in Why Bookstores Are My Office on Chris Brogan
I have to agree with you there. If I had a car, I'd be at my local Barnes & Nobles a lot more often. I have to admit I love working in that type of atmosphere. It just feels so much more productive, plus you meet people from all walks of life.

I'll have to remember your tip about using the books there for new ideas. Never really thought to do that, but it makes perfect sense. Why not put their products to use if you're going to use the space.

in Creators Take Note on Chris Brogan
Well the clip is definitely interesting. That was a powerful and insightful speech. I wonder if Netflix or Hulu has it.

To answer your question though, I don't think Youtube is bad for TV and filmmakers at all. If they hop on board the train maybe they could make some extra cash. I just posted yesterday on SheGeeks Why the Entertainment Industry might want to start paying more attention to Twitter. The same goes for Youtube, Imeem, Brightkite and other location awareness services.

Social media is perfect for TV and filmmakers. Why? Because this is just another way to virally market yourself. 18 year old rap phenom, Soulja Boy, used Youtube, Myspace and other soc nets to virally market himself and his music. Now he's a platinum selling, Grammy nominated artist, with over 400 million Youtube views, over 12 million views to his channel, and over 100k subscribers. I'm pretty sure it's helping his sells quite a bit. TV and Filmmakers could benefit in the same way, especially TV!

A lot of rappers are starting to get on Youtube and Myspace for more promotion and marketing. It's damn near free marketing for goodness sake and not that hard to accomplish if you're good at what you do. Soulja boy has already moved on to Twitter. :)

in Social Media Is Not a Life Raft on Chris Brogan
Small companies may not need to try social media services such as Twitter or Friendfeed, at least if they want to stay small. It's good for brand management, but it's not necessary especially if your brand isn't very popular.

Also, if the community of a company isn't using social media to find out more about that particular company, then the company doesn't need it either. This only applies if the company isn't trying to expand (once again). Social media could be an untapped market for more customers for some companies. It could be more drama for others.

in If You Haven't Moved to WordPress 2.7 Yet on Chris Brogan
So far I'm loving WP 2.7's dashboard. It's much better than the previous version. It takes a little getting used to but after a week of playing with everything I love it.

in Is text really king over video? Compare the results on Scobleizer
Great points Scoble. I wholeheartedly agree. It's a nice debate, but I still have to say that text is king over video....unless you're writing an essay, then video might be better. However, not many of us are out here writing essays. :)

Rahsheen, thanks for the nod in my direction. You made a great list of people that will definitely reach out at any given time if they're on the web. Thanks for the extra links Lynne!

in If I Owned BrightKite on Chris Brogan
Well said Chris! I agree that the Brightkite iPhone app has made Brightkite seem a lot more useful to me. I've even started to use the service a lot more myself. It's really ashame that so much potential shines through the iPhone app rather than the website itself. I think the website is quite the opposite for me, a little too plain for my tastes and just doesn't offer me much compared to the iPhone app.

Bridging gaps with other services would be great. I would love to see Yelp or a similar service integrated into Brightkite! It's already building bridges with Maps on the iPhone, but it would be great to see this taken elsewhere.

I can't wait to see where Brightkite takes things. It's definitely a service to look out for.

in Decreasing Connections While Increasing Our Networks on Chris Brogan
Thank you all for your informative and well thought responses. I'm glad Chris gave me the opportunity to engage with you all.

@"Reechard" - Once you go on a self-imposed exile on Twitter, you don't come back the same. I completely understand where you're coming from and it is a bit heartbreaking and frustrating to spend so much time and energy on a service, and then suddenly have all these problems with it.

@Tracy Lee - Maybe the depersonalization of it all is the real problem.

With all the limits that everyone is imposing, doesn't that just further the depersonalization process? Doesn't it get frustrating after a while. I know I've gotten to a point where sometimes I'll add people just because I don't feel like checking to see if they meet my "limits/requirements". Has anyone else found themselves doing this?

in Alltop Launches Version Two on Chris Brogan
Thanks for the update on this Chris. Might not have known about it otherwise. I find the homepage design to be much easier to navigate now. I'm also loving the hide buttons for the various sources. Alltop feels more like a dashboard now with this new redesign. I feel like it could replace Google Reader or be used in conjunction with my feed reader now.

in Technorati Doesnt Count Microblogs on Chris Brogan
That'll put an awfully heavy load on Technorati. Sometimes links get retweeted by spam accounts and I don't think Technorati wants to bother with implementing a filter for Twitter spam accounts. It's already a hassle for Twitter alone.

In essence, I guess I'm saying that it doesn't bother me very much that Technorati doesn't count such links. There's too much behind it all and it can get rather confusing trying to keep up with these services.

in http://www.andydesoto.com/commentary/what-the-iphone-application-store-tells-us-about-twitter/ on Andy DeSoto
Great post Andy! Just linked to it in my latest post.

I'm currently using Hahlo on my iPhone. I have Twittelator on it also. However, Hahlo is what I mainly use. I only use Twittelator for posting images to Twitter since Hahlo can't do that. Otherwise, like you stated, the Twitter apps suck and I really have no clue on how they could make them better.

Thanks for putting me on the list. :D

I'm also apart of ReadWriteWeb and the Grand Effect Network. Sarah Perez is also part of the Grand Effect Network.

Tamar Weinberg of techipedia, Amanda Gravel of Social Honeycomb, and Chrissie Brodigan should be on the list too. They rock!

It's Corvida, not Cordiva.

Twellow looks cool though. Nice to see apps making good use of Summize too. The evolution of Twitter apps...interesting.

But you're right about the uptime. These apps are nothing unless Twitter is working.

in On moving from the Social media capital of Europe to Geneva on Richard's Blog
I can definitely sympathize. Even though I'm in the US, the city that I stay in is pretty non-technological, let alone social.

Getting people to use social networks is a tough thing. Even though they have their benefits, it's not for everyone and everyone isn't particularly fascinated with the web in the same way that we are unfortunately.

in How late adopters get into social media on Scobleizer
You're not making any sense to me Scoble. Sure they'll end up on blogs and Twitter, but I don't see them jumping into Social Media just because they landed on these sites. I see them immediately clicking the [X] box if they have absolutely no clue about them and/or if doesn't pertain to the information that they're really looking for.

in 2008/04/30/are-you-frustrated-with-firefox/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I think it's funny how no one really recommended another browser instead.

I'd just recommend a switch to Opera or Safari. I have Opera installed as a backup browser for FF2's bad days. It works like a charm, but unfortunately you will miss out on Foxmarks.
