in Watch Hulu (and others) from outside the US on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Just browsing to hear what happened to Ross, and stumbled across this post... Hotspot shield is a great work around for hulu, but after months of using it for 30 Rock and The Office i've noticed one trick, never close the hotspot shield banner ads - your connection slows right down. this is not really that big a deal since you dont see the ads if you watch hulu in full screen.
Actually, when i first started using hulu months ago, hulu's own ad server would see i was using some kind of anonymous vpn thing, and i guess targeted generic geek ads to me from cisco and the like. today it always shows the stupid blank screen that tells me to disable an ad-blocker (i dont use an ad blocker!) whats annoying about this is the 'disable your ad blocker screen' is a full 30 seconds longs, the ads used to be much shorter. lé sigh.

also, sorry, mentioned this on my very sub-par podcast, but the prequel to underbelly needs to be the kath pettingil, victor peirce story.
it would be fantastic, the real life phoenix/janus.

David Rayne is truly awful.
Possibly cos he's the poor man's poorer man's Kochie, and Kochie aint that good.
I really fucking hate that show he's on, and i feel sorry for the unemployed/students/and domestic workers that watch him.
One of the reasons i havent quit my job is cos i cant handle mid morning tv.

hey,
for divx / avi players, always go for the no name brands from china.
aldi sell a dvd player every few weeks that does divx/avi for $35, including a front usb port. i bought one for every non-geek in my life last xmas so i didnt have to convert shows for them anymore.

ahem.
an mp3 with embedded graphics is still an mp3. mp3's are able to contain metadata like album art, lyrics, shownotes, artist, track number etc. download the latest fulltimecasual, kermit the frog is the embedded album art.
yes i did read that itunes worked fine for you. awesome. it didnt for me.
as for itunes trying to push safari onto you, well thats an act of pure bastardry from apple.

ignoring brett.. ahem.
for the album art its probably simple, iTunes shows your spiffy new art for the feed, but each episode needs to have the album art embedded into the mp3 as well for it to show up on your device.
its an annoying step i often forget to do myself.
as for the feed, i'm sure if i waited everything would be fine.. itunes only pings the server every 24hrs for new episodes, unless you force ping it. Podpress for wordpress will force ping itunes as soon as an episode is published. do you guys use it?
anyhoo, thats way to geeky. feel proud i care this much. :)

so torrents are good for publicity (i agree with you there) but then, 'Channel 9 is a different case, because they will eventually show Underbelly in Victoria and every person that downloads is one less viewer?'
i dont get it, are you saying torrenting is only healthy for a show when done in a secondary market?

i've now seen up to episode *cough* [mr. black] and i've got to say, its very strange that they chose Carl Williams to be the main character..
they give him alot more credit than he deserves, atleast, according to the books...

hey, i lived in sydney when blue murder was first aired, and although it took about 2 months later, i eventually had a vhs tape showed up..
btw, the other day i was watching that bizarre "free to air" for the first time in ages when i heard, "From Camden, James Talia..."
I was shocked, James, you're so young! You sound so world weary on the podcast.. I assumed you were friends with Rob's father, and that how he knew you... wow.

hey, great ep..
dunno where else to put this but here will do:
1) icetv has been updated (but private beta style) and has all the functionality of tivo now..
2) tivo is doing beta testing itself and "you may or may not get to keep the pvr after the trial period"
3) josh's favourite jeopardy contestant was on this american life this week..
that is all .
pete.

Good to have you back boys!
*30 rock, diet arrested development. but still incredibly enjoyable.
*Peep Show.. yeah, the POV annoys me too, but there are still some killer lines.. perfect hangover television.
and on behalf of all the geeks who listen, when are you gonna review Battlestar Galactica in full?
pete.
(btw, you should really get back into twitter mr cropley, boxcutters has quite the following there. sad, lonely geeks watch a lot of telly. who knew? )

also: product placement.
you've got to revisit sylvester stallones cobra.
opening scene, cobra hides behind a pepsi standee during a shoot out.
then he gets home, needs some time alone, so he goes onto his roof, and takes some quiet time infront of a pepsi billboard.
then there's the hospital shootout. watch cobra run from pepsi vending machine to pepsi vending machine for cover...
but the best moment, the final scene after you think the bad guy has been killed. cobra's mate pops into a convenience store and buys a can of coke. cobra says "why do you drink that, its bad for you?" before his mate can answer, he is shot to death by the bad guy..
so incredibly subtle it hurts..

just finished listening to the latest this american life, the second story is about newsrooms fighting for an exclusive, and the decisions they make to get it. beautifully done. i'd love to hear the reaction from someone who works in a news room, but where would i find someone like that?

brett,
ubuntu is great, os x is great, xp is tolerable, vista is the os equivalent of Sunrise.
its ok. we can live together. but i believe you were trying to paraphrase Roy and HG but messed it up.
its "you're an embarrassment to yourself and a burden on the rest of us."
remember, us mac kids make up only 4% of the market, thats why we have to defend our platform so much. You windows kids are the privileged white guys of the market. you just dont understand the prejudice we face, and you never will.
