in J-school student told not to blog about class on Mathew's comments
Why would the teacher take the time to ask a student not to blog or Twitter *during* class. Sounds like a pile of crap / backpeddling to me.

Any J-school prof should realize that taking notes, blogging, or wiring your network, etc is a valuable skill that will be required of everyone once they graduate.

Have you written anything about Concordia University's banning of the Facebook domain?

Mathew - Loving the blog. I didn't even know you had it. Always enjoyed reading your stuff in the Globe, so it's nice to find this.

in Radiohead: People still want an “object” on Mathew's comments
I've had it with CDs. And DVDs for that matter.

What's the point?

This also speaks to what kind of people we are. Some people just like accumulating "stuff" and I'm guilty of that on occasion.

Generally, I have no mental or physical space for clutter in my life any more.

in “If the news is important, it will find me” on Mathew's comments
In order for this to be true, people have to be immersed in networked (new) media.

We should be careful with the assumption that "young people" are immersed in new media and "old geezers" aren't.

I teach citizen journalism at a local university and I'd say less than 10% of them use these things regularly.

Blogs and microblogs are not a generational phenomenon - I think rather that they appeal to a certain personality type.

mathewi You might be right, Matt -- but I think the principle extends to text
messaging, IM and Facebook. And at least judging by my own research
using my teenaged daughters, that is how they get a lot of their news.
