the knife fight. Good.
I suspect he is as liberal as this country will vote for. He may be conservative on other issues. That makes him a complex human being - like most of us are.
Andrew Sullivan, who I read occasionally, sees Obama as Machiavellian. I don't agree, or think that's necessary, but it is an acknowledgment of his intelligence. The Clinton(s) didn't see this. My guess is McCain and the Repubs don't either.
I like that. Running for President isn't for Boy Scouts.

in Obama Opts Out of Public Financing System on Jack and Jill Politics
To me public finance is money coming directly from the people, not funneled through gov't.
Keeping a promise, which would limit his reach, just to show some phony honor with a crippling campaign finance system is silly. Why should Obama let himself be a chump to the Repubs and their 527s? Why should he handicap himself?
I think he seriously considered it in the early days. From what I've read, money from the Internet exceeded expectations. Money is the least of his worries.
His numbers for Virginia are looking good.

People find who they want to (emotionally, spiritually, physically) satisfy them. Wherever they find love is a good thing.
Folks make too much of a big deal over the sex, age and color of people's partners.

Congress has a cable bill (McCain backed?) based on customer choice. You only pay for the channels you want. 'Cause right now subscribers fund / support FOX News whether they watch or not.
If that bill passed, I may watch TV again.
FOX News only listens to their advertisers: that's the soft spot for all media companies.

There are many good magazine / newspaper articles about this campaign. I am deeply interested in reading a book about the indepth nitty-gritty org / staffing / tech usage details.
Why? This book would give an insight into how other org's could, and should, be created or revitalized. I'd like to see something of a new NAACP for issues affecting young girls and women of color.

If Obama loses, I hold her responsible. Already the RNC is using her arguments against Obama as their talking points. She has work to do.
A [white and very old] woman for President? It doesn't excite me, maybe because I know the media and the "feminists" don't include black women in that equation. A black female President might get my interest and sense of excitement.
I'll get celebratory about Obama's candidacy if he wins the election, not a moment before.

What does she have left? Debt and the bitter folks like Harriet Christian.
The McCain / GOP and Obama have been ignoring her for the last few months.
The media is going to speculate whether Billary is going to be Obama's VP.
Billary loves media attention (via Press Releases) so don't expect silence from them. They will continue to work to undermine Obama. It's their M.O.
Already hearing that she will be "viable" in 4 years if Obama loses.
They never fail to be disagreeable.

No matter who becomes President, this person has to be ruthless. It is a necessary component. Frankly, I was worried that Obama wasn't going to be steely enough.
He's going to disappoint more people in the future when, not if, he moves to the "center." That's fine with me.
---
I'm not a Dem or Repub. I honestly believe there should be (mostly black) left leaning and/or conservative alternatives to influence the "main" parties. I feel "we" bargain away our power too easily: behaving like it does not exist. It does. Billary got a taste of it this year.
----
Whether our troops leave Iraq fast or slow they'll be honored.

The DNC got into this delegate mess, because Billary's people were trying to "fix" the schedule to help her.
Although irritating at times, this Dem race has been very entertaining. Billary got outmaneuvered with the world watching. Excellent.

McCain is going to be able to say, and do a lot of things that are "off the wall." Aside from Obama calling him on it, McCain will get a pass from the media (and anyone else with reach). That should be fun.
I am interested in the GE, and how the campaigns will be fought. There's a lot of organizing going on, but will these bodies show up come voting time? Folks may slack off if they assume an easy win for Obama.
As for Billary, they will continue to be negative, backstabbing, and sabotaging throughout the GE. They can't help themselves.

IMO Feminist movement plus Civil Rights achieved their main and necessary goals 20+ years ago. At present, both groups don't know of a purposely useful next agenda. These groups have devolved into who's-the-most-victimized competitions. I ignore both.
___
After this nomination battle, I bet DNC will change superdelegate rules and primary schedule. Will they establish a shorter per region primary voting cycle?
A shorter cycle assists a more established, or well-known candidate. A long cycle sometimes helps a challenger. A long cycle also shakes out weaknesses that could cripple a candidate during the GE.

There was a strong evangelical push for Bush in the last election. I doubt, although I'm not certain, if the turnout for McCain will be the same. Plus Bush got himself enough of a percentage of the black vote to get him over.

After reading Peggy N. and Frank R. I have to admit I'm surprised they "got it." Paraphrasing a quote from previous comments, either the other media political players are mendacious or stupid. I think both.
My take on the Appalachian voter (having met my share of these folks in the past): they don't "know" Obama. They stick with familiarity. They aren't going to pay as much attention, or be as informed as the average voter. And most people (probably) vote at the last moment for a candidate based on impressions.
I wouldn't expect them to vote for him. They know and identify with the "old" Billary. I actually believe Obama could reach them via religion (Christian push), but I doubt he has enough time to do it.
Frankly, any votes from them over 25%-30% for Obama would be interesting.

The issue with Rev. Wright may be a distraction: long or short term. If he wants to have a forum, be it a book, radio or TV program, so be it. The more he speaks - he becomes an individual separate from Obama.
The MSM is deliberately conflating the two men. Then again the MSM believes black people in America (or worldwide) are fiendish co-conspirators and a monolith.
Hah. If only....
Link here: Dukasis offers Obama advice on how to win the GE. He expects him to get the Dem. nom.
At this point that is all that matters: close out the Dem. nom. and onto the GE.

Saw the final tally, not bad: north of 9%. Obama aimed for 10%.
These guys know what they are doing. I wouldn't be surprised at the demographic / voting analysis going on with them.
The GE should be interesting. Using my poor math skills for the GE: I took out Billary's angry 20%. Obama was left with a hefty margin over total Republican votes. (I know all of them didn't come out.)
Independents are a wild card. Yet, split their tally 50%-50% per candidate in the GE, and Obama carries the PA state.
This has been the pattern over a number of states he won early on. Dem. turnout has been incredible.
When the election coverage gets to you: watch something entertaining, read a good book, get a good night's sleep. Stress kills. Don't worry about things you cannot control. The media works on negative hype. They love this race, it's making them big bucks....

WSJ has an interesting article on Obama.
--
Billary has gone from inevitable to kitchen sink desperado. She was supposed to win this easily, even the Repubs were counting on it. She's the one with name recognition, and formerly 20+ point lead. Her kitchen sink tactics only increase her negatives.
I do believe she will take her fight to the convention. I believe she will support (or is supporting) McCain: that's the message to her supporters.
She's a bitter one. I can't see Billary supporting Obama in the GE.
