Wow, what a post Doug! I really like your attitude.
You know, there's a great overlap between Christianity and Islam when it comes to family and social values. A lot of what you said you believe in exemplify many of Islam's teachings. It's funny that sometimes non-Mulsims like you do a better job of demonstrating Islamic values than some Muslims themeselves.
So for this, I salute you! Keep up the positive attitude. You're a great blogger, and you sure as hell sound like a hell of a dad.

Ha! I have to tell you, AL... it is amazing how much we personalize our lives around our laptops when it's our business! I luckily have almost everything backed up to the net in one way or another - but nothing seems to be convenient.

in How To Improve Productivity on How To Split An Atom
I just followed your link and tried News Hutch. I must say it's pretty neat and simple feed reader. However, I've said far too many times, what I like about Google Reader is the news river which I've yet to see any other RSS reader properly implement. I don't want to think which feed I'd like to read. I just want to read!

Thank you thank you thank you!
Finally! Yes, sys-con is the most annoying website I've ever had to wade through. Did you see the big *** footer on that one? And the site doesn't even render correctly in Firefox.

in 5 Bizarre Tips to Double Your Productivity on The Marketing Technology Blog
Wow, you nailed it with that meeting thing. Where I work, if you decline a meeting, it's considered rude, much like cursing!
You go to the meeting, 5 minutes into it, personal life stories come up and it turns into a bonding thing. That irritates the living hell out of me! A 10 minute meeting often extends to one hour because of that!
I gotta start declining meeting that either have no stated purpose or agenda, or ones I'm not really needed in. That of course, unless the request comes from my boss :)

in WordPress NiceAdmin Plugin Version 1.0.0 Released on The Marketing Technology Blog
Good work Doug. Should we call it Extreme Wordpress Makeover :)
Douglas Karr
Extreme needs to happen next, AL! This changes the look and feel - but the day should be near that Admin can have skins and themes without the need for a plugin!
Perhaps the admin theme should be an admin.css in the themes directory so that users can package them together!

in This deserves a blog post… Thanks, Kathy! on The Marketing Technology Blog
Couldn't agree more. Kathy's blog was one of the very first I subscribed to, and it has proven to be a gem ever since. I remember reading no less than a dozen articles and going "wow" right after that. It's one of those blogs that never cease to amaze you with the depth and understanding of business-customer relations and software usability.
Truth be told, I'm really seriously pissed at whoever did this and caused this to come to an end. I guess all we can do now is dig up the old stuff and learn, kinda like what you did here.

I'd be really interested in the WordPress plugin you mentioned. It'd odd that everything about WP rocks except it's posting interface! My problems with it is that it's too cluttered, and you can't eliminated the clutter and focus on the your writing.

in Learning to Ride Bikes and Building Software on The Marketing Technology Blog
Fabulous post! Especially loved the analogy.
I think what product managers have difficulty in nowadays is precisely defining when is the right time for extra the "bike" features and how to plug 'em in the already existing features that their users have grown accustomed to.

in The Blogging Triangle: 3 Elements of Success on The Marketing Technology Blog
So a blogger's aim is strike a balance point right in the middle of the triangle, I assume that's why you've drawn those elements in a triangle right?

Douglas Karr
Hi Al,
Yes that really is it... focusing on the three areas is what pushes success on your blog. One of the key elements I'm trying to get through to folks is that writing a blog is not 2-dimensional. Getting the content and the passion isn't enough - there's a timeline that follows that you'll need to build momentum on.
Thanks for this feedback (to everyone). Your perspective is helping!

You can enter code in a comment with
tags around your code. I'll try out Wikitravel and see! It could be that they are not honoring the redirect. It's good that it came back to your site, but it should redirect to your OpenID page.

I just got around to do a similar thing. I installed fine and everything. I put those two lines in my WordPress header:
Tested the login worked fine.
Tried WikiTravel, entered my configured OpenID user name (alhome.net) it redirected me then to my own site as if nothing happened.
Am I missing something?

Had me laughing and really entertained..
And I instantly connected to the one with the "I Guess That’s It". Last time I used it, it took 'em about 5 seconds to realize it it was really "it" and clap a little as I dragged myself off stage.
Now I know better, and I'm going to take all those points in consideration in my upcoming speech.
Thanks alot!

Too funny. I actually have a Jack Russell who will not allow any other live animal in our home. His first victim was our bird, Ozzy. His next victim was a Gerbil my son bought for my daughter. He's a hunter... patient and psychotic. We still love him, though.

Two of my all-time favorites! The kinds of blogs that you can't help but read each and every interesting post they have.

It's funny you say that. I have read the Qur'an and have some friends that are Islamic. Every time we get together we find so much in common between our religions. Thanks for your compliments as well - I don't think I'm as a good a parent as I could be, but I am trying!
