(-:

As I mentioned in my video post - you have hit the nail on the head. To clarify, Seesmic is currently still in closed alpha. This means that to "come play" you need an invite code, which you can either get by signing up on the site or by emailing someone at Seesmic (like cathy[at]seesmic[dot]com, for example ). The reason for this is several fold - mostly to make sure we're handling scaling issues properly and also to ensure that we have built solid technology protections in place for things like copyright, privacy etc...

Once we kick open the doors to the world what you'll find is that rather than trying to be THE destination site, Seesmic is on track to be A destination site. Our goal - to serve as the engine powering the world's online video conversations.

So yes, we'll enable you to share your Seesmic content to many other places and allow others - whether registered on Seesmic or not - to participate in those conversations.

For the more detailed response here's the post: http://seesmic.com/v/2myOkMBQvJ

Let's keep this conversation going - feel free to email or post Seesmics with other thoughts and ideas ... and of course to all of your readers, feel free to contact me directly if you wish to come test things out for yourself!

Re: Out Riding Fences: Clash of the Storytellers.

Ah ... I would argue that writers should be the most adept social media beasts of all ... I'm not including folks like poets or novelists necessarily in this because they, by the nature of their work, do operate in a more solitary mode. However, most all other types of writing is done with the intent, if not effect, of communicating and connecting with others - and that is precisely where social media comes in.

My biggest beef with many of those mucking around in social media is that their writing skills are ... well ... nonexistent and as a result we have a messy pile of inarticulate (alleged) prose attempting to squawk out of the digital realm. The fact that short form things like Twitter are forcing people into ridiculous abbreviations and lousy grammar only serves to exacerbate the situation.

I, for one, am glad that folks like you are there straddling the worlds ...

That's my .02 ...

Re: This is the first post

Seesmic video reply from Disqus.

Re: This is the first post

Seesmic video reply from Disqus.

Re: Lunch at Seesmic

Stephanie you are welcome in our offices any time ... especially if you whack Loic and/or Vinvin with cutlery.

(-:

Re: Quote of the Day

Respectfully disagree {seesmic_video:{"url_thumbnail":{"value":"http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/BZlYfiuWCY_th1.jpg"}"title":{"value":"Respectfully disagree "}"videoUri":{"value":"http://www.seesmic.com/video/9KnCvhExHa"}}}

Re: Paulo Coelho answers / celebration in Aviles

What was the biggest surprise? {seesmic_video:{"url_thumbnail":{"value":"http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/XwqE9PTC1O_th1.jpg"}"title":{"value":"What was the biggest surprise? "}"videoUri":{"value":"http://www.seesmic.com/video/sZqd62bq4m"}}}

Re: Question of the Week

{seesmic_video:{"url_thumbnail":{"value":"http://t.seesmic.com/thumbnail/RpvfpwHS14_th1.jpg"}"title":{"value":" "}"videoUri":{"value":"http://www.seesmic.com/video/NRISnOVHUj"}}}

Re: Etiquette in the Age of Social Media

Superb post, Chris. Bravo. The truth of the matter is that, as my grandmother sometimes would say, is that most folks don't have the good sense that god gave a goat. And the challenge that has arisen in the digital realm is that what little social etiquette some folks had, seems to have evaporated.

Not sure why people feel that life in the land of ones and zeros is somehow immune from basic considerate behavior, but I'd say that following your advice could go a long way towards at least nudging people in the right direction.

Now if only people would get some manners too.

Well, guess we can't expect *too* much.
