in The golden age of television on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
I'm glad the people have spoken for me and managed to get West Wing included, but I'm also gunning for Sex and the City. I know when I accidentally stumbled across an episode late one night not long after moving to another country (completely unaware of its existence), I'd never seen anything like it before. And not just for the obvious reasons that have probably been mentioned, but also because I felt as though I was seeing real female friendship portrayed on the small screen for the first time. We didn't have their money and careers or wear their clothes (or have such interesting love lives) but they spoke just like we did. About the things we did. In detail. And it was smart and funny. It's probably not a reason for GAT inclusion, but it was a big deal for the women I knew seeing their secret lives portrayed on TV in an intelligent way. I'm guessing blokes probably take this stuff for granted because the stories have always been about them.

I know nothing about Family Guy, but I admit, as bizarre as it sounds, that I share Brett's fascination with Janeane Garofolo's West Wing eyebrows.

The ads during Heroes are driving me bonkers, so I agree with catbrain about them spoiling the flow. There are a lot of storylines and characters to follow in each ep and when it keeps getting broken up by ads (it feels like every 5 mins) I feel a little disconnected (oh, hello! back from the ad - where are we now? which hero is this?). I'm enjoying it less and less because of that. I feel as though it just gets into a rhythm and it's over for another week and my brain is all disjointed.
Or maybe there's a problem with my brain.

Ratings yes. Even though I find it completely bewildering, it's good to know what people are supposedly watching and how it affects the industy, the networks and the decisions they make. Maybe we should get a new chicken, though.
PS. That'll teach me to email my deepest, darkest secrets and dreams to the Boxcutters... Don't read out the one about the pushbike and the trapeze artist and the camembert.

Leave Josh alone, Nameless Guy. He can hate whatever he likes. He's buying the drinks. Or am I buying him drinks? I can't remember; I'm too drunk.

What? Melbourne's having a beer-drinking contest? Sounds like great TV.

in Anti toddler-hoon legislation claims its first scalp on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
I agree: ridiculous. Has there been a rash of toddlers driving cars and surfing recently? Kids watch all kinds of fanciful/fantasy stuff on TV. If some TV character flies, hordes of small children aren't going to suddenly jump off the garage roof - particularly if they have no way of getting up there in the first place.

Let's all get drunk and beat each other up! I'm pretty sure I fight like a girl, so you'd probably win. I'll let you call me stupid as long as you keep filling my glass.

I'm one of those terrible people who loved Donnie Darko. Hate me Josh - I dare you. Go on.

Wasn't Jamie Redfern the one who got whisked away to the US by Liberace in the 70s? He was a big deal at the time.

in Boxcutters Special Episode Alpha on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Ross is my friend because I really enjoyed the Special Episode Alpha and got a lot of laughs out of its shambolickness. But I'm a bit frustrated that most of your best shows are things I haven't seen because I'm not able to download and they haven't screened on free-to-air. Am I the last of a dying breed, with no cable and ancient dial-up technology? It's hard for us fossils to keep up :-(
As with last year, my best TV moments were generally courtesy of the video store. Although a recent free-to-air highlight was seeing series 6 of The West Wing on the ABC, right where I finished up on DVD - two eps a week, back to back with no ads. Gotta love that.

Yesterday I heard the theme from Kimba the White Lion for the first time since I was a kid! ("Who lives down in deepest, darkest Africa"..."Africa") Was doing some research for Focus on Tezuka, which is on at ACMI. It made my day! (and perhaps shows my age).

I saw the ad for the comic relief thing last night, and I want to change my mind and say NO after I saw who was going to be on it.

in YES or NO? Week 2 on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
1) Movie: Wimbledon [8:30pm Fri, 10] - NO. Haven't we seen this film two, three or four times already in different guises?
2) Iron Chef America [8:30pm Sat, SBS] - YES. Iron Chef fan. Want to see what the yanks have done with it. Man alive... let's get it on!
3) The Idol final [7:30pm Sun, 10] - NO. Yawn, etc. 90 minutes of filler.
4) The Comic Relief thing [7:30pm Mon, 7] - MAYBE ... It might be one of those flick in and flick out things, depending on who's trying to be funny at the time. Mythbusters has ads now.
5) The StarDancers final [7:30pm Tue, 7] - NO. I am a StarDancer's virgin and refuse to lose my cherry now.
6) The 2006 Glass House Awards For Eksalince [9pm Wed, ABC] - YES. Would be a shame to miss the last one ever.
7) Look Who’s Talking [not the movie; 8:30pm Thu, 9] - NO. Just seeing Ray Martin's name put me off. And I don't have a baby to practise on.

Live on the airwaves! And I haven't even listened to the podcast yet - that's how excited I am. Ok, maybe I should listen to the podcast before I get too excited, though. There could be a catch.
